Minnesota Rep. Angie Craig assaulted at D.C. apartment building

Feb. 9. 2023
Washington — Rep. Angie Craig, a Democrat from Minnesota, was assaulted in the elevator of her Washington, D.C., apartment building and suffered bruising, her office said.
The incident occurred around 7:15 a.m. on Thursday morning, Craig's chief of staff Nick Coe said in a statement. Craig "defended herself from the attacker and suffered bruising, but is otherwise physically okay."
The congresswoman called 911 and the assailant fled, Coe said.
"There is no evidence that the incident was politically motivated," he said. "Rep. Craig is grateful to the DC Metropolitan Police Department for their quick response and asks for privacy at this time." ... I don't get the "privacy" thing. Anyhow, as Rep. Scalise observes, D.C. is a hellhole.

In Washington, DC:
- Carjackings up 88%
- Sexual abuse up 157%
- Property crime up 31%
Yet the leftist city council voted to get rid of mandatory minimum sentences on violent crime.
Outrageous.
The House of Representatives just voted to overturn their weak new criminal code.

The House on Thursday passed a resolution seeking to overturn an overhaul of D.C.'s century-old criminal code that softens the punishment for homicide, robberies, and carjackings.
The resolution disapproving of the city’s criminal code overhaul passed in a 250-173 vote, with 31 Democrats joining Republicans. The measure now heads to the Senate, where it’s unlikely to pass the Democratic-controlled chamber. ...Washington Examiner (https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/house/house-votes-on-overturning-dc-criminal-code)

She's lucky to be alive.

I had no idea she was Minnesota's first openly gay member of Congress (as if that were an accomplishment). Mazel tov!
In any event, her assailant has been identified. D.C. Police say 26-year-old Kendrick Hamlin (AKA - Hamlin Khalil Hamlin) is charged with simple assault.

I hope there's a better photo. Yikes.
