You have to watch the entire exchange.

This post forced such a sudden and powerful laugh out of me it came out as coughing. I will probably be thinking about it for the rest of the day!

A global Carbon Currency would be a wonder-tool for Bankers, Bureaucrats and Crooks

Carbon markets, carbon trading, climate money, burning carbon credit image. Jo Nova. The idea that we could make “a carbon credit” work as an international currency and fix our weather at the same time, is the stuff of  Econo-alchemy.

It’s where a scientific quagmire marries an economic fairy.  Instead of salvation we get the swamp to end all swamps.  It doesn’t give power to the people or produce an honest mode of exchange or stop the storms either. A carbon currency just feeds corruption and centralized unaccountable unelected committees who play power-brokers and Kingmakers, deciding what is and what isn’t a real “right” and who or what should pay. It serves global bankers who broker the transactions. It is the paper currency from hell.

Where do we start? A bar of carbon “rights” is not a bar of gold
How do we weigh a “carbon right”? Every nation on Earth knows what a gram of gold is, and with 2,500 years of trading history, everyone knows that come the apocalypse, they can still swap gold for goods.

What sort of security is backed by the right to emit one unit of carbon dioxide,  a right that all life on Earth and most of the rocks and water already has? The largest consumer of carbon rights is the Pacific Ocean on a warm day. Should we set up an account for it in Geneva? Do the territorial seas around a nation produce or consume carbon rights? What about the coral reefs, the trees, the bark, the bacteria? Says who? We cannot measure it, so it’s all modeling. May the biggest cheats win and UN Gatekeepers rule the world.

The problem with using a ubiquitous molecule as an exchange of value is manifold — either every molecule is in the market or the new Global Emperor decides what is and what isn’t and everyone bows, grovels or bribes Zir or Zat Ruler to get what they want. There’s no intrinsic way to know if the molecules being counted are “in” the market or out; the biggest players in the market can’t play, and perverse incentives are everywhere like spaghetti.

A global carbon currency would be instantly prone to massive rorting, corruption, and political whimsy.

EUROPEANS ARE WAKING UP TO THE GLOBAL WARMING RORT

By Cliff Reece

The PVV (Party for Freedom) led by Geert Wilders (pictured above) emerged victorious in a seismic election in the Netherlands last week that resulted in fears from left-wing climate activists’ groups that it will adversely impact on the country’s global warming objectives.

The party is projected to win 37 seats in the 150 seat Dutch parliament, putting it in the driver’s seat to form a new government.

“We are shocked,” Extinction Rebellion Netherlands says. “This outcome will likely mean a rollback of climate measures, new fossil investments, exclusion of marginalised groups, and more.”

Friends of the Earth Netherlands spelled out what PVV’s rule could mean for Dutch society: “A Wilders government will mean four years of climate change denial, exclusion and a breakdown of the rule of law.”

Their concerns are based on the PVV manifesto which declares: “We have been made to fear climate change for decades… we must stop being afraid!”

“The climate is always changing. When conditions change, we adapt. We do this through sensible water management, by raising dykes when necessary and by making room for the river.”

Concerns about exploding electric vehicles are increasing

Screenshot.

By Chris Morrison

Safety concerns around electric vehicles continue to grow, with Australian Fire and Rescue Services in New South Wales claiming they may have to "tactically withdraw" from a trapped car crash victim if the battery is likely to explode. Australian journalist Jo Nova reported on the story, which was first mentioned  in the EV blog  The Driven ,  and noted :

“They say first responders need more training, as if this can be solved with a certificate, but the hard truth is they are talking about training firefighters and truck drivers to recognize when to stop the rescue.”

The Driven , a widely read blog that appears to be very sympathetic to the rollout of electric vehicles, reported on recent testimony given in the NSW government's electric and hybrid vehicle battery inquiry. The writer suggested that emergency workers were not adequately trained to deal with electric vehicle collisions, and that in the most serious cases crews could be forced to abandon rescue efforts. One specific concern was the need to quickly free a trapped victim after an accident by dragging the person out in a "very undesirable manner". Fire is a major risk in any car accident, but can be quickly controlled in an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle.

Is the move to electric cars running out of power?

Buoyant electric car sales are a must if we're to hit our climate targets. But EV sales in the West are down and if governments want them to recover it may have to be at the expense of their own economies.

The numbers
Any motorway driver will know the feeling: you're cruising along, miles of open road seemingly ahead and then from nowhere, a slowdown.

Something similar has hit the electric vehicle market in 2024. After years of soaring sales, growth appears to be stalling.

