Texas authorities say they are responding to reports of a shooting at Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church in Houston.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced that there were "possible shots fired at/or around Lakewood Church" on Sunday afternoon.
"We have @HCSOTexas deputies that work an extra-job there," Gonzalez said on X. "Info still preliminary. Site falls within @houstonpolice area."
"The active scene is at Lakewood Church on the SW Fwy service road. Traffic is very heavy near and on the service road," Houston Police Department wrote on X.

Two people were injured and one suspect was killed during a shooting at Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church on Sunday afternoon, Texas authorities say.
During a press conference, police chief Troy Finner said that the shooting began at 1:53 p.m. It happened at around the time that the Spanish language church service was scheduled to start.
The suspect, who was a woman, entered the church with a long rifle. She was wearing a backpack and a trench coat, and was accompanied by a "small child, approximately 4 to 5 years old", Finner said.
After she began shooting, off-duty officers at the scene "engaged" the woman and returned fire. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said that two people were injured, including a 57-year-old man who was shot in the leg. The child that the shooter came with was also injured and remains in critical condition.
Finner also disclosed that the suspect mentioned that she had a bomb.
"Once she went down, officers reported back to us that she threatened that she had a bomb," the police chief explained. "So we searched her vehicle, our bomb squad, and also the backpack [she brought]."
"No explosives were found, but she was also spraying some type of substance on the ground."
The death of the shooter was first announced by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez earlier that afternoon.

I don't have definite info about this, but this/these "off-duty officers" are probably part of a volunteer security team at Lakewood. The last 20 or 30 years in which churches have been sites/targets for shooters has, over those decades, led many churches to have volunteer security teams with some members allowed to be armed (= have the necessary expertise). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Colorado_YWAM_and_New_Life_shootings

I don't have definite info about this, but this/these "off-duty officers" are probably part of a volunteer security team at Lakewood. The last 20 or 30 years in which churches have been sites/targets for shooters has, over those decades, led many churches to have volunteer security teams with some members allowed to be armed (= have the necessary expertise).
Many congregations that can afford to pay off-duty cops do so, or these guys may have been volunteers, as you said.
My husband and I are on our church's volunteer security team. We were trained by a cop in various techniques and regularly maintain our shooting skills. Anyone here who wants to look into protecting his or her own church should check out Sheepdog Church Security (https://www.sheepdogchurchsecurity.net/index.html) if there's not a training company near you. Every single church and synagogue in this country should have armed, trained security.

A Texas woman who opened fire at Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church was accused of being a schizophrenic with Munchausen-by-proxy - but was still able to legally purchase the AR-15 she used to unleash horror on Sunday.
Gunwoman Genesse Ivonne Moreno, 36, had a lengthy criminal record going back to 2005, including charges of assault, weapons, marijuana possession and forgery charges. She also had a history of mental illness and was held in an emergency detention order in 2016, police said Monday.
They also revealed they found anti-Semitic writings and that Moreno appeared to have issues with Jewish relatives.
'We do believe that there was a familial dispute that has taken place between her ex-husband and her ex-husband's family, some of whom are Jewish,' police said in a press conference.
Moreno used several identities under both genders and it's unclear what gender she identified as. However, police said on Monday she is believed to be the biological mother of the seven-year-old she brought into the church with her. ...

They want you to believe that the shooter was white, even though records show she was from El Salvador.
They want you to believe just the word “Palestine” was written on the gun, and it’s totally unconnected to her antisemitic writings.
And they definitely don’t want you asking questions about what her path to citizenship was that allowed her to vote in the 2020 election, with a rap sheet as long as hers.

Woman Who Opened Fire in Lakewood Church Bought Gun Legally
The woman who opened fire in Lakewood Church Sunday legally purchased the long gun used in the attack in December 2023.
She also had a .22 rifle in the backpack she was carrying. She was shot and killed by off-duty law enforcement officers who were working security at the church as a side job.
Breitbart News reported that the attacker was identified as 36-year-old Genesse Moreno, who KHOU 11 noted “previously identified as Jeffery Escalante.”
KHOU found the previous identity via a search of Texas Department of Public Safety Records.
Breitbart News did a follow-up search of the Texas Department of Public Safety Records and found that in one entry, the name appeared as “Jeffrey” instead of “Jeffery.”

She was able to convince the police she was just acting weird, so I tend to believe more evil than mentally off.
Also, if that report that she voted while illegal is valid, it needs to be shouted from the rooftops. I am tired of Democrats lying about illegals voting.

IMO, preparations to commit a crime and actions to conceal the preparations or the crime itself and action to escape should be an absolute counter to insanity pleas. Preparation proves capacity to plan, and efforts at concealment and/or escape prove knowledge the crime was wrong.

Justice was robbed when she died from police gunfire. She should have been tied to a stake and burned to death in public for taking her child along with her and endangering THAT innocent life.
