OPEN LIVE CONVENTION THREAD - THURSDAY, JULY 21
Last day and Cruz has stepped all over Donald's big day.
Let's roll.
It was and it's still unfolding. I'm video impaired, but apparently Ted is juiced in front of an audience this morning. Wish I could see it.
I wasn't a big Cruz fan, but he sure impressed me with his courage last night. The Trumpster orchestration of boos (and their blatant acknowledgement of such) proves how petty they are.
Everybody will be listening to Trump to see if he responds, but Cruz will be living in his head all day. Loving it.

Who is Chris Plante?
The louder they booed, the more I smiled.
Good morning everyone. So Ted gave a press conference or something this morning? :pondering:
Just to report some other views... the "We have to vote for Trump over Hillary" people on the local (Cental Texas) radio this morning are of the opinion that Ted Cruz destroyed his career last night, that he was selfish and petty, etc. etc.
I guess time will tell.

His surrogates are looking like mobster sidekicks -- lefty, shorty, and mugsy -- with their threats about Cruz's career being ruined over that fantastic speech.
They were so cute..... watching to see if the camera was on them. When it was, then booing louder!
The louder they booed, the more I smiled.
"There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." -Oscar WildeMelania Trump
LOL!! You guys are the best. I haven't had to do a thing except step back and enjoy............
Stop and think about the fact the GOP is threatened by Cruz telling Republicans to "vote their conscience." Let that one sink in for a moment. For the only reason that would be threatening is you're admitting that a vote for Trump is a violation of conscience. - Steve Deace
Who is Chris Plante?
Ted Cruz said he won't be a "servile puppy". :silly:
If one thing comes out of this wretched convention worthy of remembrance, it will be Cruz's heroism in standing up to Trump and his howling mob.
Oh brother. That was a huge crime that affected his state directly. Of course he talks about it. As for Caroline, that is his daughter. He is a very good father. The Orange Slanderer is not fit to tie Ted Cruz's shoes.

I didn't see an answer last night and would like to ask again, what is really going on in the picture of the blond on stage raising her hand in what appears to be a heil to a picture of Donald in the same pose?
An amazing sight to see. I'll never forget it. The crowd was cheering loudly for Cruz, and then turned when he mentioned the word "conscience".
The crowd became, in an instant, a mob.
Told you. I trusted Ted to do the right thing. Not the expedient thing. He delivered.
You know how damned weird it feels actually trusting a politician?
I am pumped today. I now know for certain that there is at least ONE person left in Washington with integrity, courage, and principles.
Everyone else is a bunch of uniparty stooges. Look, even Sanders - who I thought was a man of wrong principles, but principles - sold out to Hillary. Not Ted.
I am waiting for the Cruz camp to call my house. I will give them money, but - more importantly - I will ask, "What can I do? How can I personally give my support and labor to the one man left in Washington who deserves it?"
:amen: I feel better today than I have for a LONG time!
It was Laura Ingram just waiving to the camera, but like many times when someone waives on stage, the optics can be bad if caught just at the wrong angle at the wrong time.
We witnessed the death of the values based Republican Party last night. The final nail was when gown men were threatening Heidi Cruz to the point she had to walk out with armed security. This is now a party of mob rule, a party that booed the phrase 'voting your values', a party that booed 'voting for the Constitution', a party that booed when Cruz said " fight for freedom, to protect our God-given rights" , a party that booed 'Cast aside anger for love', a party that even booed when Cruz said "God Bless America". This split has been a long time coming. Even if you aren't a Ted Cruz fan, you owe him a debt of gratitude for exposing that

I heard it reported that Ted has a smile on his face when he left the stage. This did not surprise him.
As to "ruining his career"? Let's take a breath and recall that this election is supposed about upending the establishment. Anyone notice that Trump has kinda "moved on" from that? Ref: Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan.
Supposedly Hannity ripped Cruz last night. Anyone see it?
No, but not surprised.
Speaking of servile puppies, Hannity reportedly ripped Cruz last night. Anyone see it?

Haven't listened to or watched Hannity in years! He is a parrot and a puppet! Don't have time for that!
Yep, same here...listening to him even briefly would be tough. He's so repetitive it drives you nuts.
Did he beat him with his pom poms or give him two snaps in a z formation?

Time to vote for Trump - UP and down the ticket.
Never.
OPEN LIVE CONVENTION THREAD - THURSDAY, JULY 21
Last day and Cruz has stepped all over Donald's big day.
Ted Cruz is a "disloyal Republican" - Rudy Giuliani
Donald stepped all over his own day. Cruz clearly and concisely outlined a winning platform for 2016. And Trump promptly rejected it.
Never EVER Trump
Trump's walking in on Cruz's speech was a ham handed attempt at intimidation reminiscent of a scene in Godfather II where Frank Pentangeli's brother walks into Senate hearings while Frank was testifying. Trouble is that Cruz wasn't intimidated in the least.
Huckaby on Fox news right now trashing Cruz. Now I know why I never liked or trusted Huckaby. It was just a gut feeling then.....
the same gut feeling I've had about Trump.
When asked if he would keep the pledge he signed last September, ******* responded “No, I won’t.” ****** explained that he was taking back the pledge because, “I have been treated very unfairly,” and listed the Republican National Committee and party establishment among those he believes have wronged him....
Limbaugh has gone full Trumpbot, finally. He's saying Cruz committed career suicide, that the people supporting him are in the minority, that #NeverTrumpers are flooding over to defend Trump, LOL. And he's saying it while laughing that "heh heh heh" wheezy fat man's laugh.
This is priceless.
Wow, NBC has a spot on their media booth where young Millennial delegates and guests can leave messages about what they think of what is going on and it is exploding with anger at the party. The younger generation of Republicans were just exposed to the ugly side of politics and it turned them off. Here are a sample of some of the messages written on that wall. Good job RNC (I can't embed tweets since I gave up admin ability here so they are just links)..

It was a classic WWF move. One wrestler in the ring talking to the crowd when the arch enemy wrestler enters the arena and the crowd goes wild. Its a lowlife move best suited to reality TV and wrestling but it is what Trump is.
The best part of the whole ordeal. The fact that no matter how much they hate Ted Cruz right now, they still respect him far more than they will ever respect the servile puppies who have groveled at the feet of Lord Trump.
Thanks for the warning, I was about to turn the show on. I guess not.
In 10 years you'll be hard pressed to find a senator who won't claim they were on their feet cheering wildly for Ted Cruz on this night.
That's exactly what I thought as I watched him! WWE! (Is it E or F?)
It's nothing short of amazing. I started laughing and turned him off.
The 88 year old former Texan living next door to me nails it.
"A pledge may be important, but there was a time when Americans would have expected nothing less than to see the pledge broken for the lowlife behavior of Donald Trump. I don't know what's wrong with America today."

Disappointing if true. I dont see the NeverTrumpers rushing to trash Cruz-- See Jonah Goldberg.
Really like Rush-- but why the need to Trash Cruz?
We can still be Trump realists and vote our conscious for Trump while supporting Cruz in his future career choices including 2020 should Trump not make the cut.
Yep, Ted Cruz handed Trump a clear endorsement of the Constitution for Trump to run with and they choose to tear it limb from limb like a troop of angry chimpanzees.I just looked in at TOS, okay so I'm a masochist but not so much that I'll vote Trump, and the first post I see is by a of course a former Cruz supporter asking where all the Cruzers on FR have gone. I replied Run off long ago. Gone somewhere where dissent is allowed. Of course since all my posts are under mandatory moderator review I doubt that it will be allowed to post. Then again with that site in such lock step now they may allow it to serve as chum so that all the sharks there can have a feeding frenzy.
The divorce is final, there will never be any joining with Trumpers.

All primary long Rush said that Cruz was the conservative's candidate.
Then he went and supported Trump.
I guess 25 years of talk about 'Advanced Conservative Studies' was all a bunch of bulls*t.
LOL, Rush is saying no one else would ever have allowed such a speech to be read---only Trump, because he's playing chess and set a brilliant trap for Cruz!
lololol *deep breath* lmao
This speech would have been a gold mine for Rush back in the day. Full of Constitution, values, and the principles that make Conservatism. He is selling out to the cult of personality over the values that the party once stood for.

