Idaho bar sparks fury for declaring  June 'Heterosexual Awesomeness Month' and giving free beers and 15% discounts to straight men

•   Old State Saloon to give all straight men one free beer on Mondays in June

•   The bar is celebrating 'Heterosexual Awesomeness Month' during Pride Month

•   The announcement got heavy criticism but also got some praise from patrons

An Idaho bar has opted to counter LGBTQ Pride Month by celebrating 'Heterosexual Awesomeness Month' during the month of June, saying that without them 'none of us would be here.'

Old State Saloon in Eagle, Idaho, which is just outside of Boise, announced this past Wednesday that each Monday would be 'Hetero Male Monday.'

Any man dressed 'like a heterosexual male' will be entitled to a free draught beer, according to a Facebook post from the bar.

In a subsequent comment, the bar also said it was seeking applicants to judge if male patrons that come on Mondays have straight enough clothing - who will be paid $15 an hour plus a free beer.

Not only that, but any straight couple that comes into the bar on Wednesdays will get 15 percent off their tab.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, the 74-year-old longtime Texas Democrat announced Sunday night.

The big picture: Jackson Lee announced in a statement posted to X that she's undergoing treatment for a disease "that impacts tens of thousands of Americans every year."

•   The Congressional Black Caucus member who sponsored legislation that resulted in Junteeth being established as a federal holiday noted she "will be occasionally absent from Congress" as she receives treatment.

•   But Jackson Lee added that she's "committed to working with our Congressional Leadership including Leader Hakeem Jeffries and the Speaker of House to serve this nation and be present for votes on legislation that is critical for the prosperity and security of the American people."

The recent judicial travesty and farce that occurred in my state must not be tolerated, namely, the case of The People of the State of New York v. Donald J. Trump, Indictment #71543-23.

From the time it began to when the jury delivered its verdict, the case accumulated a plethora of reversible errors made by “Acting” Justice Juan Merchan of the Supreme Court of New York, County of New York.

The “Acting” Justice of the New York State Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of New York, Juan Merchan, adjudicated the case aforementioned.  Established court policy of the Unified Court System of New York is to assign cases to Justices on a revolving basis and in a random manner.  A very important fact is that as an “Acting Justice” Merchan was not on the roster of Justices from which Jurists were to be chosen.

How, then, did Merchan become the “chosen-at-random” jurist to oversee no fewer than three (3) Trump-related cases?  This is but one of the plethora of reversible errors in the instant case.

Merchan is in violation of the New York Compilation of Rules and Regulations, Title 22, Section 100.5, which reads, in relevant part:

Texas / Seven Indicted in Houston Public Corruption Scheme

Texas Scorecard by  Charles Blain May 31, 2024

Mayor John Whitmire vowed to work with any agency to identify and remove corruption as his administration moves forward.

On Friday, Mayor John Whitmire and outgoing Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced seven people have been indicted for 14 public corruption felonies ranging from abuse of official capacity to tampering with evidence. The charges are related to a scheme surrounding the City of Houston’s water repair contracts.

Patrece Lee, the lead defendant, and a former city employee, had access to $80 million of city funds for emergency waterline repair.

In the Summer and Fall of 2022, Lee was in a position to recommend vendors for contracts with the City of Houston public works department to repair the water lines. Lee allegedly made agreements with companies to have them hire her as a “consultant” to receive a kickback in exchange for expedited payments and bigger contracts. She also targeted less experienced companies and offered her services to help them “get paid faster, or to get bigger and better contracts in the future” as well.

Lee allegedly received roughly $320,000 in payments from that scheme and then steered contracts to a company owned by her brother, allowing them to be paid more than $400,000 of which she immediately transferred $380,000 to her own company. The total amount she stole from the city was $700,000.

Unaccompanied minors are representing themselves in immigration court, alarming advocates
In 2023, only 56% of unaccompanied minors were represented by counsel.

Politicians are divided on immigration reform, as a record number...Show More
When Brian Arevalo arrived at immigration court earlier this year, the stakes -- possible deportation -- could not have been higher. But that morning in April, when he faced a federal immigration judge, he faced a more pressing concern.

"Did you find an attorney?" Judge Dinesh Verma asked him.

Arevalo, now 18, shook his head no. He had been searching in vain for legal representation for months -- one of tens of thousands of unaccompanied young migrants representing themselves before federal immigration judges, and one of dozens who appeared before Judge Verma that day in Hyattsville, Maryland.

Arevalo, who was granted a three-month extension, is due back in court in June. He says he has not yet found an attorney.

Claudia Sheinbaum, a climate scientist and former mayor of Mexico City, won her nation’s elections on Sunday in a landslide victory that brought a double milestone: She became the first woman, and the first Jewish person, to be elected president of Mexico.

Early results indicated that Ms. Sheinbaum, 61, prevailed in what the authorities called the largest election in Mexico’s history, with the highest number of voters taking part and the most seats up for grabs.

It was a landmark vote that saw not one, but two, women vying to lead one of the hemisphere’s biggest nations. And it will put a Jewish leader at the helm of one of the world’s largest predominantly Catholic countries.

Ms. Sheinbaum, a leftist, campaigned on a vow to continue the legacy of Mexico’s current president and her mentor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which delighted their party’s base — and raised alarm among detractors. The election was seen by many as a referendum on his leadership, and her victory was a clear vote of confidence in Mr. López Obrador and the party he started.

Mr. López Obrador has completely reshaped Mexican politics. During his tenure, millions of Mexicans were lifted out of poverty and the minimum wage doubled. But he has also been a deeply polarizing president, criticized for failing to control rampant cartel violence, for hobbling the nation’s health system and for persistently undercutting democratic institutions.

Still, Mr. López Obrador remains widely popular and his enduring appeal propelled his chosen successor. And for all the challenges facing the country, the opposition was unable to persuade Mexicans that their candidate was a better option.

“We love her, we want her to work like Obrador,” Gloria Maria Rodríguez, 78, from Tabasco, said of Ms. Sheinbaum. “We want a president like Obrador.”

Ms. Sheinbaum won with at least 58.3 percent of the vote, according to preliminary results, while her closest competitor, Xóchitl Gálvez, an entrepreneur and former senator on a ticket with a coalition of opposition parties, had at least 26.6 percent.

If early returns hold, Ms. Sheinbaum will have captured a broader share of the vote than any candidate in decades.

Speaking to supporters early Monday, Ms. Sheinbaum vowed to work on behalf of all Mexicans, reaffirmed her party’s commitment to democracy and celebrated her groundbreaking ascension to the nation’s highest office.

“For the first time in 200 years of the republic, I will become the first female president of Mexico,” she said. “And as I have said on other occasions, I do not arrive alone. We all arrived, with our heroines who gave us our homeland, with our ancestors, our mothers, our daughters and our granddaughters.”
