Scientists find shocking amount of toxic chemicals in fast food
Phthalates are a chemical widely used in all kinds of plastic packaging and now have been linked to many popular fast food items.
By Shirin Ali | Oct. 28, 2021
Story at a glance:
Researchers tested popular fast food items like hamburgers, pizza and burritos for traces of phthalates.
High levels of phthalates have been linked to fertility issues, asthma and cognitive development problems in children.
So far, the federal government has not banned the use of phthalates in food packaging.
The next time you decide to order fast food instead of making dinner at home, you might want to reconsider. A new study shows many popular fast food items carry toxic plastics that are known to cause a host of health problems.

Weekly I'll get takeout from my favorite Tex-Mex Restaurant down the street but ever so rarely I'll go to Whataburger.
-
Not that often, and even less nowadays with the prices getting so stupid high.

There was a time I ate fast food five and sometimes six days a week, but then I ran Mickey D's for 22 years and there was no going out and to where, another fast food operation? Still if it caused any cognitive issues how would I know, people have been calling me crazy(among other things) for decades. Now I just don't have the desire to buy fast food none of the burger chains food tastes the way it used to, okay BK was always bad and the exceptions are In-N-Out and small mom and pop. But then I can't say I have really enjoyed the food at a actual restaurant in a long time either.

I don't do fast food. I do go out for a late breakfast daily to one of three favorite places
I do go out for dinner about two or three times a month. I like Alexanders, Pat & Dandy's,
Mancy's, Beirut and my mothers favorite Eddie Lee's. Alexanders is national with the rest
being locals. Toledo has many restaurants. My cousins, some 23 of us used to meet once
a month for dinner and a younger brother drove in frequently from Cleveland. The medical
hassle put a ten year practice on hold.
Haven't been to fast food for a decade.

I use to live near a Sonic and I’d eat there maybe twice a week.
Now I live nowhere near fast food so I hardly eat it.
I am near several Starbucks, and Dunkin Donuts, and I’ve been known to splurge once or twice a year on a fancy schmancy coffee. Or I just get a plain cup of Joe with milk.

Every now and again I will pick up a Jimmy Johns Sub (Don't know if that counts as fast food)
Other than that, I will Hit an Arby's, because they gots the meats.
-
I prefer the taste of food I cook myself, Mrs. Liberty's even better.
-
I have lots of boys. We order pizza maybe twice in a three week period.

Sometimes couple times a week, sometimes go months on end without going. Right now, painful GOUT (right hand).... so presently in one of those drought times.
-
After I get my labs done...I head directly to Whataburger and get a sausage Breakfast On a Bun. So that's twice a year.
About once a year I get a Big Mac Meal.
Once in a blue moon I'll go to Jack In The Box for 2/$1 tacos.
Considering I am a junk food-aholic and have been all of my life...I'm pretty pleased with myself. Because other than that, I cook at home.
-
We eat JJ subs, and our local Publix subs, a few times a week. About once a month we order from Wendy's. Maybe a pizza every other month or so.
I only have to cook most of the time for just the two of us, so we microwave leftovers a lot.
I'm so looking forward to cooking Turkey Day dinner! Lots of turkey leftovers!!

@Wingnut
Nah, if he did, it'd be "Traitor Joes"!

True! :patriot:

My daily 'fast food' ritual is the second-to-none, Chick-fil-A's breakfast "Chicken Scramble" Bowl for $4.31...which I top off with the obligatory packet of salsa and two squeeze packs of honey.
Depending on how hungry I am, I'll order TWO...which I invariably end up taking back home and eating for an afternoon snack.
And IMHO, it's not "fast food" when it takes you about 20 freaking minutes to get thru the drive-thru.

Ditto.
-
Once in a while, I do.
As for the article... I'm skeptical. I see no evidence of proper control or even comparison to anything. This is a slipshod study and proves almost nothing.

I was exposed to Sonic fare back East, on a visit. Maybe it was just a different menu, but I found it to be better than most of the others. Now, it's just either a local restaurant or the usual drive through fare, and for the price (about $10/head) I can buy a steak and grill it.

Only when I'm on the road and there aren't other choices, or when Arby's gives me coupons. Their stuff is pretty good for fast food, but not worth the list price.