All primary long Rush said that Cruz was the conservative's candidate.First and foremost Rush is about Rush and Rush's bank account, that's why so much of his show is filled with commercials for his tea, and his books. I think Rush ran the numbers and decided he would lose too much money from the Trumpsters dropping off as listeners than Cruz supporters. Truth be told I had rarely listened to him the last few years and only when at my elderly mothers who listens every day, but then she mostly uses him for background noise.

OPEN LIVE CONVENTION THREAD - THURSDAY, JULY 21
Last day and Cruz has stepped all over Donald's big day.
Let's roll.
I'm listening to Rush and I listen to him almost daily and I am not hearing the things you guys are claiming he said. Amazing how the perception of what Rush says can be so different for his listeners. Rush always seems to be fair, IMO. And I haven't heard him go full-Trumpist.

And all along I thought the important thing was to be a loyal AMERICAN! Cripes if someone wants a political party where dissent is not allowed, where everyone must walk in lockstep or be torn apart by angry villagers, we have had that for decades and decades. It's called the Democrat party, though I guess now we have a uniparty the republicrats.
Is Rootie Tootie trying to pay Ted a compliment? Sure. Count me in also as a disloyal Repub. Since they have abandoned conservatism - I'm no longer loyal to them.
Now that's interesting. I can't listen to his show as I'm at work, so I'm depending on what's being reported by folks here.

I think that the main gist that came out of last nite ....aside from Cruz's rousing speech (and the applause it garnered)....is that Trump exposed what a conniving piece of excrement he is by instigating the crowd to boo Ted, even though he knew beforehand what Cruz would say and that there would be no endorsement. Just shows that Trump is, like a typical liberal (still), just as bad a winner as he is a loser.
Earth to Trump: You are only convincing me ....more and more....to NOT vote for you this November, when I had resigned myself to have do so. Heckuva job, Trumpy!!!

That was gold. I'm sending it to some friends just to tick them off.
Poor Donnie, he has to walk on the earth he scorched.
I think you're right. After the staged boos died down last night, reality set in and Trump's little game of 'letting' Ted Cruz speak and then orchestrating massive booing backfired big time.
Ted made all the little toadies who have bent to the will of Trump revealed for the sickening people that they are.
He was not only the only Man in the room ... but he made Trump look silly and vindictive.
Trump usually handles that very well by himself.

I understand that....which is why I commented. You need to listen to what he said (or read the transcript) for yourself and draw your own conclusion before you condemn him (or anyone, for that matter).
People have different perceptions about what is said....always. Especially if/when they may already have a bias working in there. And let's face it. We all do have a bias, whether we want to admit it or not.
Someone is committing career suicide alright but it ain't Ted Cruz!
Among other milestones set, I think last night spelled the beginning of the end for the current cohort of conservative talking heads.
They are old and tired and most definitely on the wrong side of this dustup, and Cruz represents a new kind of principled fighter. Those younger people who have the capacity to recognize truth will gravitate to him.
The fact that they have completely abandoned simple common decency when they called Trump's wildly over the top attacks "Just politics".
If accusing a candidate's father (in your own party) of being involved in the assassination of a former president is "just politics", it needs to die a quick and violent death because its a serious problem.
Its the politics of cultural degeneracy and talkers who refuse to denounce it are just as guilty as those who seek to shove homosexuality, transgenderism etc in our faces.

I just posted that I believe Rush is a part of the establishment old boys' club and is angry that Cruz offended his golfing buddy. I know someone who researched Rush's transcripts to find out the ratio of positive comments re: Trump and Cruz. Despite mouthing lip service to conservatism, the positive coverage of Trump far outweighed that of Cruz.
@Cripplecreek
What I think it comes down to is the reality that Rush is part of the old boys' club and he's upset that Cruz didn't endorse his golfing buddy.
I turned on the radio again at the top of the hour. Limbaugh was discussing the attack on Heidi Cruz...said that happened only after a Cruz superpac went after Melania. So blame Cruz for that. Then he rather grudgingly admitted the superpac wasn't really connected to Cruz, not officially, but "that's how it happened."
Stunning.
Wonder what Rush is going to do when 1/3rd of the delegates walk out on Trump tonight, because after last night that is a distinct possibility.
Someone is committing career suicide alright but it ain't Ted Cruz!

I thought that it was a Never Trump super pac that published the Melania pictures, not a Cruz one.
It was Liz Maer's, Make America Awesome PAC. She admitted she isn't a fan of Cruz either and her PAC only endorsed him in some States where he could beat Trump (like Utah). She was actually a major Rubio supporter. So when you get down to it, that was a Rubio PAC, not a Cruz PAC.

We really rolled yesterday, Sink. What a great thread that was. It was cathartic to be around human beings who still had a little brain matter left.
Cruz spoke with integrity. I thought this is what we wanted in Washington.Time and again Cruz has shown that "Make sure you're right and then go ahead" philosophy that should make Texas proud. If what Cruz did last night was abandoning the Republican Party and abandoning conservative then the Republican party can kiss my donkey good-bye and I'll leave.
Whatever the consequences of his speech I have no doubt he has earned the respect of millions of us for it.
Exactly! It's stunning to me to watch Trump and his minions doubling down on stupid today.Ted Cruz essentially said. Do you what you think is right and support the constution (see my tage line) and Trump folks are throwing a coniption fit! Ted Cruz has revealed that this movement is against Liber, against the Constituion, and demands the right to tell people what do and conscience be damned.
According to what I've read, Cruz met with Trump two days ago and told him there would be no endorsement. In response, Trump threatened to have someone gin up boos during his speech. So he expected it.I heard plenty of people chanting 2020 while he was talking!

If you take Cruz saying 'vote your values' as not endorsing Trump - you admit Trump does not follow your values.Boom. That is going to leave a mark!
Line of the day!

TED CRUZ
MIKE LEE
2020
Boom. That is going to leave a mark!
Your tagline: Stand, and speak, and vote your conscience, vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the Constitution- Ted CruzI'm saddened by so many Americans today. **nononono* Neglecting to see the truth, or seeing the truth and making excuses to ignore it. What Ted Cruz did last night, was speak the truth.
The funniest (and saddest) part of all this is that the Trumpions must repudiate that statement in order to kiss the ring of their mob boss.
What the hell kind of sentence is this? (And notice he wants to make sure it's being recorded so none of his droppings are missed):A run on. A hopelessly confused run on.

Great point on Rush's show:
Cruz supporter from San Antonio said if Trump had not entered into the race, we may well have been looking at Jeb Bush as the nominee.
Sure, I'm sure the chorus will say "But Trump is establishment"; not very persuasive really.
No Trump is a Clinton. He's on recod as praising Bill Clinton, he's on record as praising Hillary Clinton's job as Sec. of State, and he was a registered Democrat for the first four years of Obama. Furthermore he's admitted to being friends with the Clintons and his campaign was started by a phone call with the Clintons.
And, apparently, not all Republicans know how to use apostrophes. They are just being overly possessive.

Facts, Truth, Honor, Conviction, Courage, Principle, Value, Integrity, Character, Patriotism and Class are just a few of the 'pesky' intrusions that the Trump Family did not welcome in Ted's speech. A picture is worth a thousand words. Their body language, their facial expressions when Ted Cruz spoke with truth and sincerity was not well received by the Trump family. NO indeed, they were not happy campers that Ted effectively and with class challenged their father to step up to the plate and adhere to the Constitution and our conservatives beliefs. And Ted succinctly did it so well.

I'll give you one guess and it isn't Cruz.

