Thanks, NeverTrumpers. Are You Happy Now?

NeverTrump Republicans have been rabidly obsessed since 2015 to prevent Donald Trump’s nomination, election, and having failed, to join the left in nonstop criticism and condemnation of President Trump. They may be succeeding, but to what end? As they look around at the current political landscape, are they truly happy with the direction of the country? Or is that irrelevant, as long as they can strut around on their high horse, feeling smug, telling each other “I told you so�
The NeverTrump movement began shortly after Trump announced his candidacy for the presidency. So-called “principled Republicans†were incensed that a loud-mouth from Queens, a TV reality star, a host of beauty pageants, someone never before elected to public office, should challenge the Republican establishment orthodoxy.
His tweets and straight talk were unacceptable. Calling out the media and his political opponents ran against the grain of how they thought Republicans should handle themselves in a presidential campaign. Trump did not follow the proper and acceptable savoir faire of John McCain or Mitt Romney, two prominent NeverTrumpers. The fact that both lost their elections to an easily defeatable far-left candidate who damaged the country badly during his eight-year reign of “fundamentally transforming America†seems to be lost on Trump’s GOP critics.
The NeverTrump names are familiar. Aside from the two noted above, there are others, all one-time Republicans, although their conservative beliefs have been tossed out the window over political expediency or ego. George Will, Max Boot, Steve Schmidt, Bret Stephens, Jennifer Rubin, and anyone with the last name of Bush. There are many in Congress too – Paul Ryan, Jeff Flake, Ben Sasse, Bob Corker, and others.

That is obviously not the case anymore wrt Republicans and Conservatives.
And the customer is always right.

Imagine my disdain when the likes of bill kristol is propped up as a leader in the 'so called' Never movement it's as dubios as people trying to associate david duke (whom I regretfully campaigned for against Edwards) as having close ties with Trump.
As one Briefer so astutely repeats, it's time for Trump to expand his base by making inroads to the Independents.

But the GOP Congress has not been rewarded for all this, because the President insisted the midterm elections be a referendum on him. We are now facing two years of investigations and obstruction by a radicalized and energized Democratic party.
The question is what to do going forward. Why not listen to what the "NeverTrumpers" have to say, and recalibrate things so we can recover and win again in 2020? They have a point, you know, that the President IS polarizing, and now we have empirical evidence that such polarization loses elections, notwithstanding a robust and growing economy and record-low unemployment.
What do we do now in response? That is the only relevant question, and it seems to me that all Republicans of good will, both the NeverTrumpers and those who feel there is no GOP without Trump, need to be encouraged to sit at the table and discuss how to recover from this month's debacle. It shouldn't matter how we all felt about Trump in 2016. He has a track record now, both of real policy successes and a frustrating inability or unwillingness to grow the coalition that elected him. The stakes are high, because a side-effect of the "resistance" has been the emergence of Democrats advocating true socialism and disrespect for the Constitution. It is crucial that we stop this in its tracks - and only unity based on shared values and a willingness, when necessary, to be self-critical will work.
We don't need anger that blinds us to Trump's accomplishments, nor do we need purges rooted in cults of personality. We need clear vision and a willingness to ask tough questions and draw uncomfortable but necessary conclusions.

Actually, I want my doctor back. We had a riproaring economy during the Obama years, in spite of the government, we just got a pipeline finished thanks to Trump and a few rules thrown out, but even those rules would have created jobs to comply or evade them.. Trade deals didn't hurt us, and there are still caravans coming in.
And Hillary's ass is still not behind bars. etc.
Now I don't so much blame Trump for the bad as the GOP, after all they'll still porking the pigs they have been, and getting about the same done otherwise, which just might have been why they lost some seats. If the only way to clean house is to get rid of the dead weight and let the seat go over to the other side for a term, so be it. Primary challenges are generally ineffective against entrenched incumbents, and the party response to complaint has generally been the arrogant attitude of "where else are you going to go?". The GOP has reaped the benefit of that smugness, at a time when there are the Senate and the White House to stop Democrats from making policy for a couple of years.
Best to quit finger pointing and consolidate its Conservative feces for 2020, because anything less will not reap any rewards.

I'm predicting right here that SCOTUS nominees and judges appointments are going to come at a great personal cost to them as individuals and for us as a nation.
For it's the ONLY thing that separates THEM from us. They've 'won' everywhere else. Academia. Hollywood.

The point is not to ridicule Trump or his most die hard supporters. It is the concept that he (and supporters too for that matter) can rightfully point to a great economy as a trophy in this political battle.
The problem is, is that sword cuts both ways. If we get into a 20+% correction, and the subsequent economic dominoes fall...... How does Trump and hard core minions fare? And if you are honest with yourself, you know that answer.

Excises and Tariffs on imports particularly from Britain and Germany!

