A member of the U.S. men’s figure skating team got his leotard in a twist because Vice President Mike Pence is scheduled to lead the U.S. Olympic delegation to South Korea in February.
Adam Rippon, the 2016 U.S. men’s figure skating, pitched a particularly nasty hissy fit — telling USA Today he would prefer not to shake the vice president’s hand before the opening ceremony.
Mr. Rippon is believed to be the first openly gay Winter Olympian — and he took great umbrage at the vice president’s devout Christian faith.

I think that was Greg Louganis, who was HIV positive at the time, and got some blood in the pool when he hit his head on the diving board.

So true. But as a huge fan of figure skating and having attended several events when they've come to town, he truly is a great skater ... I've seen Boitano skate as well and both are excellent (yes, with Rudy it's blatantly more obvious), ya have to look past the 'queer' factor. However, the gays that now feel that they can make demands just because they're gay and on that I call b.s.!!

Very true, because so much was unknown. I was working in a hospital lab as a phlebotomist at the time. HIV+ patients were in private rooms with strict isolation precautions and procedures. Any supplies you needed were in a cart outside the room. You gowned and gloved up before you went in and disposed of everything in the biohazard container before you left.
The dark joke among the staff at the time was they were on a restricted diet of pancakes and waffles, because that's the only thing you could slide under the door.

I've seen him several times (yeppers seats on the rink) - he's such a treat to watch. One of the greatest skaters in history. One of my faves - his farewell. He's unfortunately diagnosed with yet another brain tumor.

Chances are he didn't know or even care. He was probably casting a line in the water and trolling for endorsement contracts if he wins gold or silver. People that set new records or win Gold get contracts thrown at them,but silver winners who also happen to be "out" homosexuals,not so much.