I'm hearing they might put John Boehner on stage tonight to rebut Cruz. it would complete the freak show full circle.
This morning Ted said he would not be a "servile puppy dog" for Trump. Neither will I be a "servile puppy dog" for Trump. The former candidates have become "servile puppy dogs" except for Kasich who was asked to be Trump's Vice President and he said, "NO". Kasich will not be a "servile puppy dog" for Trump.
Kasich is first a Christian and he has said that. His family comes next. Service as governor of his state is next. He is a man of honor and I have had a love for him since he produced the last balanced budget this country has had. When he resigned from the House, I was upset he left. He had just married, and he left to start his family and support them. I totally admired him and still do. He will always do what he thinks is right for God, family, state, country.
My significant other has a son (pilot for major airline) who lives in Ohio and we go there every year if we can. We go in August to get away from the high heat here in Texas. We put "stuff" in the car, including the 5 lb. Yorkie, and head north, stopping at casinos along the way. I feel fine in Ohio knowing it is a conservative state with Kasich as Governor.
From Ohio, we head north to Cornell, New York, where the daughter (liberal to the left of Stalin) works for Cornell University - the most liberal town/university in the whole world. The area is lovely among the mountains, but I can't wait to get out of there. The LBGT (variations of homosexual deviancy) is a large group there. I doubt there is a single conservative in Cornell. There is no way in hell I would live there. If I worked for Cornell Un., I would get fired the first day.
CLEVELAND — Sen. Ted Cruz's camp fired back at Chris Christie Thursday, accusing the governor of having "turned over his political testicles long ago."
Jeff Roe, Cruz's former campaign manager, took to the airwaves to hit New Jersey's governor after Christie spent lthe morning and last night trashing Cruz after the Texas lawmaker failed to endorse GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday.
"That guy turned over his political testicles long ago," Roe said on the Chris Stigall Show on Philadelphia radio. "So I don't take what he has to say with any meaning. You know, he embarrassed himself pretty quickly in this."
Christie endorsed Trump shortly after ending his own presidential bid and now heads his transition team. He lost out in the battle to be Trump's running mate.
Roe's response came after Christie unleashed on Cruz Wednesday night after the lawmaker's speech during the GOP convention. Christie called the speech "awful" and "selfish."

That would do it. If you had any tiny, tiny question left where DT stands, that would answer it for you.
Daniel Horowitz @RMConservative 60m60 minutes ago"Please don't throw me in the briar patch". Trump is now definitely GOPe. Cruz chose not to walk that path.

Look folks, I admire Ted Cruz. He gained my utmost respect with what he did last night. The vitriol and hatred being fired at him, his wife, his family and all of us by the GOP and Trump's folks is just another example of a nation and culture that hates what was once considered the pillars of virtue, morality and righteousness.
Last night was validation that my resignation from the GOP was perfectly warranted. The hatred and vitriol this morning and this afternoon directed at us from the Trump brigades continues to illustrate that it is not Hillary they fear and despise - but you and me.
That said, I think the sloganeering for Cruz 2020 is a bit off-putting. Conservatives do not get wrapped up in cults of personality and assert they can save us and the nation. Marxists do that. Fascists (or if you prefer, Nationalist Populists) do that. If you take time to seriously realize what is happening - this is no longer simple party politics. You are witnessing the absolute END of a Republic and the start of something frightening and dangerous in terms of your near future and the future of liberty.
That the phrase "defend the Constitution" is booed by delegates at a Convention of a party that portrays itself as it's only defender (simply because they hate the man speaking it), was as revealing to what the Trump phenomena is all about as anything else you could ever demand in terms of a sign.
It's time to get sober because all of this is not some sporting event where you can rah-rah your team, have a beer and go home to bed later drunk and happy. We've been fundamentally transformed, and we have all been played.
Sloganeering Cruz in 2020 is absurd considering you are watching the permanent entrenchment of a Ruling Class oligarchy under the false guise of an everyman outsider businessman who will fix all that ails us. The mobs want of a monarchy from both the Left and the populist nationalist right. Constitutional Conservatives are in exodus and in the wilderness. You are witness to the death of a party and a Republic by an overwhelming majority of the population that no longer has any fealty or use for the foundational principles and the documents that safeguarded liberty. They want a king. It's all about the man, or the woman, or loyalty to a party instead of once solid principles or values. The absolute absurd and ridiculous efforts made to justify the egregious and the affronts to those principles demonstrates the total abandonment of the pillars of our liberty by both major parties.
They will claim them, and pay lip service to them, but the fruits are easily discernible to those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.
This is a day to mourn. Not a day to proclaim a new president, a new savior or caesar for 2020.
A nation has to be re-evangelized to the religious heritage it has discarded and the foundational principles it has abandoned. A nation has to repent of it's waywardness. But the mobs clamoring for Hillary, Bernie or Trump see no need for such things. Indeed, even their champions themselves see no need for such humility under God because they see themselves as the means to perfection. They despise "bible thumpers" and portray anyone suggesting a return to First Principles as religious fanatics who pose a danger to freedom and the separation of church and state.
These nominees reflect the culture and this people. It's time to get real about that and stop fooling yourselves that we are a majority, because if we were - the majority has surrendered to ideologies and leaders who are anathema to everything we stood for, replacing them for empty promises of vengeance, walls and punishments to sate their feelings. And no marvel, for the churches and religious institutions themselves are dwindling in attendance and influence. Government has become god. Men are made messiahs and saviors.
Cruz has indeed manifested himself as a leader of the kind of Conservatism we still believe in and make us who we are, and he can do well to preach it. Because until we return to becoming a religious and moral people, we have no hope of having decent leaders, because this people and the mobs will reject them for worse and more heinous wicked ones. Being deceived and doing the deceiving because they delight in the season of unrighteousness under a sole ruler who is their own authority.
A people have to be won to the principles we once shared before we can give any thought to someone like a Cruz being elected a leader that can administer a nation.

An amazing sight to see. I'll never forget it. The crowd was cheering loudly for Cruz, and then turned when he mentioned the word "conscience".
The crowd became, in an instant, a mob.

The beatings will continue until unity improves.
You know, I was just thinking. Trump says we might renege on our long-standing promises to NATO, yet some expect him to keep his promises on judges. What promise? That was a "suggestion" and don't talk about that list, Trump himself walked that back within 24 hours.
Not likely.

Hey, peeps, it is absolutely IRRELEVANT whether Cruz endorsed the King Cheetoh. You know why? Because he's going to be the nominee anyway. And nothing that is said now, will change that.
If people really cared about this damn country, they'd get ON TOPIC and start discussing what actually matters.
Fighting for the Constitution, Defending Liberty and STOPPING the opponents to those ends. Hello?
Cruz is not the enemy. He's just the messenger. Stop attacking, vilifying and making HIM the story. Pay attention to the message.
I'm just sick of seeing people I thought were Christians, slamming Cruz. It's pissing me off.

Why would I elect a man who talked about his genitals at a national debate??
Oh brother. That was a huge crime that affected his state directly. Of course he talks about it. As for Caroline, that is his daughter. He is a very good father. The Orange Slanderer is not fit to tie Ted Cruz's shoes. That officer's daughter is named Caroline, too. When the kid you are feeling for, having lost her father has the same name and is about the same age as your kid...

All you have to do is split the vote 3 ways in enough states, so there aren't enough electors to get any one candidate over the top. All you need is a few good second and third place finishes in just the right States, and it will throw the decision to the House of Representatives.
Just sayin.

I've said before - if that happens, the Dominos delivery driver will wind up being voted President.
Yeah, well....we don't quite know 'what' you are Ann. How's that trans surgery coming? Any word on the adam's apple part? And...is Bill (your former little bitch) planning on getting back together with you once your transformation is complete? Inquiring minds want to know.
I've said before - if that happens, the Dominos delivery driver will wind up being voted President.
So what I'm getting today is that honoring a pledge is more important than what the pledge represents?I think the pledge to the Republic for which it stands comes out on top not the pledge to the party. This is America after all.
Guess its a good thing I didn't pledge to support 2 bit clown Hitler in 1922 because it would only have been right for me to honor that pledge in 1945. Sure I helped murder a few million Jews but I made a pledge to help out. :facepalm2:
The fact is I never cared about the pledge in the 1st place. I thought it was idiotic and know lyin Don would never honor it anyway. The pledge was created specifically for Trump because of his own constant and continued threats and promises to break it himself. Its not written in stone, its not in the party platform, its not in the constitution. Hell, its not even legally binding.
Screw Trump and his pledge.
I think the pledge to the Republic for which it stands comes out on top not the pledge to the party. This is America after all.
As a point of order, I will understand your 'in your own party' to be a matter of emphasis rather than delineation. As some around here remind us. Thou shalt not bear false witness is a commandment not a suggestion.
Slander has no part in this at all, be it one's own party or otherwise. Any candidate that I support that knowingly slanders ANYONE purposefully will lose my support.

