President Trump on Tuesday restated his support for his administration's policy of separating migrant families at the U.S. border, calling Democrats "the problem."
“We must always arrest people coming into our Country illegally. Of the 12,000 children, 10,000 are being sent by their parents on a very dangerous trip, and only 2000 are with their parents, many of whom have tried to enter our Country illegally on numerous occasions,†he wrote on Twitter.
"Democrats are the problem. They don’t care about crime and want illegal immigrants, no matter how bad they may be, to pour into and infest our Country, like MS-13. They can’t win on their terrible policies, so they view them as potential voters!" he continued in another tweet.

My post was going to be similar to yours. There are quite a number of Republicans who really don't care that this country is being invaded by illegals and alleged refugees.
This is among the reasons why I see so little difference between the two parties. They both want the same things.

At the risk of coming close to admitting that Glenn Beck was right about something (Gasp!!!)....
the radical leftists/Democrats are enacting the very tactic that Beck talked about for taking down a government and collapsing a system (capitalist, naturally.... since the commies hate capitalism).
That tactic was coined by Cloward-Piven.... and it seems to be working splendidly. Heard on the radio that each of these "kids" is costing around $35,000 to feed, house and clothe. Since we are already way over our heads in national debt, this ongoing wave of new immigrants will eventually over-load and collapse our system. That's a given.
That is "if" Trump doesn't do something NOW to stop it in its tracks. The rats are literally daring Trump to do just that.... so they can use that against him, as well. It's a lose-lose scenario for him.

Traditional Republicans have made a very uncomfortable deal with this President. They support the President because he sees things their way with respect to taxes, deregulation and the appointment of conservative judges. But they've had to lie down with the alt-right on the issue of immigration, and surrender their principles when it comes to free trade.
Where the President has truly surprised me is foreign policy - his blunt, America-first approach has been yielding real results. And the economy is booming, notwithstanding that the stock market is tanking today because of his unwillingness to let well enough alone and wage trade wars to protect American businesses that can't find enough good folks to hire anyway. Fine, I can live with all that. But his immigration rhetoric is pushing me very, very close to breaking with this President. It is irresponsible, incendiary, dehumanizing and it repulses me.

Pres. Trump should get a standing ovation. He doesn't back down and calls out the Rats for their hidden agenda. I am so sick and tired at the moderate Pubs running for cover and criticizing Pres. Trump at the first sign of trouble. Pres. Trump is spot on wjen we talk about immigration. He's also right when he says we do need immigration, but we need to know who it is coming into our country and that these should be people who can help the country, not just drive down wages.

Controlling immigration helps contribute to rising wages. We should all want to see our fellow citizens do better and those that only want the benefit of a cheap labor source regardless of what it does to the country and those directly affected by it are pretty poor excuses for citizens.

But latinos already were voting overwhelming for Democrats long before Trump ran for office. So he didn't create those votes -- they were already voting that way. In fact, one of the unexpected storylines out of this last Presidential election was that Trump did better among Latinos than did Romney.

So it seems pretty plausible that a lot of Latino voters -- all citizens (at least theoretically...) -- don't equate taking a hardline against illegal immigration with being anti-Latino or racist.

I'm not suggesting the laws should not be enforced. Illegals are just that, and they must be dealt with appropriately under the law. But that is no reason to dehumanize them, or suggest they come here to sponge off American taxpayers.
Crossing the border illegally in search of a job is a misdemeanor. That's it - a simple misdemeanor. Such folks are not invading hordes, infesting our nation with their evil presence. They want to work. And as for those fleeing desparate situations and seeking asylum, I agree with the First Lady - enforce the law, but not at the expense of our humanity.

It should be noted he talked in front of a small business association. We are directly affected by rising wages, but don't mind the trade off if all Americans are benefiting and real immigration reform/controls can be enacted.

The U.N. resolution from 1951 dealing with asylum and refugees says that refugees can't forum shop as is the case right now. They are supposed to file for asylum in the first country they come to not directly involved in the conflict forcing them to flee. They can't bounce from country to country to country until they get to the U.S. and can apply for all of our welfare benefits.

I don't disagree. But employers care only about getting the workers they need to stay in business. Some of them turn to illegals.
I agree that the systemic problems that create this dynamic must be addressed. But the President says that illegal immigrants "infest" this country and are "bad . . . like MS-13". That is condemning folks who are rationally responding to employers seeking their services. And yes, that is appealing to folks' racism, since most illegals are (let's be honest) nonwhite.
Yes, the laws should be enforced, but let's not use hard working folks as pawns in racist agendas (the Dems love to do that; I prefer as a Republican that we not imitate that crapola). Let's not forget the role played by employers in drawing them here, or the policies of government that make it uneconomic to hire "above-ground" workers in many occupations.

Because entering the country illegally is ..well illegal. Working without lawful status is..illegal. Many times they steal peoples identity so that they can work. That too is illegal.
but yeah employers should be charged as well if they knowingly employ an illegal. Everify helps to prevent that.

U6 unemployment is still above 7% the work participation rate in the U.S. is still at near historic lows. There's nearly 95 million legal American citizens without a job that could work if they had employment.

That's not for lack of workers. And you're in typical fashion greatly exaggerating the situation in the heartland.
There are no crops rotting in the fields and there are far more farmers being paid not to plant by the Federal Government than there are those wanting to expand their operations but can't. and 99.9% of the time if they can't expand it's because of yet another over reach by the government.

