The VA and DoD Don't Have a Funding Problem. They Have a Mismanagement Crisis.

The $328.1 billion 2024 budget for the Department of Veterans Affairs is the largest in agency history. President Joe Biden's 2025 budget for the VA asks for yet another increase to $369.3 billion.

If enacted by Congress, the 2025 proposal would represent a 668% increase in the VA's budget since 2001 and, although over half of the department's annual budget goes toward mandatory spending like disability compensation, the question remains: Have these historic levels of funding translated to improved outcomes for our veterans?

Amid publicity tour, porn star Stormy Daniels denies having an affair with Trump
CNBC, Jan 31, 2018

Adult film star Stormy Daniels, in the midst of a publicity tour fueled by past allegations of a 2006 sexual relationship with a then-married Donald Trump, said in a statement on Tuesday the alleged affair never occurred.

Keith Davidson, a lawyer for Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, confirmed the statement was authentic but didn’t offer any further details.

The statement came at a curious time for Clifford, who appeared after the president’s State of the Union address on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” In recent weeks she has changed production companies, given a television interview and promoted strip club appearances with a risque play on Trump’s “Make America Great Again,” campaign slogan.

In her statement Tuesday, Clifford said she wasn’t denying the affair because she was paid “hush money,” but rather “because it never happened.”

Neither Cohen nor Clifford have addressed whether she was paid $130,000, and if so why.

A publicist didn’t respond to questions about the statement Tuesday.

Let's not forget that Perino's still has some loyalties to the Bush family, and I am sure that had something to do with it too

It would serve Perino well to have some data to back her claim. I can’t find anything that backs her claim

Military Personnel Swear Allegiance to the Constitution and Serve the American People, Not One Leader or Party

In general, Americans don't trust their government institutions as much as they used to -- and that includes the military.

In part, that's because the military can be used as a tool to gain a partisan advantage rather than as a professional group that should be trusted by both parties. For instance, the day he was inaugurated as president, Donald Trump spoke at a luncheon and pointed to retired Marine four-star generals John Kelly and James Mattis, who were serving in his cabinet. "See my generals," he said. "Those generals are going to keep us so safe." This was the first of many times that he referred to top-ranking military officers, whether active-duty or retired, as "my generals" -- rather than as military leaders who serve the nation as a whole.

The former president's actions, while perhaps gaining the most attention, reflect a trend among recent presidential candidates, both Democrats and Republicans, who emphasize their connections to the military.