EXCLUSIVE: Cops fear for Ted Cruz safety as they offer to step up protection for senator after his refusal to endorse Trump led to fury at the convention

Rabid animals.
I posted this on my FB page just now....
I have a challenge for my friends who have spent last night and today condemning that dirty, rotten scoundrel named Ted Cruz for the slight of not endorsing Donald Trump for President in his speech last night.
I took the liberty of finding Ronald Reagan's speech from the 1976 Republican National Convention, and posted the link below. Please take note that NOT ONCE in the speech did he specifically endorse Gerald Ford, but made one reference to him in the opening line of the speech. He made no mention of any policies Ford was offering either, so he actually said LESS about Ford than Cruz said about Trump.
So, to all my friends who are declaring this day that Ted Cruz is some sort of terrible person, then to be consistent you are also calling Ronald Reagan a possibly EVEN WORSE terrible person.
Let that soak in for a while, OK? BTW, nobody booed Ronald Reagan for the fine speech. Oh, the challenge? Think for a minute about the heaps of dung you're slinging at Ted Cruz today. That's all I ask.

I used to think it was pablum to reference things to a certain era in the 20s and 30s.
Now I see it. Trumpists are scarier than Trump.
They also assume my like of Cruz is identical to their fanaticism of Trump. Patently untrue. Last night I would have dropped Cruz like a hot potato if he endorsed.
If you can't mention history, you can't learn from it.
But the one lesson history teaches us is that no one learns from history.
We have reached a line of demarcation. I don't see how I can ally myself with anyone who thinks it is traitorous to ask people to follow their Conscience and support the Constitution.
I consider it an insult that I'm expected to ally myself with such scum.

The 88 year old former Texan living next door to me nails it.Yes. I was watching FOX News Special Report tonight, and all the assorted stooges er commentators slammed Cruz for venting. Brit Hume was particularly obnoxious saying Cruz gave away his real reasons this morning when he said he wouldn't support someone who reviled family members thereby negating what he said last night about principle. As if Cruz didn't do both.

Due to the fact that the Trump mob has nothing better to do but hit the report button to the mods over every single thing that they find objectionable, I have been instructed to remove the historical date reference of my comment because the precious snowflakes for Trump are offended at the reference.
It's [deleted] folks, and you are watching a mob pine for a dictator to rule and crush everyone who will not bow and genuflect.
The fact the Trump fanatics have demonstrated they hate Constitutional Conservatives and men like Ted Cruz more than they attack Hillary is all you need to know about who they consider the real enemy to be.
We have reached a line of demarcation. I don't see how I can ally myself with anyone who thinks it is traitorous to ask people to follow their Conscience and support the Constitution.

Yes.
Trump is a louse who has no business being the nominee. Millions of his votes in the primaries were Dem crossovers who were deliberately trying to get him in there.
All the Cruz haters can't seem to understand that basic fact.... Trump is totally unfit to be president. Because Clinton is more unfit does not make Trump a fit candidates. Because one fecal sandwich is plain and one has catsup on it does not make the one with catsup fit for consumption.
I just saw a re-run of what he said at the Texas delegate breakfast this morning. He said it from his heart, you could easily tell that, saying he would not support anyone who attacked his family - he said it was personal with Trump. He said the pledge was not all inclusive if the candidate attacked your family.Trump is the epitome of sleaze, slime, a disgusting piece of humanity who should not be in charge of the government for over 300 million people in this country.
His statement this morning was not about the constitution or liberty, this morning he was speaking about the person of Donald Trump. He said it wasn't about politics, it was personal with Trump. He nailed Trump to the floor last night and this morning. Trump deserved to be nailed.
He knows as I know and many of you know, Trump is the epitome of sleaze, slime, a disgusting piece of humanity who should not be in charge of the government for over 300 million people in this country.

Similar responses continue down the length of the thread.
The key portion of that chapter to always remember is what Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego actually replied to the king, after the entire nation fell to worship the idol at the sound of the bell and these 3 refused to bow.:amen:
Nebuchadnezzar actually gave them a second change to go along with committing idolatry and saving their lives and instead they said this:
“King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” - Daniel 3:16-18
This is just a scriptural depiction of the image we have put up that shows a nation seig-heiling Hitler and one man refusing to salute.
The Trump militant can throw numbers at you and tell you that you are a tiny irrelevant minority and that everyone is worshipping and supporting Trump - but stand firm on principles that forbid you to bow down and support someone that is totally and completely antithetical to everything you believe in.
Even if God does not save us from militant mobs threatening us, we will still not bow down and vote for Trump.
No, but not surprised. All the FOX "smart" pundits ripped Cruz. They revealed themselves as Trump stooges. That includes Krauthammer, Hume, Carlson, and Gutfeld. I knew Hannity has been a Trump a**-kisser for a long time, so that was no surprise.
Yes...last night was as revealing as when the Dems booed God.
(Now watch some Trump supporter accuse me of comparing Cruz to God).

Limbaugh has gone full Trumpbot, finally. He's saying Cruz committed career suicide, that the people supporting him are in the minority, that #NeverTrumpers are flooding over to defend Trump, LOL. And he's saying it while laughing that "heh heh heh" wheezy fat man's laugh.Actually Rush was a lot more conciliatory and understanding of Cruz than many other people in the "conservative" media especially the stooges on FOX news who roundly condemned Cruz.
This is priceless.

"America's blue-collar billionaire?" Wow.Real estate tycoon, author, actor, and head of countless Trump Way products is considered blue collar now? Right! I'll bet Trump has lots of calluses on his tiny hands from typing so hard every day. I’ll further bet he has blisters on his feet from having to walk from his 757 to the limo. Such a hard working manly man, almost like being a lumber jack.

Actually Rush was a lot more conciliatory and understanding of Cruz than many other people in the "conservative" media especially the stooges on FOX news who roundly condemned Cruz.
He thinks Cruz probably made a mistake, but I listened to almost his whole program today, and he was almost sympathetic to Cruz. Because Limbaugh knows deep in his heart Cruz was the best candidate. He's even called him a strong conservative many times on past programs. And he had many pro-Cruz callers on his show today.
Rush has tried to play both sides of the fence by not slamming Trump when he deserved slamming. But he looked at Cruz as the candidate of the future. He thinks he might have ruined his career, but we'll see.
I'm just negative about the whole situation anyway. A party that chooses a Trump over all the other capable candidates is a party that deserves to go down in flames.
All you have to do is split the vote 3 ways in enough states, so there aren't enough electors to get any one candidate over the top. All you need is a few good second and third place finishes in just the right States, and it will throw the decision to the House of Representatives.
Just sayin.
Yeah, that's what FR thinks, too. When did they ever get anything right? When you have kicked out everyone except Trumpers, you get a group think. I may be in the minority, but I think Cruz played his cards exactly right. He may never be President, but I salute his conservatism. (I also like his snark)

I've said before - if that happens, the Dominos delivery driver will wind up being voted President. That driver will likely be sober (or at least know when not to be drunk), not a druggie (munchies don't get pizzas delivered), and someone who can be trusted with money.

You know, I was just thinking. Trump says we might renege on our long-standing promises to NATO, yet some expect him to keep his promises on judges.
Not likely.
Serious question: How many Trump supporters could name Mitch McConnell or pick him out of a lineup?
NATO is obsolete. They aren't Trump's "long-standing promises", so it's not fair and actually a strawman to connect it his promise on judges.
Plus, a GOP-led Congress will make him keep his SCOTUS promises.

Come to think of it, between him, Jim Hoft, and Milo Y. (not even going to bother trying to remember how his name is spelled), Trump seems to be surrounded by quite a few gay "supporters." If there's a velvet mafia, it seems to be lining up pretty solidly behind Trump.

Oh yeah AM 570 Seattle. Trump this, and that. Cruz ruined his career. Broke a pledge he signed Its the only thing people will remember about his speech...........yada, yada, yada. I tried to call them. I am so fed up but couldn't wait for them to answer the phone. I wanted to let them know that I found what Cruz did inspiring. That he was a husband who stood up for his wife. A son that stood up for a father. A man of principle.
And do you think that they would mention that Trump said more than once he would break the pledge if he didn't think he was being treated fairly? Trump never once felt bound by his word. Not once.

