Boston hospital set to offer 'preferential care based on race'

| April 08, 2021 08:29 AM A Boston hospital says it will offer “preferential care based on race†and “race-explicit interventions†in an attempt to engage in an “antiracist agenda for medicine†based on critical race theory.
A Boston Review article titled “An Antiracist Agenda for Medicine†lays out a plan from Brigham and Women’s Hospital that implements a “reparations framework†for distributing medical resources in order to “comprehensively confront structural racism."
“Together with a coalition of fellow practitioners and hospital leaders, we have developed what we hope will be a replicable pilot program for direct redress of many racial health care inequities,†Harvard Medical School instructors Bram Wispelwey and Michelle Morse wrote in the article. ...
“Offering preferential care based on race or ethnicity may elicit legal challenges from our system of colorblind law … We encourage other institutions to proceed confidently on behalf of equity and racial justice, with backing provided by recent White House executive orders,†the authors explain in a reference to recent executive orders signed by President Joe Biden. ...

Supposedly, it was just a suggestion by these two doctors. The hospital reportedly told the Washington Examiner in a statement that the article is an "opinion piece written by two physicians, not a formal position of the hospital."

Federal laws prohibit discrimination based on a person's national origin, race, color, religion, disability, sex, and familial status. Should be easy money in the lawsuits that follow.

... I mean, props for basically admitting what they are doing is illegal, I guess. It’ll shock no one to learn this is the brain-child of two Harvard graduates because there’s perhaps no more culturally damaging an institution in our country than that dumpster fire of a university and influence hub.
Hospitals have typically pointed charity at people based on general attributes such as income level. By doing so based on race, they are perpetuating racism themselves. They are also acknowledging they may pass over more needy individuals in worse situations in order to fill racial quotas for their “reparations†program. It’s just a bad strategy all the way around.
As to the hospital’s accusations of systemic racism leading to a lack of care for minorities necessitating their own racism, it’d be nice if they’d actually cited some examples. Instead, we are stuck with the same nebulous language we always get. Is the argument about cost? Because you don’t need a racially based system to give care to poor people. Is it about discrimination? What are their recent examples? Was their hospital discriminating against black people and turning them away at the door? If so, couldn’t they just stop? ...

The proposal, published in Boston Review, accuses hospitals across the country of practicing "medical apartheid"—something they said must be addressed through "race-explicit interventions."
Those interventions may violate civil rights laws, and Brigham and Women's Hospital assured the Washington Free Beacon that they are "not currently underway at the hospital." That hasn't stopped one of its authors, Dr. Michelle Morse, from moving on up: She is now the chief medical officer of New York City.
In her new post, Morse will wield enormous influence over New York's hospital system, and she has promised to use it to "advance health equity." Part of her job will be serving as a liaison between the health department and local medical centers, including three she singled out as examples of "apartheid": Montefiore, New York-Presbyterian, and Mount Sinai. She was also named the deputy commissioner for the Center for Health Equity and Community Wellness, a division within the New York City health department. ...
Morse's ascent reflects the larger trajectory of progressive activism, which has migrated from the fringe of academia to the heart of public health bureaucracies. Vermont's health department announced this month that people of color will get first dibs on the coronavirus vaccine as a part of the state's commitment to "health equity." And in December, the Centers for Disease Control proposed vaccinating essential workers before the elderly because the elderly skew white.
Morse's march through the institutions—from foundations to fellowships and finally to a top government post—reveals how radicalism gains influence. Supported by an incestuous network of left-wing nonprofits that credentialize activists and funnel them into positions of power, activists like Morse use studies funded by those same nonprofits to give their agenda a veneer of scientific credibility. And since the nonprofits combine charity with activism, it is easy for them to launder the latter as the former, further insulating them from critique. ...

Morse's entire notion negates progress, the concept of triage, of those who most urgently need care getting that care first. We never cared what color accident victims were when we helped load them on the chopper for Shocktrauma when I was a fireman in the 1970s. The least hurt were transported by ambulance. It didn't matter, everyone bleeds red.
But the groundwork has been laid for this by Obamacare and Medicaid, with those who often cannot afford their own insurance providing medical care for those who are "underprivileged" (at gunpoint, ultimately--try not paying your taxes).