Replacing fossil-fuel-powered cars with EVs is central to the UK government's plan to meet its climate goals - road transport accounting for 12% of planetary emissions.

The question is whether this is a blip that will soon disappear into the rear-view mirror, or is this going to prove more enduring? And if it lasts, will governments have the stomach to do what it takes to keep the net zero show on the road?

The Carbon Capture Con
By Viv Forbes -- May 17, 2024

“Pumping gases underground is only sensible if it brings real benefits such as using waste gases to increase oil recovery from declining oil fields – frack the strata, pump in CO2, and force out oil/gas.”

Carbon-capture-and-underground-storage “(CCUS)” tops the list of silly schemes “to reduce man-made global warming”. The idea is to capture exhaust gases from power stations or cement plants, separate the CO2 from the other gases, compress it, pump it to the chosen burial site and force it underground into permeable rock formations. Then hope it never escapes.

An Australian mining company who should know better is hoping to appease green critics by proposing to bury the gas of life, CO2, deep in the sedimentary rocks of Australia’s Great Artesian Basin.

They have chosen the Precipice Sandstone for their carbon cemetery. However, the chances of keeping CO2 gas confined in this porous sandstone are remote. This formation has a very large area of outcrop to the surface and gas will escape somewhere, so why bother forcing it into a jail with no roof?

Lancet Report On Temperature-Related Deaths Contradicts Its Own Study
by Paul Homewood  9 hours ago

Yes, it’s the annual fraudulent Lancet report on climate change! Via The Telegraph: [emphasis, links added]

New diseases are spreading, the hayfever season is starting earlier and even the hours in which it is possible to practise sports are changing.

The common denominator behind all these and other changes to human health is climate change.

A new report in the Lancet has found that warming temperatures in Europe have far-reaching impacts on health.

It tracks the links between climate change and health across the region, exploring 42 indicators.

Science Should Undergird America’s Energy Choices, Not Lobbyists
by John Droz Jr.  9 hours ago

The fundamental fight over enacting effective energy policies is between lobbyists and the public. (A parallel perspective is that it is a contest between real science and political science.) [emphasis, links added]

Lobbyists are paid to represent their clients’ economic interests or political agendas. The public consists of citizens, businesses, and the military.

Lobbyists are professionals who spend most of their time soliciting legislators on their client’s behalf. See this interesting new book about lobbyists.

The obvious question is: “Who is balancing out this one-sided influence by competently and aggressively representing the public’s interests on energy policies (and other important issues)?  The unfortunate answer is almost no one.

Liberal bluestate response. It is a crisis we really can't do much.

Fl Response.  “I would tell them, if you value your life, they probably shouldn’t do that in Polk County. Because the people of Polk County like guns, they have guns, I encourage them to own guns, and they’re going to be in their homes tonight with their guns loaded, and if you try to break into their homes to steal, to set fires, I’m highly recommending they blow you back out of the house with their guns.

Cycles in Earth’s Climate – Part 1: The Trend Setters
22 hours ago

Richard Willoughby

Introduction

The emergence of the Isthmus of Panama, starting around 5Ma, due to uplift of the Caribbean plate was a major event in Earth’s recent climate history.  It altered the depth of cyclic glaciation, which resulted in oceans being 138m deeper than the present level 23,000 years ago.  This article looks at the cycles that drive the climate trends that create glaciation and interglacials.  Chart 1 provides the reconstructed temperature history based on EPICA Dome C and the Spratt 800kyr sea level reconstruction over the past 800kyr.

Chart 1 also shows the top of the atmosphere (ToA) solar electro-magnetic radiation (EMR) for July at 15N (left hand scale).  The basic frequency of the solar EMR is 23kyr corresponding to what is termed Earth’s axial precession cycle, which is modulated by eccentricity of the orbit around the sun and axial obliquity,  Over the last 1Myr, eccentricity has exhibited  a period of 89kyr and obliquity  a period of 39kyr.

Fourier Transform of Temperature and Sea level Histories

Fourier transformation of time based data transforms the data from the time domain to the corresponding frequency domain to tease out the significant cyclic components in the data.  Chart 2 displays the frequency components inherent in the change in sea level for the sea level shown in Chart 1.

There are three period peaks in the frequency domain.  The two shorter periods, 23.3kyr and 39.4kyr align reasonably well with precession and obliquity cycles.  The peak at 102.3kyr is a little longer than the period of eccentricity in the present era.  It is noted here that the time interval for the sea level data is 1kyr with 512 data points so the resolution for longer periods is quite poor.