My mother is visiting, and as a result I have to abandon my own living room so she can watch the convention. I refuse to listen to those jackasses. I don't watch conventions in the best of years, I'm hardly going to start when I can't bear to listen to the sycophantic lead-up to the leader of the "new" GOP, let alone the idiot himself.
Is he going to federalize local law enforcement?
But the question is....who DOES Donald Jr. resemble.
The mailman?
The infamous smokey backroom and Trump is right at home there.I first read that as smokey bathroom, come to think of it Trump is right at home there too.
Is he going to federalize local law enforcement?
This is a straw man for his silly supporters. There is NO ROLE for federal government in local crime.
mr.potato - His timing, his diction, his delivery, his pronunciation is just awful. Just about the worst public speaker we have had as a prez candidate.
Trump is doing pretty good I must admit..doing a lot better with the teleprompter tonight.
I have a hard time with that right hand. Would like to pin it behind his back.LOLOLOLOLOL....reminds me of Dr. Ruth.
This speech is frightening on many levels...
Thanks a lot, @INVAR !
Says a lot about you. You're a helluva adversary on the board here.
I agree. It is old school populism at its core. It is promoting a strong, authoritarian central government. As predicted.

We're going to do this again next week for the Democrat Convention, so plan on reconvening on Monday, somewhere on this forum. Will probably only be one thread for that one.
Nite all.
The only difference between the two parties now is the figurehead fuhrer
After last nite's setup and back stabbing event against Cruz, I think I have finally converted to a #nevertrump. He will now have to EARN my vote back over the next few months. I sincerely doubt that he'll be able to do that, since I think he's just getting started and just getting warmed up with the BS agenda of pissing off the base.
And right about now, Day 4, I am sick to death of hearing idiots laud The Don. He proved himself unworthy last night.
Did anyone notice the choice of wording re: this part?
He didn't say how he would protect that right. And he didn't say he would protect the right of Americans to keep their families safe via gun ownership. I wonder why.

If Americans are stupid enough to elect a failed community organizer who couldn't earn a promotion to associate professor after twelve years of lecturing at the University of Chicago, then they are stupid enough to elect someone they hold up as a model of success after two divorces, four bankruptcies, and an ongoing class action lawsuit for fraud.

However, LiButti’s daughter Edith Creamer has accused Trump of lying about the extent of his relationship with her late father. It was a relationship that, according to Creamer, involved LiButti gambling millions of dollars at one of Trump’s privately owned casinos, as well as using his helicopter to fly to Atlantic City and his private yacht to party. The helicopter claims are easily corroborated by a police recording from 1990 during which LiButti describes a conversation with Trump on a helicopter.

Now as to the comment above to quit referring to this group as a mob. Here's the definition I just got of the internet about mom
Full Definition of mob
1
: a large or disorderly crowd; especially : one bent on riotous or destructive action
2
: the lower classes of a community : masses, rabble
3
chiefly Australian : a flock, drove, or herd of animals
4
: a criminal set : gang; especially often capitalized : mafia 1
5
chiefly British : a group of people : crowd
Seems to me that #1 at least fit really well. Just a thought.

Ah, that was really lame. What indications of rioting or destruction have you seen in postings on an internet forum?
I am a very happy camper tonight but I think the gang here on this site don't understand the concept of being happy.
Must have been the way they spelled "honer" that threw him. :tongue2:
You misspelled "Lion", as in Lion Ted.
As to lies you need to ask Ben Carson what he thinks of lying Ted.
Nah. People having a good time don't try to ruin it. You're here looking to spark something.
So, here, something sparked:

I thought that graphic was greatly representative of Mr. Trump's speech tonight. :shrug:Any night, for that matter.
Geez this was a nice funny thread and then the kids from the "offical" thread come over because sink has gone to bed and now all I have is page after page of You are Ignoring This Poster... :chairbang:

The only problem with that graphic is that I believe the woman in the upper left quadrant is Donald Trump Jr.'s wife Vanessa, not Trump's daughter Ivanka.
I think you are correct. Did not watch the speech tonight, but plan on voting for Trump.
Cant tell if Trump did well or not. After reading both threads here, it is like two different speeches were given...
Trump's Castro-like manifesto tonight made it very certain that there is absolutely NO DIFFERENCE between the GOP, the Democrats OR Hillary.
That HE ALONE can fix the country - and HE can stop corporations from moving out of the country and firing their employees is every bit a Fascist and dictatorial as Benito Mussolini's prescription for Italy in 1922 was.
Now because the historical reference is offensive to the snowflakes who worship the Orange One - I imagine that they will report it and I will again be forced to edit the comment.
However, when you compare some of the speeches of Benito in the early 20s with what we heard tonight from Trump - and your hair should stand on end.

The characterization is not warranted, is inflammatory, and is intended to cause aggravation.

Q: HAhHAHAAAHAHAAHA YOUR GUY LOST HAHAHAHA
A: That's not a question. But, yes. He did. Here's a little secret though... my guy always loses. If my guys were winning, our country wouldn't be as screwed up as it is.
Benito himself, who also said, "Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power”. Sounds like what he wants to me.
"It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep"
Who said it?
Try #2 or something between #1 and #2.Pro and con comments have been made on the Open Thread. Myst gave Trump good marks on his speech here.
Really.
Your last line about not warranted, inflammatory and intended to cause aggravation is exactly what I read into the vast majority of posters on this thread who whined for three nights about Trump.
But then I don't take people who act like this to seriously.

The speech and delivery both stunk.

Oh, is it going to be another Trump supporter full meltdown night or just your run of the mill "Your guy sucks donkey balls" insults from them? Really, I can't wait until tomorrow to read the rest of the thread and see if any more have gone on a bender and come to take it out on us.
He said he was going to outline his plan for America. How long must I wait for that?

Little difference, as I suspected - from when Trumpy went all Nixonian on us and started with the character assassinations. The more I looked, the more HE looks like a fake, a fraud, a political Kim Kardashian. Supported by others; in his case, by legitimate developers who used Donnie as an interface with Tammany.
Being a bagman can pay very well, apparently. I give Donnie props for being able to make his fortune out of it and even put a respectable veneer on it.
But, THIS. Not only does Trump not have Secret Answers that the rest of us don't; he doesn't even know what most educated conservatives DO know. The secret to getting the economy back on track is THE INDIVIDUAL.
The economy is stagnant, is retracting, because millions of individuals are unsure about their future and cannot plan - logical expectations of what will come, can be weighed, when the variables are known. Such as technological progress or political unrest.
What can NOT be planned for, is the caprices of government commissars who can ORDER products banned or subsidized, or redesigned to fit the emotional needs of the commissar or the one he works for.
So the economy is paralyzed.
Because the political situation is that of a creeping tyranny - property rights, including the rights to keep the results of one's labor, are no longer protected. Extralegal action by elected officials, yes and ESPECIALLY social-engineer fake-judges, is the norm now. Rights are a political football - some rights are more protected than others, which are ignored and trampled on.
Donnie, in the end...his mouth is writing a check his knowledge and future options cannot cash. I have believed for awhile that the next President may well be the last, at least in this form...and whoever he/she is, he may wind up with his head on a pike.
Donnie, with his big yap and his empty cranium, is making that idea not-so-unpalatable.
Invar...good to find you again.

Is #NeverTrump done dreaming about Ted Cruz yet?
(Hint to all the wonderful friends on this thread: Cruz lost the nomination. Donald Trump just accepted the nomination, and therefore Ted Cruz is mathematically eliminated as the 2016 Republican nominee for president. Don't bother thanking me for cluing you folks in)
So did I miss it or did he not mention the Constitution, limited government, maximizing individual liberty, staying true to values, or any of the fundamental Conservative principles?
Oh I forgot, those came up in the speech last night- they were booed.
I had to teach an evening class, and missed most of last night's reality show. But I saw enough of Trump's speech, yelling and dumbed down to the fifth-grade level of most of his supporters, to conclude that he's channeling Mussolini and pitching a cult of personality. Yes, he shouted, He, and only He, will make the trains run on time.
Are we as Americans this weak-minded to fail to see how this blowhard is exploiting us? We're the greatest nation on earth, yet apparently we're as close as Italy in the twenties and Germany in the thirties to sacrificing our Constitution to this narcotic balm.
Reagan's spinning in his grave. So is Goldwater, so is Lincoln.
Give me four years of Clinton to this dangerous fool. It is only through the defeat of Trumpism that liberty-centric conservatism can rise again. Ted Cruz is right - vote your conscience. George Will is right - all that's left to do now is work to bury Trump and LIVE to fight another day.

I guess we know now. We've survived 200 years, it appears, by not encouraging the fools. But now the fools have been roused awake.
Let's not kid ourselves. IMO, voting for "none of the above" isn't an option. If there's a clear and present danger, it must be confronted and defeated, by any means necessary.

