Quote
Aaron Maté, a leftist Canadian who writes for the fringe conspiracy-theory website Grayzone, has recently become a favorite source for the far-right fringe of the MAGA universe, the fringe that prefers to “Make America Guilty Again.”

Don’t buy it.

Maté just produced a long-read article on Ukraine for RealClearPolitics. Because of RCP’s credibility, his error-riddled “investigation” into the origins of the war in Ukraine is gaining a readership, even in congressional circles.

Indeed, Maté’s polemic is full of distortions.

His central claim: The Russia-Ukraine war is the spawn of intervention by the Obama-Biden administration, which supported and directed a coup in 2014 by Ukraine’s “far-right” — a claim that echoes the most persistent theme of Russia’s propaganda machine.

The truth: As anyone in Kyiv during those turbulent months (as I was) knows, the Maidan protests of 2013-2014 were led and directed by democratic, pro-European politicians and supported by the mass protests of hundreds of thousands of ordinary middle-class citizens from Kyiv and around the country.

EXCERPT

This story deserves it's own thread since I've seen this absurd nonsense argued everywhere, especially by the pro-Kremlin crowd at TOS.

Top House Armed Services Dem: Biden’s Israel Threat ‘Took Pressure off of Hamas’ and Decreased Odds of Ceasefire

Ian Hanchett 11 May 2024

On Friday’s broadcast of “CNN News Central,” House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) stated that President Joe Biden’s threat to withhold certain weapons from Israel if it goes into Rafah’s population centers “doesn’t help” and “took pressure off of Hamas, when it shouldn’t have.”

Co-host John Berman asked, “Do you agree with the policy of threatening to withhold certain weapons if Israel goes further into Rafah?”

Smith responded, “I don’t think he should have done it publicly. I think the private conversations were very appropriate. I think the other possibility is end-use restrictions. We’ve done that, for instance, in Ukraine, here [are] your weapons, can’t fire into Russia.”

Berman then cut in to ask, “Why don’t you think he should have done it publicly?”

Smith answered, “Because, look, the biggest block to a ceasefire right now is Hamas. And that’s being largely underreported. There has been a ceasefire agreement on the table for months, which the President brokered, to allow for the return of hostages and a temporary ceasefire. Hamas has blocked that and said, no, Israel has to completely withdraw, permanent ceasefire, and oh, by the way, we’re only going to return some of the hostages over an extended period of time. That offer’s been on the table. We have to keep the pressure on Hamas to agree to that ceasefire.”

Berman then asked, “So, what then, does making the public threat to withhold weapons do?”

It's nothing new...my mom and dad's 2007 caddy has had to have three wiring harnesses replaced over the years, on their own dime due to "out of warranty," because rodents kept eating the soy insulation at night while it was parked on their carport!

Toyota even got sued for the problem.

Of course the auto manufacturers switched from rubber and silicon to soy-based insulation under government pressure to "save the planet," doncha know!

No.   And the Democrat counterpart to January 6 likely will be worse.

That’s because, unlike the Jan 6th rioters, left wing agitators will not only have the support of the Democrat Party but the media as well

In Viet Nam days, when a carrier transited to the Philippines, the Russians would send a TU-95 Bear to take recon photos of the ship.  It was greeted by two fighters with an Alert 5 standing by.  On my second deployment the Captain was a mustang and tough as nails.  He invited all who wanted to come to the flight deck and "flip" the plane the "international sign of peace."  I wonder what their intelligence people thought when they saw 1,000 men flipping off the Bear? :silly:

They should have dropped drawers and given the "full moon" salute!

What exactly is this "crushing blow"?

The State of California has been cooking the books for so long that the books have transitioned from "hammered" to "whole burnt offering". $$ gets shuffled from one budgetary area to another. Gas tax and DMV fee $$ that should be used for road/highway building and maintenance has been funneled into Sacred Mass Transit boondoggles for decades (think Moonbeam 1.0). Teachers' and state employees' pension funds have been underfunded for decades.

This is a big part of why I was and am so POed that R Mo-o-o-o-o-oooooooderates ego-stroked Ahnold the RINO into running for governor in the Gray Davis recall. State Rep Tom McClintock would have won instead, and he knew where every budgetary skeleton-closet was and where every budgetary body was buried. Ahnold the RINO was a budgetary invertebrate!

I am quite certain that NY and NYC engage in the same short of "data quality issues" as well.
