According to the head of the Russian Navy, the number of days per year his submarines spend at sea is back at levels unseen since before the end of the Cold War. The numbers reflect both the introduction of new, more reliable submarines into the fleet and more funding overall for Moscow's naval forces.

They've been popping up in territorial waters of countries like Lithuania as not-so-veiled threats

If they are like the cold war subs, a few may find their way to the bottom of Davey Jones' locker.

In the end, the Russian Navy still operates mostly like the old Soviet Navy. There are only a few subs out there patrolling and I'd bet, except for in the Baltic, an American SSN is tailing along behind them.

I wonder if they still do an occasional "Crazy Ivan"?
