Kavanaugh: 'I will not be intimidated into withdrawing'
By Jordain Carney - 09/24/18 01:52 PM EDT
Brett Kavanaugh on Monday said he will "not be intimidated into withdrawing" his Supreme Court nomination after a second woman came forward with a sexual misconduct allegation against him.
Kavanaugh sent a letter on Monday to Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.)— the chairman and ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, respectively — saying the accusations against him are "smears, pure and simple."
"They debase our public discourse. But they are also a threat to any man or woman who wishes to serve our country. Such grotesque and obvious character assassination—if allowed to succeed—will dissuade competent and good people of all political persuasions from service," Kavanaugh said in the letter to Grassley and Feinstein.
"I will not be intimidated into withdrawing from this process. The coordinated effort to destroy my good name will not drive me out. The vile threats of violence against my family will not drive me out. The last- minute character assassination will not succeed," Kavanaugh continued.

Brett Kavanaugh sent a defiant letter Monday to the Senate in the wake of a new sexual misconduct allegation brought against him Sunday. Kavanaugh sent the scathing letter to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley and Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein on Monday afternoon.
Kavanaugh wrote that he will not be “intimidated†by the “smear†accusations against him.
“I will not be intimidated into withdrawing from this process. The coordinated effort to destroy my good name will not drive me out. The vile threats against my family will not drive me out. The character assassination will not succeed,†Kavanaugh said.
The letter called the accusations against him a “grotesque and obvious character assassination.â€
“There is now a frenzy to come up with something—anything—that will block this process and a vote on my confirmation from occurring. These are smears, pure and simple. And they debase our public discourse. But they are also a threat to any man or woman who wishes to serve our country,†Kavanaugh wrote. “Such grotesque and obvious character assassination—if allowed to succeed—will dissuade competent and good people of all political persuasions from service. As I told the Committee during my hearing, a federal judge must be independent, not swayed by public or political pressure. That is the kind of judge I will always be.â€

Apologies in advance, but I posted this on another thread. I think it applies to this thread, ever more so. It appears Judge Kavanaugh has learned the same lesson, to the nth degree.
I learned over 45 years ago that liberals should be met with unrelenting fire...it's the only thing they understand.
My last two months of HS were miserable, my crime was that I accepted a 4 Year Army ROTC scholarship at a HS 15 miles south of Berkeley. The senior class president sat behind me in calculus, ridiculing me every day before class, saying I was a sell-out, among other things. He wasn't the worst, I even had teachers say to my face how "disappointed" they were in me.
About a week before school ended, he came in looking clean cut, with his hair shorn. When questioned, he said he got the hair cut for a job at Sears. I turned his words on him for a good ten minutes, extending my righteous anger on him a good five minutes into class. The teacher finally stepped in when he saw I was running out of gas...he was thrilled that I chose to matriculate at Gonzaga, as he was a former Jesuit priest who taught at Marquette.
I've mellowed a bit over the years, but I still have no problems letting liberals know when they're full of it...Gonzaga prepared me well for the world outside academia. I didn't realize it until I read Atlas Shrugged, where Francisco d'Anconia told Hank Rearden that he was giving him the words he will need for the moment he will need them (i.e., the "Money Speech", in the chapter entitled "The Aristocracy of Pull").
I had professors in varied disciplines that helped me develop my critical thinking skills, to express my thoughts logically and intelligently...at least, most of the time.
Vaya con Dios, Judge Kavanaugh.

Rush read the statement from kavanaugh on his show today.

He's fighting! Where the hell is the Republican Party "leadership"?
Republican Leadership is an oxymoron.
-
Defiant is not the right word. I'd say after reading the letter, STEADY and RESOLUTE would be the better words to describe him.

Does anyone really think at this point he's going to get confirmed? He could be squeaky clean and he still isn't going to get the votes.

At this point, this goes way beyond the Supreme Court. The Rats need to go down and go down hard for this, whether or not Kavanaugh gets in.
-
He could be squeaky clean and he still isn't going to get the votes.
Only if the GOP caves.
Not trying to equate them, but we ought to remember this -- The most perfect man in the world was CRUCIFIED.

If he's not in the Supreme Court, then I say, Kavanaugh 2024.

Murkowski isn't going to vote for him and my hunch is Collins won't either.

Yes, but Akin, O'Donnell, Angle, and Moore will.

If more Pubs would speak to this travesty then the pressure on Flake, Collins and Murkowski could shift to voting for Kavanaugh. Maybe a few Dems, too.
Graham and Hatch have called this freak show what it is. Anyone else?
-
Collins made a statement today that she does not believe he's going to overturn Roe v. Wade.
https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/408164-collins-i-dont-believe-kavanaugh-will-repeal-roe-v-wade
Almost certain she's a vote for confirmation. Maybe not Murkowski, but I don't see her as willing to be the lone GOP "no" vote. Flake as well.
It gets really difficult to vote no based on these allegations where every single witness named by Ford herself fails to support her account. It begs the question of when you'd ever believe a man, and while that may be okay among the mutants who make up the Democratic Party, that will not be tolerated by many Republicans.

If he is not guilty why the denial?

Brett Kavanaugh sent a defiant letter Monday [...] As I told the Committee during my hearing, a federal judge must be independent, not swayed by public or political pressure. That is the kind of judge I will always be.â€
I will admit that I did not hold Kavanaugh in all that high of esteem...
But now... I can see that it is in his character, that when he believes he is right, he is
IMMOVABLE.
I like that.

If he is not guilty why the denial?
@rustynail
Well that’s a ridiculous question...but the answer is: Because this is not a legal battle. This a public relations battle. And especially with so many already presuming guilt, silence would be construed (AND PORTRAYED) as an admission of guilt.

His letter was wonderful. I am so proud of his courage and conviction and willingness to carry on despite the heinous smears against him.
In the car today I flipped the radio to CNN to hear what the enemy was saying and they are smearing him for going on Fox tonight to defend himself. Juan Williams smeared him for this as well today and he was called on it.

Brett Kavanaugh on Monday said he will "not be intimidated into withdrawing".....

The letter is good, and I suspect he'll repeat much of the same in his appearance before the Senate panel on Thursday.
But... he's going to have to show some emotion, as well.
He better not be "too dry" in his presentation.
Not too "lawyerly".
He must come across as a man whose dignity has been subjected to a vicious and unjustified attack.
It was Clarence Thomas' righteous indignation that won the battle for him back in 1991.
Justice Thomas ought to call Judge Kavanaugh before Thursday and offer some advice and counselin' ...!
