Pelosi says she will talk infrastructure with Trump next week
By Cristina Marcos - 04/23/19 05:11 PM EDT
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Tuesday that she plans to meet with President Trump next week to discuss infrastructure legislation, seen as one of the few areas of potential bipartisan compromise.
"We'll be meeting with the president next week when we come back to talk about what the prospect is for the size in terms of resources and scope of what that might be," Pelosi said at the Time 100 summit.
Pelosi said that infrastructure and reducing the cost of prescription drugs are two places where she sees hope for agreement with the White House.
"In our conversations at the staff level and my conversations with him, I think we can find a path to do that," Pelosi said of talks on reducing prescription drug prices. "So there are two that I'm very about optimistic we could accomplish."

Why should there be any tax increases? Just add it to the deficit, that's what they've been doing for years.

Leave your suggestions in the box by the door, Madame Weirdo.

That’s probably what they would do, but Trump has previously proposed a 25-50 cent gas tax to fund the plan.

Count on it. An increase in the gas tax for infrastructure. The most I can hope for is that my increased taxes actually go for roads 'n bridges.

Jazz, you know better than that.
“The bureaucracy is expanding to meet the needs of the expanding bureaucracy.†Oscar Wilde
By my guesstimate, less than half of those new taxes will go to actual construction. The bureaucracy will take most of it.

Bike Trails and Pedestrian Bridges usually get a good sized piece of the action.

Jazz, you know better than that.
Unfortunately, I do. And that portion of new taxes that actually goes to roads will be shot through with "worker protections" aimed to benefit the Dems' union cronies.

Need to have jobs for all the illegals that have come in recent months.

Does anyone think that this time will be different than obummer dumping $800B in 2009 on infrastructure?

Eisenhower got the interstates built for @ $27B in the 50/60's if I'm not mistaken.

Obama's $800B was mostly to prop up state and local governments, and their teat-feeding unions. There's a right way and a wrong way to do infrastructure.

True. Very little, if any of that $800B went to building stuff. It went to the government Unions pensions.

It was also used by the rats as their slush fund (like for bribes to enemy nations) to further undermine America as founded, and to buy more rat votes. If they really cared about infrastructure, they would have done something during those eight years. It's just another leftist lie they resurrect every time a Republican gets in the WH. The only ones buying into it are the stuckonstupid uninformed and ignorant Democrat constituents.

Also, high-speed choo choo and airports that no one uses.

To them if we aren't spending money on trains then no money is being spent on infrastructure.

If I am not mistaken, that $800B has been permanently in their fake "non Budget" spending bills ever since.
I heard that Pelosi was thinking about a $2 Trillion dollar plan as an opener.

The last time Trump talked to Pelosi things worked out so well. They could write a book together; "How to Screw the American People and Destroy the Country".
-
To them if we aren't spending money on trains then no money is being spent on infrastructure.
Silly you...that's why AOC's Green Deal is so perfect. No trains! No worries.

Every person (like me) who takes the train to work means one less car on the road. Less wear and tear on roads, less aggravation for motorists stuck in jams.

No trains? That's not what I read.

As for getting across continents... I figured that part out. The elitist leftists will be the only ones that will be allowed to fly jets from one continent to another. The rest of us, the peons, will be restricted from such travel.... even if we could afford it, which we wouldn't be able to... once the idiot left gets done "fundamentally transforming" Americaduh. It's the leftist totalitarian way, after all.

Sure, but does your cost of train ticket contribute to fund that pays for trains?
Real question, I don't know the answer. What it the gasoline tax equivalent?
-

We didn't have Federal funds last time and I assume a new package won't this time either. Besides, we use our own funds because there are too many strings attached to Federal funds.
I do object to having those funds spent on chh choos and trike trails.

Real question is how much of his train ride is subsidized by the rest of us, because there is no way the price of the tickets covers the real cost.

@thackney
Well I sure as heck don't know the answer either, but more and more electric cars probably means less gas tax.

I didn't know we were arguing.
I should have started with "That is a mighty fine point." happy77

I know you, you would! If I ever made one. I'm not a very serious poster most days.

It was a good point. I interpreted it as "if people have money, government will find a way to take it," and that is true.

There you go... what's $100 billion difference per year, every year amongst friends? Especially when everyone is having fun!
(This must be why all our of highways, bridges, and tunnels are all in tippy top shape now!)

Before anybody passes out from the vapors, y’all know Donald Trump was a builder, right? He worked for a living, unlike most presidents who went to Harvard law and spent their careers in politics. He knows exactly how much construction costs are—the real costs, private sector costs—and they are not the same as bloated government contractor costs.
If bridges and roads are aging out (and they are) Trump’s background and his experience negotiating construction deals should result in some cost savings. He knows how inflated construction contracts are in the states, especially as compared to other countries where governments pay actual costs.
So whatever amount of infrastructure spending is budgeted, I expect at minimum we get our monies worth from this president.
