FISA report: DOJ watchdog shares findings on Russia probe surveillance
By Ronn Blitzer, Brooke Singman | Fox News

The Justice Department’s inspector general on Monday released to lawmakers the long-awaited internal review concerning the origins of the Russia investigation.

According to a source, the report concluded that investigators found no intentional misconduct surrounding efforts to seek a highly controversial Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant to monitor former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page in the early months of the Russia investigation -- but also faulted the FBI over numerous inaccuracies in the application process.

The IG probe identified at least 17 errors in the Page applications.

IG Michael Horowitz and his investigators probed how the unverified anti-Trump dossier compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele was used to secure the original FISA warrant for Page in October 2016, as well as other decisions at the outset of the FBI’s counterintelligence investigation of Russian election interference and the Trump campaign.

The release comes as Washington has been consumed with the impeachment inquiry into President Trump. The House Judiciary Committee was holding the inquiry’s latest hearing Monday, days after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Democrats are moving forward with plans to bring articles of impeachment against the president over his dealings with Ukraine.

But the FISA report is sure to become a political football of its own, alongside the impeachment probe.

BREAKING:

Solomon can now confirm IG report says FBI misled FISA Court.

Now DOJ can take action with FISA court!

I expect Barr to do something drastic to get everyone's attention after official release.  Bank on it.

AG Bill Barr says that the DOJ IG report "now makes clear that the FBI launched an intrusive investigation of a U.S. presidential campaign on the thinnest of suspicions that, in my view, were insufficient to justify the steps taken."

This will be the only part the Democrat Press will report.  Nothing else to see here, folks.

Many many FBI sins of omission detailed in IG FISA report. The FBI slanted the information presented to the Court to get the outcome it desired.

The DOJ IG determined that the Steele dossier is what provided "probable cause" for the government to spy on Carter Page, and that the FISA application "drew heavily...upon the Steele reporting to support the government's position that Page" was a Russian agent.

IG says officials all agreed that they should launch massive counterintel probe on basis of that one uncorroborated tip and not tell campaign (which included US Sen. and future AG Jeff Sessions and former NJ Gov. Chris Christie, notably) in case they were all in on it.

You won't see this in headlines, because it proves EXACTLY what we've been saying.

FBI used knowingly false and dubious information in a FISA as an excuse to surveil American citizens in the Trump campaign. And kept using the same bad info in renewals!

Stunning abuse of power.

Predictably, some media allies of Democrats spinning hard. This is what the investigation was about, pg 361:

IG found "numerous serious factual errors and omissions in the FISA applications ... that undercut certain allegations in the applications."

That, alone, is indefensible

I see James Comey has a victory lap op-ed out, making it clear he didn't read the report. Which is at least consistent with his management style of apparently not reading FISA applications.
