Well, I know you're probably prepared, but take care of yourself. You're one of my favorite people. 3333hugs From the pics of the castle that you have posted you should be up high enough from any flooding.
I'm wondering if your kitties get antsy when a storm hits?
Some of the kittehs do get weird when there is thunder and lightning outside but they know it's safe in here.
We are 900 ft above the Colorado River, but there are a couple of washes here that will be running. Several months ago we had a big storm and I could not get out of my neighborhood. We do have plenty of food and water, for now.
Wow, I didn't realize you were that high up. Wonderful. The Castillo del Cyber is a good place to be.

Looks like I'm gonna get wet, starting tomorrow night. The last heavy storm, I never lost WiFi, so knock on wood that I don't need to switch my Verizon hotspot on.
How are ya if the power goes? Got a fail-over jenny or anything?
I was looking at the GFS models yesterday, and I noticed what appeared to be a 960Mb storm off the coast of SD next week.Yeah, to those of us from the Dakotas, that seemed really screwed up.
I thought it was a glitch. If it isn't it is a significantly rare event.

Hilary has now become a Category 2 hurricane
Hurricane Hilary, which is bound to impact California and the Southwest, is "strengthening rapidly" Thursday and is "likely to become a major hurricane" by the end of the day, forecasters are warning.
As of midday Thursday, the storm, which has now been upgraded to a Category 2 hurricane, is centered about 500 miles south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, with current maximum sustained winds of 105 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
"Heavy rainfall in association with Hilary is expected to impact the Southwestern United States from Friday through early next week, peaking on Sunday and Monday," the NHC said in its latest advisory.
"Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches, with isolated amounts in excess of 8 inches, will be possible across portions of southern California and southern Nevada," it added.
FOX Weather is forecasting parts of Arizona and Utah to be hit with several inches of rain as well through next Wednesday. .........

Hurricane Hilary live updates: Category 4 storm barrels toward California
The National Weather Service warned that the hurricane was expected to bring “significant impacts” to the Southwestern U.S. this weekend into early next week.

What to know about the Category 4 storm
*Hurricane Hilary strengthened to a Category 4 storm early Friday and is expected to weaken before reaching California.
*The National Weather Service warned the system was expected to bring "significant impacts" to the Southwest this weekend into early next week.
*Hilary reached maximum sustained winds of 140 miles per hour as of early Friday, according to the National Hurricane Center.
*If the system makes landfall in California as a tropical storm, it will be a rarity. The last time this happened in the past century was in Long Beach in 1939 ...
I don't wish hurricanes on anyone, But it is nice to see the Leftcoast press go all-in on ginning up fear there rather than being here in FL ginning up fear.

I am glad to see you on this thread...I am in the target now, and it went to a 4 overnight, a 3 was expected. I got some rain last night, but it was not related to Hilary. Monsoons are also starting to arrive. And the track shifted a bit to the East. The storms may converge here.
@Cyber Liberty take care. Sandy was no joke so I wouldn't wish anything like that on anyone. Stay safe and I hope you and the kitties will be ok

L.A. ain't ready. Their buildings ain't ready. Their people ain't ready. This is gonna suck for wherever this makes landfall. When's the last time there has been a serious cyclone at Cali's door?

I'm just hoping that this will be a quiet hurricane season for FL. We could use a break.
Temps have dropped down today to 84. Definitely some cooling off.
Get us past Setp and that'll be cool.
What was the last hurricane to hit California?
News of Hurricane Hilary barreling toward Southern California has drawn reminders of "El Cordonazo," a tropical storm that hit the state almost 84 years ago. "El Cordonazo," which made landfall in Long Beach in September 1939, is the last tropical storm recorded in California.1 hour ago

I don't think L.A. will get that much rain. Too bad, a good flood would clean out Skid Row like Hercules cleaned the Augean Stables.
Wanna bet their building codes don't seriously address hurricanes? Earthquakes all day long... But not hurricanes...
I think this is going to be very bad...

We could use a break.Maybe check out this report, https://www.gopbriefingroom.com/index.php/topic,509660.0.html if I recall he's talking near the end about the risks from all the hot water in the gulf and the Atlantic. Fortunately where I am, H.B. California they are at least for now predicting rain mostly Sunday at 2in. and winds btwn 10 and 25 mph so no big deal as long as the city has cleared all the drains. nothing like in the 90's when streets were flooded over the curb and low lying mobile home parks and housing tracts were flooded, even my home that had never had issues was flooded. Still nothing like those on the gulf or east coast face.