Another article that DC tries to broad brush paint over the folks here at TBR that are also NeverTrumpers (myself included). The people mentioned in the story were never truly conservative and have no bearing on most of us here at the Brief. Two ends of the spectrum, the article NeverTrumpers are somewhat liberal but just slightly more liberal than Trump, those TBR folks here are mostly far to the right of both Trump and the RINOs depicted. It is unfortunate that we share the same nickname "NTs".... but that seems to be the light most articles now days tend to harp upon.
What is more troubling to me is that those of us that are true conservatives usually with some moral backbone thrown in, are so irrelevant that we don't even get articles written about us. The only ones worth blaming in print now days seems to be leftist Nevertrumpers. Perhaps because there is so very few real conservatives left in Congress with any fire in their bellies.
For me personally, it is laughable to compare me (and a few here at TBR) to McCain, Bush, or Romney. Two of which I didn't even vote for because I was Never Romney and Never McCain also. Had I had the maturity at the time I would of been Never Bush also. Want my vote, prove you are a core conservative and at least don't spit at Christian values of protecting life and Christian values (freedom to not bake a dang cake with sodomy scribbling across the top of it).

Yeah, I guess I include the House NTs then. But, the NT movement as a whole, was who I had in mind when I wrote it.

My attitude at the time of the post was the result of weeks of losing interest in social media in general. A case of overload.
Also, the results of the mid-terms and the subsequent recount nonsense.
A sickening realization that maybe my own nieces nephews and grandchildren are being indoctrinated right now. Like living the movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers or Invasion with that Aussie redhead.
Concentrated more on my personal health and needs.
I picked this out because it was at the top of American Thinker, which I post here frequently.
That's why I specified that I wasn't singling out House NTs exclusively. Yes, I was attaching them to the POVs of those mentioned in the essay.

The NeverTrump movement began shortly after Trump announced his candidacy for the presidency. So-called “principled Republicans†were incensed that a loud-mouth from Queens, a TV reality star, a host of beauty pageants, someone never before elected to public office, should challenge the Republican establishment orthodoxy.
His tweets and straight talk were unacceptable. Calling out the media and his political opponents ran against the grain of how they thought Republicans should handle themselves in a presidential campaign. Trump did not follow the proper and acceptable savoir faire of John McCain or Mitt Romney, two prominent NeverTrumpers. The fact that both lost their elections to an easily defeatable far-left candidate who damaged the country badly during his eight-year reign of “fundamentally transforming America†seems to be lost on Trump’s GOP critics.
The NeverTrump names are familiar. Aside from the two noted above, there are others, all one-time Republicans, although their conservative beliefs have been tossed out the window over political expediency or ego. George Will, Max Boot, Steve Schmidt, Bret Stephens, Jennifer Rubin, and anyone with the last name of Bush. There are many in Congress too – Paul Ryan, Jeff Flake, Ben Sasse, Bob Corker, and others.

@DCPatriot This is such horsesh!t. The reason we lost these elections (and are continuing to let recounts go unchallenged) is because grass roots Conservatives who in the past have fought these battles for the GOP were effectively eradicated through the 2016 Convention process. And in every single solitary battle that was fought between the GOP Establishment and the Conservative Grass Roots, Candidate Donald Trump sided with the GOP Establishment.
So fast forward to 2018. At a time when we need people on the ground fighting for local House seats, the ones who do that heavy lifting - the same ones responsible for taking back control of the House in 2010 - were sent packing two years ago as Trump delegates voted to place all power in the hands of Reince Priebus and his buddies at GOPE-Central. Yet you want to blame the #NT boogeyman for this? Stop with the lies already. This has nothing to do with Never-Trumpers. It has everything to do with the inability of local candidates to find political support at home as a National Party stands idly by - holding absolute power at the national level while completely powerless to help at the local level.
Heck, even my own district fell to a Democrat because the Republican who swore allegiance to the National Party had zero support at home from Conservatives who were rendered powerless two years ago.
Maybe, just maybe if you were willing to get on board to drain the swamp instead of getting on board with the politician who has consolidated more power to the swamp than any other politician in history, then maybe we can get back to standing for something as a Party (i.e. cutting spending, reducing the deficit, not giving out free shit, flat taxes, free commerce, defunding taxpayer-funded abortion, etc.) Do that, and people will have something to get passionate about. Do that, and people will have a reason to vote GOP. Because right now, I can't come up with a single one.

As far as being a "Never Trump Republican", well, I'm not. I'm an American looking for a Party which holds the same values I do, and who does what they say they will instead finger pointing and whining like little babies and making excuses to not perform. Because they aren't getting the job done. They haven't gotten the job done, they just make excuses, stall until they have new excuses, and eff the voters, devil take the hindmost, go lie again to get reelected.
Maybe if the GOP would quit acting like a bunch of whiny-assed Democrats sliding to the Left chasing communist votes, and get back on the Right, they would get a dime from me again--but they won't until that happens.

The point is not to ridicule Trump or his most die hard supporters. It is the concept that he (and supporters too for that matter) can rightfully point to a great economy as a trophy in this political battle.
The problem is, is that sword cuts both ways. If we get into a 20+% correction, and the subsequent economic dominoes fall...... How does Trump and hard core minions fare? And if you are honest with yourself, you know that answer.

Positive articles/threads about Trump are quickly trashed with inanities by our resident NT’s and quickly fall apart, while negative articles/threads about Trump are mostly ignored by AT’s (because we got better things to do than offer entertainment for losers). The candidates who lost house seats lost them on their own merits, through fraud by the other side, or likely a combination of the two. No one is entitled to anyone's vote, they have to earn it, either by actually having a track record of worthy accomplishments or by providing reason to believe they will have if elected.
If incumbents failed to pull that out of heir hats, if they didn't bother to expend the resources needed to campaign as well as their opponents, if they failed to do the jobs they were sent to DC to do, well, that ain't on nobody but them
