Visa and Mastercard Drop Plans to Track Gun Purchases

AWR Hawkins 9 Mar 2023

Visa and Mastercard have halted their plans to use a new merchant code to track gun purchases.

WAFB reported that Visa and Mastercard’s pivot is “a significant win for conservative groups and Second Amendment advocates who felt that tracking gun shop purchases would inadvertently discriminate against legal firearm purchases.”

West Virginia Treasurer Riley Moore reacted to the news by tweeting:

Sounds to me that they don't want the liability that could be involved.

On the sly, you can bet they are still putting gun buyers on a list... Cash is king.

Nothing about Discover, though.  They are also tracking sales from gun shops.

ETA:  The article mentions Discover card, and they are not going to stop tracing these sales!

No matter. I always pay cash for my guns.

Discover was actually first to stop, or actually decided not to implement.  (per Fox last night on Ingraham.)

If you buy a t-shirt from a gun store, that needs to be in cash too.  Same problem, no matter what item you buy there, because they are using a "merchant code."

It's the only thing Juan and Tyrone accept.

I have only been a couple of places which would not accept cash. I told them "that's a shame.", read them the little bit about "This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private." and left and took my business with me.
