Simone Biles’ Olympic Retreat Leaves Sponsors in the Lurch

U.S. gymnast Simone Biles ‘ hasty and unexpected retreat from the Tokyo Olympics has left a list of sponsors coming up short this week.
On Tuesday, USA Gymnastics announced that the 24-year-old Biles had removed herself from competition “in order to focus on her mental health.”
However, as the world’s top gymnast headed to the locker room, she also sunk the hopes of a list of sponsors who hoped to cash in on her great Olympics success.
At least one of those sponsors quickly came out to support Biles in her quest for mental health.
“We stand by Simone and support her well-being both in and out of competition,” said Kyle Andrew, Chief Brand Officer of women’s sportswear maker Athleta. “Being the best also means knowing how to take care of yourself. We are inspired by her leadership today and are behind her every step of the way.”

Biles was in a no-win situation.
Either she spits on the flag like the Black Racists want her to (which would put her in trouble with most of America)
Or she respects the ceremony and the flag as normal (which would put her in trouble with the powerful Black Racist movement)
She had no 'out', except to withdraw and to do neither. That is why she left.

IMO, she saw the level of competition to win any medal and knew in her head AND heart she wasn't prepared.

To me the praise she is getting is preparing the ground for the acceptance of the USA quitting in the upcoming war with China.

Joe Biden and his feckless team and cowardly Congressmen will never go to war with China, no matter what.
Half or more of the people in Washington D.C. owe their entire career and their wealth to China.
China owns Congress and all of D.C. They will never go to war with their boss.
And even if America did go to war with China, the only people left in the American Military are pansy "woke" sissies like Milley.
Would not be much of a 'fight'.

Woke But Not Broke: Sponsors Praise Simone Biles After Withdrawal

Simone Biles’ sponsors, including Athleta and Visa, are lauding her decision to put her mental health first and withdraw from the gymnastics team competition during the Olympics.
It’s the latest example of sponsors praising athletes who are increasingly open about mental health issues. Tennis star Naomi Osaka found widespread support when she withdrew from the French Open earlier this year.
Biles could still compete in other gymnastic events during the Olympics. She also has a solid history of gymnastic accomplishments, including four gold medals and a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics. She has earned five more all-around titles in world championships since 2013. That earns the 24-year-old a lasting athletic legacy that sponsors can capitalize on.
“We are past the time when athletes like Simone are valued simply for their athletic prowess,” said Jim Andrews, founder of A-Mark Partnership Strategies. “She has earned a place in gymnastics history, and has proven herself to be an amazing spokesperson and influencer who has much to offer brands even without competing and eventually in retirement.”
Biles split with longtime sponsor Nike in April to sign with Athleta, the athletic clothing arm of Gap. Biles’ deal with Athleta also includes sponsorship of the Gold Over America victory tour later this year, which will star her as well as other USA Gymnastics team members.

Many people sympathetic to Bile's actions say she fears getting hurt, and who are you to say anything negative about her actions, you poor athlete you? What have you ever accomplished?
Well, nothing like what Biles had accomplished, but by using that argument 99.999% of the people can never criticize any athlete because only a tiny percent of the population are good enough to reach the pinnacle of achievement like Biles and other Olympic athletes.
You can't criticize the actions of any good athlete then by that argument. Can't criticize a poor meal at a restaurant if you can't cook. Can't criticize a lousy modern art painting if you can't paint. Etcetera, etcetera.
The facts are no male fan would tolerate another male athlete pulling a stunt like what Biles did.
I've never heard of any similar actions by any other athlete at this stage of the most prestigious international athletic competition in the world.
Imagine Tom Brady saying right before the SB that he just couldn't handle the pressure and wouldn't be playing in the game.
But since she's a woman, she gets a break, I guess. So much for "I am invincible, hear me roar" woman.

Of course they are - publically. In the privacy of their offices, you can bet they're peeved, but they don't want to be perceived as racist.

Agree. Everyone was calling her ‘the best of all time’, yet she was about to be beat. So she bailed rather than risking a decisive defeat in front of the world. She gets to keep her title.
