St. Louis County mother furious after being arrested for consoling son

(KMOV) – A mother trying to pick her special needs son up from school winds up in handcuffs and puts the school on lockdown.
The furious mother came to News 4 claiming the school handled things all wrong.
The incident took place at Walnut Groves Elementary School on Thursday when the mother came to help her son.
“I was lying in bed when I received a frantic phone call from the teacher, Michael was panicking,” said Niakea Williams.
Michael is Williams’ son and he suffers from Asperger’s syndrome.
After getting the call, Williams came up the Ferguson - Florissant school where she was buzzed in by school officials.
“I saw a teacher and she said Ms. Williams what is wrong? I said something is wrong with Mikey and proceeded to go straight to my son,” said Williams.
She got to her son’s classroom and immediately started to console him. Then the school principal informed her she was violated school policy by not signing in.
“I didn’t sign the book, but I had to check on my son. You can bring me the book, She said oh no, I’ve already called the police. You called what,” said Williams.
Calverton Park Police responded to the call that came out as an “unauthorized entry to a school.” The school was also put on a 12-minute lockdown and a letter was sent home to parents.
“They escorted me away from my son, who already has emotional distress. Four officers told me to turn around and put my hands behind my back, I was under arrest,” said Williams.
She was taken to the police station on trespassing charges but Williams said she is a known parent. In fact, she met with the principal on Wednesday about a separate issue.
She felt her arrest was unnecessary.
When asked if there needs to be discretion used, Williams said, Yes, I feel like today I got arrested for being a concerned parent of my child.”

These hypocritical bastards are bullying our kids on a daily basis and no one seems to see that. I swear, I do not understand how parents are allowing this garbage to take place without some serious blow-back on the perpetrators.

Agree Howie. Not only should the mother of this boy yank his kid out of this school - but what about the other parents? Are they not concerned about this? They should take their kids out en masse. We just keep seeing more and more of these types of stories about sadistic tyrant fascist authoritarian school administrators....just getting away with this kind of stuff.

We live in a brave new world.
Parents are buzzed into schools with the understanding that they'll come to the office and sign in (after showing identification and giving a reason for the visit).
Methinks we're not hearing the whole story from the mother ... especially not the "how and why" she ended up in cuffs. Most times people "talk" themselves into an arrest. If asked to guess, I'd guess that's what happened here.
Rules can be stupid; often are. But if the rules are known and they're in place to secure ALL the children ... then the expectation that they be followed is not unreasonable.

We are fast becoming a nation of tyrants in government, schools, etc. I agree with you that people need to start fighting back in large groups!

I send all articles like this to the superintendent of the school district where I live just to let him know someone is watching for stupidity in the schools.