I agree. It's not just Trump himself, with all that he entails.
It's his followers and what they will continue to sow onto society. IMO, his supporters are way worse than any Clinton supporters. I have seen some vile tings by Clinton supporters, but nothing near as vile, rude, mean spirited, outright insulting and threatening, as I have with Trump supporters. In fact, with the few Clinton supporters I've dealt with, they are just dumb....well, ignorant and dumb. But they aren't so mind warped as to go out of their ever living minds as to expect, demand and threaten those that don't comply with Yes We Cankles. I listened to all I could endure of the speech. I was first distracted by the delivery. He obviously did not do the work to disguise the fact that he was reading. Then I got distracted by the yelling. Most politicians do this. They think that volume = passion and intensity.
All along, I have waited/hoped for Trump to give me a reason. July 5 did move me to Trump realism; but Trump had nothing to do with that.
I thought July 22 might give me something to solidify that. Perhaps a line or two of humility. Perhaps just a tad bit less egocentric. Perhaps a solid and detailed plan on spending. Perhaps a specific condemnation of the Republican controlled Congress (McConnell / Ryan). I could go on.
I'll be listening and reading reports to see what I missed. I do want to keep an open mind.
Dear GOP:
I am embarrassed for you! I truly am!
A sad American!
Trump didn't mention any of those things and never got around to "outlining his plan for America" like he promised to do at the beginning of that whatever it was last night! The Trump caucus already has their excuse: "Well, neither will Hillary, so shut up."

Trump's Castro-like manifesto tonight made it very certain that there is absolutely NO DIFFERENCE between the GOP, the Democrats OR Hillary.

Oh, now that is funny AND original. I love it.
That said, all of this discussion about what Trump would do or wouldn't do is moot, IMO. His Wednesday night stunt against Cruz just cemented the distrust and dislike he had already created among Cruz fans.
I had fully resigned myself to vote for him this November, even tho I doubted he would win. Hell, I was even feeling warm and fuzzy about the convention events, even if not fully 'on board' the orange crazy train. But Wednesday nite's ambush and setup of Cruz sealed the 'deal' for me. It proved, in my mind, that nothing had changed since the vicious primary campaign. Trump was still Trump, IOW.
Instigating boos and assaulting Heidi on their way out is something that only supposedly happens in banana republics and communist nations. We have officially been fundamentally transformed, already, apparently. And that's all thanks to liberals (now called leftists).
The last thing we need is to elect yet another liberal to the highest office in the land....even if Trump could win the election, which he can't without the conservative base votes. He, himself, has managed to eliminate that possibility via his very own hateful rhetoric and actions. Trump is a tweet-addicted twittering twit and not fit for the office. He has proven that time and time again, and especially Wednesday night and after, with his insulting tweets about Cruz (he just never knows when to quit the BS).
So....alas, I find myself no longer on the outside of both camps. I have decided to join the #neverTrump movement. Why? Aside from the reasons already listed, I am convinced that at least with a Hillary win, we can and probably will impeach, assuming we retain majority control of both houses. If not, it's all down the tubes anyway. And considering how badly the GOP has treated its base in the last couple of years and throughout this primary season, there's not much chance that the GOP will retain that majority control. So Trump would never be able to do anything he promises anyway. It would be just another go along while getting along and 'oh well, maybe next election' BS cycle of downward spiral. No thanks. Been there, done that to death.
Fighting Hillary would be our only chance, since there would be no will whatsoever to fight Trump, even if he miraculously beat Hillary (fat cankle chance). So I am now resigned in another direction. Great work, Donald. You have earned the loss of yet another vote.
Trump isn't interested in an endorsement from Cruz. What he wants is fealty from the vanquished.
Either Trump has calculated that he doesn't need Cruz's support, or he isn't willing to do what is necessary to earn it. But either way, Trump and his mob are responsible for the lack of support from the rest of the party. It's their job to bring the party together by being magnanimous in victory. They've chosen to be petty and vindictive.
I have also compared him to Mussolini the dictator. It fits. Trump said, "I am the only one who can fix this." His whole speech was, "I will" as though he will dictate and it will happen. How many times did he say, "One day one when I am president, I will ..." and he describes actions only congress can take. He absolutely thinks he will dictate (as he does with his company) and "x" will happen. He is dangerous and the sheep don't see it.

Conservatives were very, very split between hating the authortarian attitude to acceptance because he isn't Hillary.
I still hope I'm completely wrong because I continue to believe a viable GOP with all of its factions is the only hope for a conservative government.
Glad to know you are there. Always thought highly of how you form your opinions.
Looks like 2*31^2, which are the prime factors of Trump ( hat tip @INVAR), has managed to push two members to the Hillary camp from last night's speech--which I may get around to watching at some point.
Very disappointed in Jonah Goldberg ( and similar folks who would not declare FOR a primary candidate) , as he came out for Cruz only after Cruz's convention speech and not when it would have mattered in February or even March. Ultimately, Jonah was too lost in his brilliant locutions and poignant references to Caligula's Horse.
Hopefully, we can move away from the 'lesser of too evils framework', which implies doing nothing or null ( or the third party equivalent).
There are two spheres left in this election. The 'Liberty' sphere and the 'government glob' sphere. At least Trump will apparently allow Pence to run foreign and domestic affairs while he makes 'America Great Again'. And Pence can influenced by the spirit of Cruz to promote some Liberty and Freedom.
The name of the game is which sphere splinters the least-- we see that The Bern is now down with Hillary-- so the 'Government Glob' sphere is united.
I remain a 'realist' at this level of analysis-- what the overall governing team will look like, including the Supreme Court. Also, success begets success and maybe we have a President Pence or Cruz in 2020 or 2024. Remember, HW Bush was clearly Reagan's third term.
Finally, in the worse case, Trump's authoritarianism could turn out to be more like FDR's. This is at least a bit less catastrophic than the leader from 2*31^2, which FDR admired 'for making the trains run on time'.

The republican response came a day before!
Pence? Seriously. The man couldn't run a pair of pantyhose. Although I bet he's worn a few pair in his life.
At least Trump will apparently allow Pence to run foreign and domestic affairs while he makes 'America Great Again'. And Pence can influenced by the spirit of Cruz to promote some Liberty and Freedom.
I guess I missed it, but where is this thought coming from? Other than the fact it isn't his Constitutional role nor the role of a VP period (unless he is playing tiebreaker in the Senate). This is a Article 1, Section 8 issue and in the end, the President signs the bills if they are passed. Did I miss a promise about this arrangement?
Pence ask.
Pence? Seriously. The man couldn't run a pair of pantyhose. Although I bet he's worn a few pair in his life.
When Kasich’s adviser asked how this would be the case, Donald Jr. explained that his father’s vice president would be in charge of domestic and foreign policy.
Then what, the adviser asked, would Trump be in charge of?
“Making America great again” was the casual reply.
NYT: Trump’s son told Kasich he’d be all but running the administration if he agreed to be Trump’s VP

That's a rather ironic question given that a number of the FRefugees here were part of that gang that supported JR's purge of Giuliani supporters, just as with the Romney purge. That JR suddenly took to Trump pulled the rug out from under them and so many came here to preach about principles and values and condemn anyone who didn't fall in line with their candidate. Just as at FR, they depended on the Hitler and Mussolini analogies over and over again, calling supporters of Trump stupid and LIV, among the nicer names. They started this week ridiculing the convention saying they weren't interested, wouldn't watch it, wouldn't vote for the candidate and hoped the GOP was destroyed in the process. Yet here you are.
While posting thousands of comments condemning Trump, his family and his supporters, they had the balls to question why the Trump supporters weren't going after Hillary! :facepalm2:
Time after time they've asked Trump supporters why they don't go over to FR where they would be welcome. This from a forum that welcomed them openly and without question. Yet the handful of times a Trump supporter questioned why someone was here, the whining began incessantly about these few members trying to take over the forum. This is how it was at TOS...pack-dog warfare on anyone who looked at a candidate not vetted by the far right. So what's left here?
A forum that if any alternate thought is reflected, it must be separated into zones for each idea. The anti-Trump crowd said they would do everything possible to defeat him in the general election, and some have said that they would rather have Hillary as president. And yet they call the Trump supporters delusional and stupid.
Nothing succeeds like success, and you have succeeded in transforming this forum into an anti-Republican, anti-Trump website. A few months ago, the smaller group here making up the forum talked about hoping that one day everyone could shake hands and get back to normal. I haven't heard those sentiments lately. And it's not the fault of the ownership or moderators here. They do the best they can, but what was once considered a personal insult and dealt with, was nothing compared with the outrageous group and personal insults now. It's now little different from the old "Biker Bar" and LF among other such food fight arenas.
I still hope I'm completely wrong because I continue to believe a viable GOP with all of its factions is the only hope for a conservative government. I hope that when the Hillary crowning convention begins next week, the bitterness and hostility that has crowded out any reasonable discussion of candidates this week will be turned on the Democrats in full force. So now, flame away.