We hit a record all time high of 111 yesterday.Well since they started keeping temperature records around 1880.
Weather Report from Castillo del Cyber....
We have had several days of light rain here, about .5 inches total. Today looks like it will be on and off rain, overcast the whole day. This is NOT associated with Hillary. This is a Monsoon storm, which we expect every July-August every year.
Hilary will probably dump the most rain on the arid Central Basin in CA. Bristol and Palm Springs have a Tropical Storm Warning. We might not get much rain where I live in W. Arizona. Lake Havasu, maybe. It depends on how the storm breaks up, as the rain bands may grow quite large. It may contribute to larger-than-usual Monsoons.
I have two full kegs of beer and lots of food on hand, so we will just sit tight here and watch the washes run. We are in a good place where the Castle sits. I made a big batch (69 balls) of meatballs yesterday, and Mrs. Liberty declared them "best batch ever" so I have that going for me. Most meatballs ended up in the freezer for later dinners.

This weekend, Hurricane Hilary will be moving over the driest parts of the USA.
Hilary will bring 5-10 inches (125-250mm) of rain to places like Palm Springs, Death Valley and Las Vegas.
That's 2-3 *years* worth of rain in 2-3 days.
None of this has ever happened before.

Claim: “None of this has ever happened before.”
Except, it has. . .
The 1939 Tropical Storm dropped 5.24” (144 mm) of rain in 24-hours in L.A. During a 3-hour period, Raywood Flat received 9.65” (245 mm) and Indio got 7.0” (180 mm).

The real question is whether there will be enough rain in L.A. or San Francisco to wash away the poop on the sidewalks.
Sorry to disappoint, but the remnants of Hilary won't come within several hundred miles of SF. I live ~50 miles south of SF and we have sunny skies here right now. My son and DIL who live in the San Diego area won't need to water their garden for a while, though.
Nevada Governor Declares State of Emergency Due to Tropical Storm HilaryAcross the State? What? Is Jackpot threatened?
Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo (R) declared a state of emergency in response to Tropical Storm Hilary on Sunday.
Tropical Storm Hilary made landfall on the Baja California peninsula in northwestern Mexico on Sunday afternoon as officials warned of dangerous flooding in the area and the Southwest United States. Lombardo’s office said current forecast models predict severe weather across the state of Nevada.
“Today, I am declaring a state of emergency due to the imminent impact of [Tropical Storm] Hilary across the state. My administration will continue to work diligently with state, federal, tribal, and local partners in preparation and response to this severe weather event,” Lombardo said in a statement. “[Tropical Storm] Hilary represents a serious threat to our communities, and once again, I implore all Nevadans to prepare for flooding, remain vigilant, and to follow all guidance from state and local emergency officials.”

The radar is indicating several inches of rain in the San Gabriel Mountains. Storms are pretty common in the winter, but much of it is stored in a temporary snowpack. We will see if any problems arise overnight. There have been problems, areas have been flooded, mud slides, nothing like what people faced on Maui but still major for the people experiencing it.

States of emergency Tropical Storm Hilary moves into California as flooding, mudslides wreak havoc after state is hit with earthquake
Tropical Storm Hilary’s worst impacts are being felt across Southern California and the Desert Southwest with flooding rain, mudslides and the occasional spotting of funnel clouds.
Pounding rain and ferocious winds flooded roads and brought down trees across Southern California on Sunday night as Tropical Storm Hilary unleashed its wrath on the region.
The historic storm, previously classified as a hurricane, put millions under flash flood watches and warnings as the heavy rain trapped dozens of cars in rising floodwaters in Palm Springs and the surrounding communities.
Before the storm impacted the area, residents were startled by a 5.1-magnitude earthquake and ensuing aftershocks that rocked Ojai, a city about 80 miles northwest of Los Angeles, on Sunday afternoon.

Rant off.
I take it you’re from the L.A. region?By no means do I wish to belittle what some Californians are going through, I am just tired of media disaster porn! I really have to wonder if this tropical storm never before seen in California, since what 1938 or 1939? dropped as much rain or caused as much damage as the storms earlier this year. So far, thank God I have not seen any deaths caused by Hilary in the US so only property damage. I hope the families and friends of all our members are OK, property for the most part can be replaced unlike lives.
My brother and his offspring live there. Have not heard from them yet but I have not wanted to bother them yet (just text) if they’re in chaos.
Indeed there have been landslides probably from rain but this was a hurricane type rotating storm, which is kind of unusual apparently. My brother and his daughter certainly seemed concerned (though my brother does tend to be very paranoid) on Saturday.

Your instinct is spot-on, @GtHawk. See the graphic here of similar storms since 1960: https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2023/08/the-daily-chart-california-screamin.php .I think I said earlier in a thread that in the mid or a bit later 90's I lived in Fountain Valley, CA. some four or five miles from the beach and the streets were overflowed and in places impassible and my house was flooded, the same farther inland. But people have short memories, they forget about the 100+ deg weather we had in the 70's and earlier or the drought years followed by heavy rain years which is the history of California. Now some talking head on the TV and people with an agenda tell them this has never happened before and they just nod their heads and say thank you sir may I have another while blithely ignoring the fact that they had in fact lived the weather before.
