DOJ signals to Jim Jordan that it won’t share information about pending investigations
by Jared Gans - 01/21/23 8:05 AM ET

The Justice Department (DOJ) signaled in a letter to House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) that it will not share information about ongoing investigations as the GOP vows to probe actions from the Biden administration.

“Consistent with longstanding policy and practice, any oversight requests must be weighed against the Department’s interests in protecting the integrity of its work,” Assistant Attorney General Carlos Uriarte said in the letter, obtained by Politico on Friday. “Longstanding Department policy prevents us from confirming or denying the existence of pending investigations in response to congressional requests or providing non-public information about our investigations.”

He said the DOJ has an obligation to “protect the government’s ability to prosecute fully and fairly,” which is essential to the executive branch’s function to investigate criminal matters. He said the department must protect witnesses and law enforcement and prevent those implicated in investigations from fleeing and additional crimes from occurring.

DOJ Agrees to Cooperate With House Judiciary Committee, Promptly Details All the Ways in Which They Actually Will Not
By Bob Hoge | 8:45 PM on January 20, 2023

The Department of Justice wrote a letter Friday to the House Judiciary Committee saying the department stands ready to cooperate in good faith with any congressional investigations. Immediately following that, they then said they will neither cooperate on—or even confirm or deny the existence of—any ongoing investigations. That takes pretty much all the interesting stuff off the table.

The DOJ’s letter is in response to the new chair of the committee, Republican Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio, who on January 17 had requested documents and testimony regarding:

immigration enforcement at the chaotic Southern border
efforts to monitor parents at school board meetings and label them domestic terrorists
    potential FISA abuse.

Jordan also asked for information on some active investigations, including information regarding the FBI’s summer 2022 classified document raid on former President Trump’s home, Mar-A-Lago.

This is the same DOJ that openly colluded with the Jan 6 committee on all things Trump.
