US Navy Decommissions Two More Littoral Combat Ships Due to Design Flaws
by SOFREP News Team

The two littoral ships quietly retire in Mayport, Florida

The United States Navy quietly bid farewell to two more of its littoral combat ships (LCS), USS Detroit (LCS-7) and USS Little Rock (LCS-9), in a decommissioning ceremony held last Friday, September 29. This decision comes after just six and seven years of service for the respective vessels.

The LCS-7 and LCS-9, belonging to the US Navy’s Freedom class, were retired early due to major design flaws that rendered them unsuitable for continued service.

A Look Back at Their Service

The decommissioning ceremony, presided over by LCS-7 Commanding Officer Cmdr Kyle Hickman, reminded us of the significant roles these ships played in safeguarding the nation’s waters.

USS Detroit and USS Little Rock were deployed for intelligence-gathering operations and patrols, contributing to the US international anti-drug trafficking campaign.

Biden’s Climate Policies Playing Into Hands of China’s Energy Schemes, Experts Say

China is operating in a “predatory” manner to make America more reliant on complex supply chains arising from climate change initiatives that play into the hands of hostile foreign actors, according to energy, environmental, and foreign policy analysts at a panel discussion Monday.

The event at The Heritage Foundation marked the launch of a new initiative, titled “Chinese Handcuffs,” that probes the Chinese Communist Party’s efforts to dominate the “green energy” sector in cooperation with left-leaning environmental activists in the U.S. (The Heritage Foundation founded The Daily Signal in 2014.)

Although the U.S. has sufficient resources to maintain its energy dominance, the Biden administration’s climate policies could enable the Chinese to gain significant economic and strategic advantages over time, the panelists warned.

“We are right now in the handcuffs of China, and this has been a multidecade agenda that they have led, but at the same time, our own liberal-left agenda has brought us to this point,” said Erin Walsh, a research fellow in international affairs for The Heritage Foundation. “… the United States is the No. 3 energy producer in the world, and China is the No. 1 energy importer in the world, and what they are trying to do is reverse this, so they become dominant in this new energy and renewable sector, and we become dependent on them.” ...

Other speakers discussed how China’s efforts to capture the wind and solar industry have complicated supply chains, putting the U.S. at a disadvantage. The “ambitious climate benchmarks” the Biden administration set for renewables heading into the 2030s will have significant economic and political ramifications, said Landon Derentz, a global energy security analyst with the Atlantic Council. The council is a Washington-based group devoted to promoting U.S. international leadership.  ...

Bring Them Home: The Five Americans Still Held Hostage by Hamas

Elizabeth Weibel 10 May 2024

There are still five American hostages being held by Hamas. And though our leaders seem to have forgotten them, the American people have not.

Hamas murdered 1,200 people in Israel in the October 7, 2023, terror attack, and took more than 250 hostages. While some hostages have been freed, there are still roughly 130 hostages still being held by Hamas — not all of whom are still alive.

Five of them are U.S. citizens.

The five American hostages who are still in Hamas’ captivity are; Keith Siegel, 65, Sagui Dekel-Chen, 35, Omer Neutra, 22, Edan Alexander, 20, and Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23.

Here is a brief description of each.

I'm doubtful that Brandon could care less.  Secondly, is there any proof that they are still alive?  You would think that one of Brandon's objectives would have been to bring them home when they were first taken hostage.  Of course we all know what his record is; leave Americans behind - they are expendable.

@Gefn    Wow. I am very impressed.  You are fluent in Spanish and now learning French as well.  That's awesome! What language program are you using to learn French??

You have inspired me to take up either learning Spanish or continuing to learn French (it's been a really long time though). I have been telling myself for years that I need to learn another language and just have kept putting it off.

As for your trip to Europe -- yes, absolutely there's always hope.  happy77

Hi @libertybele

I had 4 years of Spanish in HS- and one year in College. In grad school I had to pass a translation exam in Spanish to graduate.

I thought I would go to Paris in 2020- obviously I didn't. I just got comfortable doing 15-30 minutes a day learning French it's become almost automatic now.

I don't think I will be going to Europe anytime soon but a girl can hope, right ?

Playground Hit By Rocket Attack

This morning, Hamas launched a rocket barrage at the southern city of Be’er Sheva. One of the rockets hit a children’s playground in the middle of town and wounded a 37-year-old woman who was nearby.

Thanks be to God that the warning sirens sounded in time, and the playground was not filled with children when the rocket landed. Rockets and shrapnel also destroyed a vehicle and damaged buildings and roads in the city.

This attack follows a series of missile, mortar, and drone attacks launched by Hezbollah in the north, damaging property, starting fires, and causing more casualties.

MAGEN DAVID ADOM paramedics and EMTs have courageously raced to the scene of every attack to find and care for the wounded. But the attacks just keep coming. ...

A rare Hamas attack hit the southern Israel city of Be’er Sheva on Friday evening, injuring a woman.

A total of five rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip at Be’er Sheva, the Israeli Defence Forces said in a statement. One was intercepted by the Iron Dome and the other four hit open areas.

A 37-year old woman was taken to hospital as she was lightly injured by shrapnel. Images from the city showed impact at a children’s playground, with some of the plastic installations mangled by the blast wave. ...