I can always tell how well Mr. Trump is doing by listening to his critics. The more you hear them compare Donald Trump to Mussolini and Hitler, the better Trump is doing.
I can tell they’re terrified of Mr. Trump because last night the talking heads were falling over themselves after his acceptance speech trying to outdo each other with their fascism comparisons.
They are so cute flailing about in their barely disguised anger.

Donald Trump (https://www.conservativereview.com/2016-presidential-candidates/candidates/donald-trump) was out for revenge (https://www.conservativereview.com/commentary/2016/07/sore-winner-meltdown-trump-doubles-then-triples-down-on-cruz-attacks) Friday morning against Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas (A, 97%) (https://www.conservativereview.com/members/ted-cruz/liberty-card/) for the speech Cruz gave Wednesday at the Republican Convention in which he did not directly endorse Trump for president.
At one moment in a press conference, Trump specifically took issue with an “added” sentence in the Senator’s speech.
“I knew his speech, they gave me his speech, I saw exactly what his speech was,” Trump said. “Well he got up, and in the first two sentences he added a sentence.”
Mr. Trump said that the added sentence “could have been viewed as a nasty thing, in terms of what he said, because he was implying something—which is wrong—but that’s OK.”
So what was that “nasty” added line in the “first two sentences?”
The text of Cruz’s speech as it was prepared for delivery (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/ted-cruz-speech-full-text_us_579020dfe4b0bdddc4d320b0) was released by the RNC before Cruz took the stage and the first few sentences read:
Now, Time magazine has a transcript (http://time.com/4416741/ted-cruz-trump-rnc-full-transcript/) of Cruz’s delivered remarks, and if we put the “added” sentences in bold it reads:
So, umm, which one of those sentences were “nasty?” Surely it wasn’t “God bless each and every one of you.” Likewise, it couldn’t have been “I am convinced America is going to come back too?"
Was it, “And, like each of you, I want to see the principles that our party believes in prevail in November?”
Trump said he thought it was very “dishonorable” of Sen. Cruz to add one of those sentences, that Cruz was “implying something.”
The closest statement to the Cruz line that elicited boos from the RNC crowd—“vote your conscience”—was “I want to see the principles that our party believes in prevail in November.” So let’s assume that’s what Trump is referring to.
- See more at: https://www.conservativereview.com/commentary/2016/07/trump-is-right-ted-cruz-did-add-a-line-to-his-speech#sthash.GmaG1oJ3.8nRmgREe.dpuf
I think it's because Cruz used big words like prevail and principle. He needed to be more considerate of his audience.
And, like each of you, I want to see the principles that our party believes prevail in November.
If you're not concerned about the fact that the man you support for the office of POTUS gives speeches loaded with Fascist ideas and policies, that just means that you're a Fascist, not that those pointing out that Trump is a Fascist are wrong.

Those who support Cheetoh Messiah...are a completely different zombie. Their influence on society, their hatred, anger, absolute mind washing...wll do more damage to our society, than any of Her Thighness supporters will. Just my $.02
Clinton and her supporters aren't threatening the lives of non-supporters and their families.

I have also compared him to Mussolini the dictator. It fits. Trump said, "I am the only one who can fix this." His whole speech was, "I will" as though he will dictate and it will happen. Decided to take a peek through my facebook feed this morning which is very diverse. Here is a summary of what I saw.The conservatives are no surprise. We have seen that.
Conservatives were very, very split between hating the authortarian attitude to acceptance because he isn't Hillary.
He did the absolute worst among millennials of all political stripes. Politically active on both sides didn't trust him for different reasons.
He seemed to lock in supporters and have some who were on the fence accept to hold their nose because he isn't Hillary. However, he is totally losing the younger vote, even some who liked him before.
Conclusion- I predict no movement in the polls other than normal post convention bounce of around 5 points.
"Fealty" is a word that needs to make a comeback as a reminder of how bad it is.Not just serfs. I had a relative in England, stripped of title and lands for refusing to swear fealty to Henry VIII in all things, secular and sacred. His noncompliance eventually cost him his head.
Fealty is what serfs owed to their lords.
So much for Trump's nonsense on crime:Don't confuse folks with facts. Don't point out the increase in gun ownership and the reduction in crime it would take away from the theory that only Trump can save us.

They see it, they think they will benefit by it and it will never come around to bite them.
They dream of having big teeth and hunting in packs, of turning the tables on any who have wronged them, even by proxy, so they are actually looking forward to granting power to someone who says he will empower them.
Even as they feed their lambs to the pack, they dream of being wolves.
Exactly, so why keep doing the insane thing, and repeating the same choices over and over, expecting different results? It's only getting worse...not any better, at all....and until we put forward ACTUAL CONSERVATIVES, we (i.e. America) will never win.

He said Cruz "didn't do great in the debates against me". Was that the ones Trump skipped or the ones where he dominated the microphone saying things about bleeding out of whatevers?
Well, there IS a lot of space available in there...@Bigun

@RichardJSunkle They think that constitutional conservatism is for suckers and want to play political hardball as obama has. #rulesbedamned
Only for tonight, we have months, God help us, possibly years of this ahead. Can you imagine a Trump Cabinet, it will be constantly changing with "YOUR FIRED" blaring out from behind the doors. How about that. A cabinet with revolving doors! How innovative! (As seen on TV!!) What'll they think of next?
Donald Trump (https://www.conservativereview.com/2016-presidential-candidates/candidates/donald-trump) was out for revenge (https://www.conservativereview.com/commentary/2016/07/sore-winner-meltdown-trump-doubles-then-triples-down-on-cruz-attacks) Friday morning against Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas (A, 97%) (https://www.conservativereview.com/members/ted-cruz/liberty-card/) for the speech Cruz gave Wednesday at the Republican Convention in which he did not directly endorse Trump for president.I was looking at Cruz' speech as delivered, and had trouble figuring out what Trump was gibbering about being so offensive, too. Thanks for laying out the 'delivered' version for comparison. I believe the analysis to be correct. The greatest offense seems to be taken when matters of principle are invoked.

Obammy had Greek columns. Don't deny the Trumpster his WWF style party. It looks like the front plate on a slot machine, only the 'window' is too small.
Agree with the unforced errors. See above, including McEnroe .Sadly, the picks just keep getting worse, imho, farther away from Conservatism and the Constitution.
But McCain was not good enough, Romney/Ryan not good enough and now Trump/Pence is not good enough. Multi-decade pattern forming here..
Maybe our primary base ought to be voting for the candidate that has the greatest intraparty crossover appeal? In essence, vote for the guy who's everybody's number #2 choice.
I think that's just in the same arena as all the other nonsense Trump has to say; the Rafael/LHO "link", etc. No one really cares if it's true or not. I should say, not enough people really care if it's true or not. It's Trump's m.o.It was a great smear, timed to come just before the Northeastern State primaries, in a region where the Kennedys are still looked upon as 'royalty' by many. Like the other smears which were trotted out one or two days before an election or caucus, targeted toward the demographics in the regions involved, and designed to have the maximum negative impact on his opponents, specifically Cruz.
I respectfully disagree. We had a conservative to vote for. We have a values problem and until that problem is overcome an actual conservative will never win.
You wouldn't recognize irony, if it jumped up and bit you on the rump.

Interesting take. People often laugh when they are nervous. I think Pence's political future was going up in flames while he stood there backing that nonsense.

