KIEV, March 27. /ITAR-TASS/. A warning came to the European Union that transit of Russian natural gas to the EU via Ukrainian territory may stop. This warning is made in a letter Yuriy Prodan, appointed by the Supreme Rada as minister of energy and coal industry of Ukraine, addressed to EU Energy Commissioner Guenter Oettinger, the press service of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry reports.

Not unexpected, though a bit sooner than anticipated. You apply pressure however you can, and stopping Russian gas from reaching it's markets is going to hurt Russia far more than it'll hurt Europe in the short and medium terms.

Well - it's a warm spring here, so most people have turned off the heating already (that is a huge part of the market, virtually everything here runs on LPG or natural gas). You know most politicians - especially to the left - think short term, so maybe they'll try posturing for a bit. They'll come to heel fast enough in the autumn.
