Ad Hominem Backfire in the Energy/Climate Debate
6 hours ago Guest Blogger

By Robert Bradley Jr.

“Get off your high horse, all of us are ‘pro climate’, you just have a different view on how to achieve that. Mr. Bradley interacts with anyone who challenges his statements. As far as your charge that he, “declare a position”? He does so every day. Catch up….” Mark Rohrbacher to Thomas Ortman (below)

Social media exchanges between free market and government energy/climate proponents are an excellent way to understand the arguments, politics, and motivations of all involved. Cancel culture not, may the best ideas win. Here is a LinkedIn exchange of note, where I (and others) rebut a familiar ad hominem. In this case, one Thomas Ortman just … disappeared.

The exchange occurred with a post by Gavin Mooney, self-described “energy transition optimist.”. “Batteries have taken a huge leap forward in California this spring, soaking up solar during the day and discharging it when it’s needed in the evening” he wrote. I responded:

Electric Van Sales In Decline
MAY 20, 2024

By Paul Homewood

Whilst EV car sales remain sluggish, the market for electric vans is even worse. The government’s ZEV mandate demands that 10% of van sales are electric this year, and this figure rises rapidly in the next few years.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/pathway-for-zero-emission-vehicle-transition-by-2035-becomes-law

However sales of the useless things gave actually fallen this year, and only account for 4.9% of the market.

Fleetworld sum up the problem:

The Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP) said several major van makers now insist that a proportion of all vehicle orders must be electric vans in order to reflect the percentage of ZEV vehicles they are now legally required to sell – creating a dilemma for fleets that can’t go electric yet.

AFP chair Paul Hollick explained: “It’s quickly becoming a widespread practice that when a fleet wants to order a quantity of vans, manufacturers are asserting that a percentage is electric – often 10% to reflect the 2024 ZEV mandate.

You have to hand it to old Joe.  By stoking the coals of hatred and racism, he's slowly uniting all Americans. :3:

Opinion | Biden to Morehouse Graduates: America Hates You
Opinion by The Editorial Board • 12h

The polls say President Biden has lost support among black Americans, and the White House appears to have settled on a strategy to win them back: spread more racial division. That’s the main message from the President’s dishonorable commencement address Sunday at storied Morehouse College in Atlanta.

Mr. Biden naturally offered the 2024 graduates a list of what he sees as his accomplishments for black Americans. He indulged in his familiar gilded personal history as a civil-rights crusader. He gave the impression that the Delaware Democratic Party was a racist operation until Sen. Joe Biden came along. At least that’s the somewhat forgivable politics of self-aggrandizement.

Less forgivable was the President’s attempt to stir resentment among the graduates on what should be a day to appreciate what they accomplished and to inspire hope for the future. Here’s what Mr. Biden said instead:
“You started college just as George Floyd was murdered and there was a reckoning on race. It’s natural to wonder if democracy you hear about actually works for you.

“What is democracy if black men are being killed in the street?

Migrants Flood New York ID System

The number of New Yorkers, including migrants, who have been issued citywide ID cards increased this fiscal year in comparison with past years.

US Navy warships in the Red Sea are fighting off missiles new to combat that are 'way faster' than anything else, destroyer captain says
Story by jepstein@businessinsider.com (Jake Epstein) • 13h

See the French warships defeating Houthi missile attacks

The US Navy isn't the only force trying to shoot Houthi missiles and drones out of the sky.
The French navy is among other allied forces working to protect commercial ships in the Red Sea.
Last week, a French frigate shot down at least three Houthi ballistic missiles.
Warships of the French navy are among other Western navies in the Red Sea working to protect commercial shipping vessels from Houthi attacks.

Last week, a French frigate shot down at least three Houthi anti-ship ballistic missiles in a combat engagement between Western forces and the Iran-backed militant group.

US Navy warships in the Middle East have been facing off against anti-ship ballistic missiles.
The Houthis introduced these missiles into combat for the first time in late 2023.
The captain of an American destroyer said they are "way faster" than anything else.
US Navy warships operating in the Red Sea have been intercepting deadly ballistic missiles that are "way faster" than anything else, according to the commanding officer of an American destroyer that has shot them down.

Electric Trucks Operating Expenses Are Worse Than Diesel Trucks

While electric passenger cars have been available for some time, the first all-electric Class 8 semi truck didn’t hit the roads until 2022.

Electric semi truck manufacturers, as well as truck rental companies, expected transportation companies to jump at the chance to change from diesel to battery-powered. However, that has not proven to be true. The fact is that electric semi trucks are simply far too expensive.
