School Board Mocks Parents Who Support Reopening: 'They Want Their Babysitters Back'

A northern California school board discussed ways to limit the public's ability to speak at meetings and mocked parents who desperately want schools to reopen.
"They want their babysitters back," Lisa Brizendine, a trustee of Oakley Union Elementary School District, told her colleagues during a pre-meeting session that they believed was not open to the public.
School board member Kim Beede mentioned a negative interaction with some frustrated parents? a frustrated parent, then described her own mindset: "Bitch, if you are going to call me out, I am going to bleep you up."
Another member of the board theorized that parents want their kids to go back to school so they can spend the day getting high.

Oakley is a small-medium sized city of ~44K in the Sacramento River Delta area. I wish I could say that I think this kind of attitude is rare among school boards, but I can't, especially among union-owned board members.

That was not said by teachers. It was said by school board members. So the school board not only denigrated students' parents, but also the teachers in the district.

This seems like a shame — a shame that it didn’t include the resignation of the entire board. Oakley’s school board made national news when a parent recorded what members thought was a private conversation, and captured the board’s contempt for parents anxious to get their children back in school. Board president Lisa Brizendine resigned last night after declaring that parents only “want their baby sitters backâ€:

Just on incompetence alone, the rest of the board should follow Brizendine out the door. One has to believe that the unmasked contempt will likely be more of the catalyst at this point. Or at least we should hope something pushes these petty brahmins into heading for the exit on their own rather than getting the heave-ho from the parents they clearly despise. And make no mistake, those parents are looking for the quickest way to run off the rest of the board:

All members of a California school district board resigned this past week after disparaging comments they made about parents came to light.
The remarks from Oakley Union Elementary School District Board members ranged from accusing parents of considering teachers their “babysitters†to “If you’re gonna call me out, I’m gonna f*** you up.â€
Good riddance! Hope Oakley can set up a special election by June (earlier?).

I agree. There's probably at least half that take pride in their profession, and deal with what is an awful unthanking job.
