A New York University professor is the person responsible for creating a database of over 1,500 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) employees’ personal information and spreading it to Antifa.

Sam Lavigne, a far-left artist and game designer, is an adjunct professor at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He created a database of 1,595 ICE employees using their LinkedIn profiles and shared it to his 3,600 followers on Twitter Tuesday morning.

Antifa, the far-left organization labelled as  “domestic terrorists,” picked up the database and spread it to their followers on Twitter hours later. The database also spread to a subgroup on Reddit that encourages spreading personal information — such as where they live and their contact information, known as “doxxing” — of people who they consider “Nazis” or “alt-right,” which, according to them, includes ICE and the NSA.

“Doxxing ICE agents is good and moral,” one Reddit user posted on a thread that shared the database.

Since this is obviously illegal..... why hasn't this "professor" been arrested?

In addition there are even more consequential specific federal laws, and federal remedies, against doxing federal employees.  This is one of the issues with Mark Osterman and the potential for Frances Robles indictment.   In addition, many states have such individual laws against doing this to state employees, officials, and/or law enforcement officers.

My bad - did we end the separation of Church and State? Are we a theocracy now?

Thought I saw an article yesterday where Antifa was doing the same thing, or is in concert with this puke.

I think a database of Antifa members would be nice to compile to provide to employers.   But, I'd doubt many of them work.

Ahem....

Doxing is always illegal, whether it is done against a federal employee, a state employee, or a regular person. There are federal and state laws that specifically address doxing government employees 18 U.S.C. Sec 371 (18 U.S.C. Sec 119).

The DOJ’s Office of Victims of Crime cites the following common elements of cyberstalking:

* Repeated, unwanted, intrusive, and frightening communications from the perpetrator by phone, mail, and/or email

* Making direct or indirect threats to harm the victim, the victim’s children, relatives, friends, or pets

* Harassing the victim through the Internet

* Posting information or spreading rumors about the victim on the Internet

* Obtaining personal information about the victim by accessing public records, using Internet search services, hiring private investigators, searching through the victim’s garbage, following the victim around the internet and contacting the victim’s friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, etc.

@AbaraXas

HOW can it be illegal as long as all that is published is personal information the person posted to social media themselves?

Disclosed public information and private information are two separate things. For example, if Joe Smith says : I work for ice and I live at 123 main Street, he chose to disclose that. If however, professor X digs into ICE databases, finds names of all agents, then goes into another database to pull addresses baed on the name, then goes to another database that isn't public (such as background check databases) and finds more information, then puts it all together and publishes it, that's illegal as that was not a consented release by the party in question.

Also, based on intent, just releasing the first part runs afoul of cyber bullying laws (if the intent is to harass or do harm).

Exactly.  It isn't just a matter of publishing information already available, it's the use of cross referencing the data from different sources as well.  It's because that information, which is a product of the cross-referencing, is what's new.

sneakypete asked:
"HOW can it be illegal as long as all that is published is personal information the person posted to social media themselves?"

The information was obtained from LinkedIn, is that correct?
I could be wrong, but LinkedIn does not maintain a "public" database of its members. (i.e., not publicly visible to anyone)
One has to join LinkedIn by registering to gain access to such information.

I sense that this has something to do with it.