I have little doubt the folks in his marketing department burned the midnight oil and earned yuuge bonuses for their efforts, whether they actually got paid a dime extra (on salary) or not.
http://www.bizpacreview.com/2016/07/22/cnn-probably-regrets-polling-viewers-trumps-rnc-speech-well-wow-368574:silly:
Well, yeh. That goes without saying. I'm just saying, they keep pushing RINO's and non-conservatives on us as our choices and then push the meme that we HAVE to choose the lesser of 2 evils. THAT notion is what my main "insanity" idea was coming from.
The very BEST thing he could do is walk away... Right now.... Whatever 'dog ate my homework' excuse will do.Too many Doctor Peppers....
Actually, I think what most offended Mr. Trump was the line "God bless each and every one of you." I think he probably saw that as a sly implication by Sen. Cruz that The Donald is irreligious. Notice that Mr. Trump finished his speech with a similar line ("God bless you and goodnight! I love you!"), which was not in the prepared remarks as they were released to the media before the speech. At the time he said it I thought it was odd that he didn't go on to say "and God bless the United States of America", as most speakers do when delivering that line at the end of a speech. Perhaps The Donald isn't sure what one is supposed to say when invoking God? :pondering:You may be right. He gets bent over references to principles and The Almighty.
That's what I think anyway.
Then they're all idiots for shooting at the wrong target.Oh I agree, but the Marketing Department works for Trump. Those are his people, and if they like their jobs, they'll do what the boss says. (For all I know, though, he hired outside people for the campaign, but it would make sense to use in-house assets when he could charge those to the campaign at a profit).
The very BEST thing he could do is walk away... Right now.... Whatever 'dog ate my homework' excuse will do.
Oh, it's too bad. I have this malevolent wart on my small left toe that forces me to drop out of the ticket.
"I'm sooo sorry but the protracted recovery time for my emergency hangnail surgery will inevitably cause me to be unable to fulfill my duties to the campaign... For that unfortunate reason..."
Trump farted, but for some reason, the stench is not dissipating. I can't get within 100 feet of him without getting violently ill. For that reason, I am dropping out so that someone else can breathe his fragrance.
Maybe our primary base ought to be voting for the candidate that has the greatest intraparty crossover appeal? In essence, vote for the guy who's everybody's number #2 choice.
It was a typical Trump speech except it was organized and coherent because of the teleprompters. He did a good job with problem identification and hit the theme of "I'm with You to make America great" repeatedly. He was forceful and focused.
He really lit into Hillary which I think was useful in this "Hobson's Choice" type election. She cannot be President.
I just really disagree with his trade policy views and I don't remember him even mentioning the Constitution. And, I'm hoping that Ivanka doesn't have too much policy influence on him because her agenda would have played well to the delegates next week in Philadelphia. I sat throughout her speech shaking my head a bit because all I saw in her "women's issues" was more Fed interference in private businesses.
It was a very good night for the Trump fans and I think it will have struck a resonant chord with apolitical, middle class folks who have really seen their economic and physical security compromised under the 8 feckless and treacherous years of Obama. He certainly made the case for #NeverHillary. But he did very little to assuage Constitutional Conservatives that he has any program that doesn't require the maintenance of our burdensome, over-reaching Federal Government. He did NOTHING to assuage Social Conservatives - his will be a socially liberal Administration.
You can tell from the discussion in this thread he did nothing to change the commitment of Cruz/Constitutional conservatives to their #NeverTrump vows.
Time will tell I guess how this night plays out in the larger picture.
Interesting take. People often laugh when they are nervous. I think Pence's political future was going up in flames while he stood there backing that nonsense.
Here is an example of Trumpian progressivism I just had sent to me on twitter.Wow. Too bad they want the impossible. Setting up a king will never make you free.
These are people who have fully embraced ends justify the means progressivism and are completely lost to any kind of constitutional conservatism. I've long warned that using progressive tactis was a double edged sword.
Good review. This is the most objective assessment so far.
Hope you are right that Trump pulls it off, even though he is an imperfect vessel.

“I never thought I’d say these words, but Ted Cruz was right...in this election, do the right thing and vote your conscience.” —Hillary
At least the democrats have a candidate who represents the corrupt, rotten principles for which they stand. They can vote their conscience, because they believe in the lies and drivel Hillary spouts.

Yep. there is lots of space, but you need to get the HAZMAT cleanup team in there beforehand.
@billva
Your guy is the nominee. Why in the hell are you people still so angry?
I suspect it's because there are people who refuse to bend their knee to your messiah and the rest of those registered Democrats who filled the stage last night. Well, you're going to have to get used to it.
I am not and was not last night angry. That you see me that way is because from the Never Trump view, people who are always angry, you think others are.
I was not angry last night, am not angry right now, in fact I am very happy.
The angry ones are the ones who spend 45 pages seeing who can make the most outrageous, angry statements about Bush. Then rushing to agree with and try to out do the next angry outrageous statement about Trump by another poster.
In fact not only do I find it ridiculous but kind of humorous.
:)

Whoops... you need to update your cut & paste file there fella. Angry statements about "Bush" is so 2000, don't you know. Well, to give benefit of the doubt... maybe 2004. ^-^

And Hillary is not so STUPID as to continue to attack Bernie.
Two things, if this were true then what Ted said wouldn't stick in your craw like it so deliciously and very apparently does. And, that's a sad statement on your collective consciences.

Someone needs to believe their own side's position, Ted is irrelevant, his career is over, he's done. Hell their own Presidential nominee has said that he doesn't need or want Ted's endorsement, would not accept it if Ted gave it and yet they still can't evict him from their heads. What is Trump likes to say( I know there are so many), oh yeah "So, sad".

(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CoBC_OVW8AAPl_8.jpg)I think politifact has some bias if you check HRC's credibility. Either that or she really doesn't remember.
Cruz is truly done and I would be so glad to let him go, but then I see a 45 page topic that keeps blowing up Lying Ted's qualifications and I started doing a little research and find the view of the bigger picture in the country is just the opposite so I put up a few cartoons. If it bothered you then I am so sorry.Cruz is far from done. He'll easily get reelected to the senate. By then Trump will be but a footnote in history.

Why would it matter to you if a group of people talk about Ted in a positive manner, unless of course because the same group speaks of Trump in a negative manner. But again if said group is as irrelevant and unnecessary to the election of Trump, why bother with them? Wouldn't it be more productive for you folk, and I include Trump in that since he seems to still think he's running against Cruz, to be attacking Hillary and her supporters?

Oh, he's everybody's #2 alright...(http://www.sherv.net/cm/emo/funny/1/shit-emoticon.gif)
Ted and Trump will never work it out because Trump is a petulant man-child.
If Trump was at all savvy, he would have said, "I want to thank Ted Cruz for his ringing endorsement. The GOP voters know they can count on me to uphold all of the values Ted espoused in his beautiful and soaring speech. I reviewed Ted's speech ahead of time and knew that when Ted said, 'Vote your conscience," he was talking about voting for Trump/Pence in 2016. What else would he have been talking about?"
If he had done that, the whole thing would have blown over. Instead, the man-child comes out and starts immediately talking about Raphael and Oswald again.
Because he's small.

The RNC worked hard to make sure the RNC convention rules weren’t reset at the convention on Monday, but their reasoning wasn’t about protecting Trump from possible threats against his nomination. Rather, it was about trying to keep Ted Cruz from becoming the nominee in 2020!

Yes, the GOPe isn't afraid of DT, in fact they're embracing him, but Cruz on the other hand: like a crucifix to a vampire! If Trump wasn't part of the GOP establishment, they just handed him the key to the executive washroom.

@LonestarDream, what "it" is there to work out, exactly? Trump attacked the man's wife and his father. And just yesterday, he went off on Cruz AGAIN, even threatening to create a superpac to destroy him.I get the feeling that Trump is still going after the kid who kicked his ass on the playground in the 4th grade. There were 3 days between the end of the GOP convention and the start of the Democratic convention. There were e-mails released. There is a plethora of Hillary crap. Donald is still fixated on Cruz. This guy is not qualified to be the President's cook. You have to think about tomorrow's meal.
Seriously, why do you think Cruz should or would want to "work it out" with this piece of slime? To hell with him.

I think that's an accurate assessment. Trump can't stand the fact that Cruz faced him down in public and refuses to bend his knee. He's just not used to that kind of treatment.
At the same time Trump is all butthurt over Cruz breaking that idiotic pledge he squealing for Bernie Sanders to do the same.
He's a certifiable lunatic.
At least.
