US pushes for Gaza truce and hostage release as Blinken visits
April 28, 2024

Bloomberg News(TNS)US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will step up efforts to secure a truce in Gaza during meetings in the Middle East on Monday, in what could be a final chance to persuade Israel to call off an attack on Rafah. The White House said Sunday that Israel has agreed to hear out its concerns. Israel has “assured us that they won’t go into Rafah until we’ve had a chance to really share our perspectives and our concerns with them,” John Kirby, spokesman for the White House’s National Security Council, told ABC News. “So we’ll see where that goes.”Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas urged US President Joe Biden to intervene, telling a special edition of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh that the US “is the only country capable” of stopping an Israel invasion of Rafah.Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reviewed the talks on a hostage release and a Gaza cease-fire during a call on Sunday, according to a White House statement. Their boots may be a couple hundred yards from being on the ground, but I'm sure the Arab Palis will find ways to make that slightly longer range to their targets irrelevant.

Columbia University threatens students occupying Hamilton Hall with 'expulsion'

 :scared smiley:

Columbia University officials warned student protesters on Tuesday that those currently occupying Hamilton Hall "face expulsion."

In a message emphasizing that the top priority for the university is safety, university officials said that the anti-Israel protests will not be allowed to disrupt the work of the university in violation of school policies.

"We made it very clear yesterday that the work of the University cannot be endlessly interrupted by protesters who violate the rules. Continuing to do so will be met with clear consequences," university spokesman Ben Chang said in a statement.

"Protesters have chosen to escalate to an untenable situation — vandalizing property, breaking doors and windows, and blockading entrances — and we are following through with the consequences we outlined yesterday," he continued.

"Students occupying the building face expulsion."

Chang added that protesters were warned their actions violated university policies and said participants were given multiple opportunities to leave peacefully. Anyone who respected university policies would be allowed to finish the school year. Those that did not have now been suspended.

"Those students will be restricted from all academic and recreational spaces and may only access their individual residence. Seniors will be ineligible to graduate," Chang said. "This is about responding to the actions of the protesters, not their cause."

The disruptions to campus activities and "threatening environment" directed at Jewish students contributed to a "hostile environment" on campus in violation of Title VI, the university said.

Consumer confidence drops to lowest level in nearly two years

.

Consumer confidence in April fell well short of expectations, dropping to its lowest level in nearly two years as people expressed some growing pessimism about the economy.

The Conference Board’s consumer confidence index fell to 97 in April, down from a revised 103.1 the month before, the group announced on Tuesday. That is the lowest consumer confidence reading in 22 months.

Tuesday’s report marks the third month of declining consumer confidence. Economists had expected consumer confidence to rise to 104, so the latest reading is a big miss and bad news for President Joe Biden and Democrats, who are working to shore up perceptions of their economic stewardship in a critical election year.

The expectations index, which tracks the short-term outlook of consumers for business, income, and labor market conditions, fell to 66.4 this month from 74 in March. An expectations index reading below 80 often signals a forthcoming recession, according to the Conference Board.

“Confidence retreated further in April, reaching its lowest level since July 2022 as consumers became less positive about the current labor market situation and more concerned about future business conditions, job availability, and income,” said Dana Peterson, chief economist at the Conference Board.

The drop in consumer confidence was observed across all age groups in the survey and almost all income groups. Younger consumers, those under 35, expressed greater confidence than those over 35. Those with incomes below $25,000 annually and above $75,000 reported the biggest declines in confidence.

They should send his sorry ass over there and tell him his new office is on the pier until the area is secure.  I'll bet it would become one of the safest places on earth within 48 hours. :amen:

Nolte: Three Columbia University Janitors Claim Hitler Youth Held Them Hostage

Three janitors claim the pro-Hamas insurrectionists at Columbia University temporarily held them hostage, reports Fox News.

“They held me hostage,” one maintenance man told the Columbia Spectator, a student newspaper. Fox News adds that at around 12:30 a.m., the Jew-hating insurrectionists stormed Hamilton Hall. The mob then “shattered windows, barricaded doors using tables and chairs, and obscured the windows of the facility.”