You should know that a significant number of illegals are coming here, not to work, but to take advantage of public assistance, free health care and free schools for their kids. They are taking advantage of a welfare system paid for by American citizens -- working citizens designed to care for its own poor citizens, not foreigners in this country illegally.
I've said this all along: American taxpayers have poured billions of dollars into the rathole countries where most illegals come from. In addition, many of our citizens have voluntarily donated money to numerous charitable endeavors aimed at improving life in these countries. If life is so bad in these countries, then it must be so because the people there are unwilling to work to make it better. Money from the US alone will not improve the living conditions of these people. They muse work in their own country for a better life. . If they have a government unwilling to work with them, then they must replace that government with one that will.
We cannot afford to take care of the whole world. The world has to get off its collective duffs and take care of itself.

I believe I've been very fair in assessing this President. I'd be curious regarding your response to my post from earlier on this thread, reproduced below:
Traditional Republicans have made a very uncomfortable deal with this President. They support the President because he sees things their way with respect to taxes, deregulation and the appointment of conservative judges. But they've had to lie down with the alt-right on the issue of immigration, and surrender their principles when it comes to free trade.
Where the President has truly surprised me is foreign policy - his blunt, America-first approach has been yielding real results. And the economy is booming, notwithstanding that the stock market is tanking today because of his unwillingness to let well enough alone and wage trade wars to protect American businesses that can't find enough good folks to hire anyway. Fine, I can live with all that. But his immigration rhetoric is pushing me very, very close to breaking with this President. It is irresponsible, incendiary, dehumanizing and it repulses me.
I do not seek the downfall of this President. I want him to succeed, and have praised him when warranted - which is often. But he will lose me with tweets like those he spat out today. He may earn applause, but I cannot abide the dehumanization of human beings who, as far as I can tell, came here to seek opportunity by sacrifice and hard work. That is not to minimize the importance of enforcing our laws, and fixing the laws that need fixing. But there is a right way and a wrong way to engage in political rhetoric. I wish Trump would appeal to our better angels rather than exploit our worst fears and prejudices.

Wayne Sirles parks his dusty pickup amid rows of peach trees, where Mexican pickers pluck fruit that a few years ago dropped to the ground to rot for lack of hands to harvest it.
Not this year. Sirles, whose great-great-grandfather founded Rendleman Orchards in the tiny town of Alto Pass in southern Illinois, has for the second season hired temporary foreign workers through the government's H-2A visa program, stanching a loss of crops that threatened the viability of his family's 144-year-old farm.
He didn't want to. Determined to avoid the costs of the program, Sirles put up flyers in high schools, grocery stores and restaurants looking for local summertime help to pick peaches and apples.
But nothing came of the effort, he says. The family tried to work with the labor they had, but production got unsustainably low.
"We went for three or four years resisting the H-2A program because we thought we could do it, but we could not," says Betty Sirles, Wayne's mother. Now Rendleman's team of 30 pickers includes 12 foreign workers on temporary visas who toil in the muggy midsummer heat alongside longtime employees but return to Mexico at the end of the four-month harvest.
As the nation's immigration debate roils, farms like Rendleman are far beyond the question of whether immigrant labor is needed. They say they can't survive without it, their towns are better for it and that reforms are necessary to maintain and replenish the manpower they need to pull in each season's harvest.

U6 unemployment is still above 7% the work participation rate in the U.S. is still at near historic lows. There's nearly 95 million legal American citizens without a job that could work if they had employment.
There are more than enough Americans to fill the job positions employers are needing filled. Stop with your distortions.
The other thing that gets lost in the discussion is there is dignity in work. If we can force people off the dole over time most of these people will begin to take pride in pulling their own weight and will feel better about themselves and their future.

Illegal immigrants have moved on from agriculture. In my state most of them work manufacturing or they own their own business which they get loans for with ITIN. Who would be interested in picking strawberries when they can start a business painting, landscaping......etc.

BTW Jazzhead... I had remodeling done on my home. Almost all of construction is done by Hispanics now. Part of my drywall was done by the contractor Hispanics. Every wall corner is now cracked. And there are many visible places where they didn't even bother to make it smooth. I did the other part myself because the work was so bad. No cracks on my side. So you get what you pay for.

Also, the jobs available are those where the income from them with taxation is insufficient to support a person, given costs of housing, food, etc. If you suggest that perhaps the wages should be raised, and would be raised if there wasn't such a willing labor pool, then that would mean product prices would have to rise.
...but there's this thing called The Invisible Hand, and a merchant can't just unilaterally raise prices just because his costs are high. There's a market price, and if we can't compete, then we can't sell.
And what's to stop our competitors from grabbing lower cost labor and making a more competitive product?
So it's not so simple as many people would try to make it.
Certainly, we have to cut taxation and other business costs. But immigration is going to have to be a big part of being competitive if Americans aren't willing to cut their wages to be competitive.

American employers value their willingness to work for cheap. Get farm labor rates up above welfare rates and you will see "regular Americans" return to the fields (like the '30's, etc.). Get the hourly equivalent (a lot farm labor is paid a "piece rate" above minimum wage) up to $20.-30./hour and you will see people returning to summer farm work. (And yes, I am willing to pay much more for produce)(And grow/pick some myself).

This is true, people in the 80s IQ are regarded as "dull normal", in fact down through the 70s. They have to have a job that is repetitious so decisions don't have to be made. There's another terrifying correlation out there: violence correlates not with poverty, but with wealth inequality. We either go down the sewer of socialist-style wealth redistribution, or we continue on the path of greater wealth inequality and the instability that fosters, or we find a smart solution. Why do I have low hopes for us?
Some of the cyberpunk speculations have come true; some seem laughable. But I can see "have nots" scrambling to survive and turning their desperation against a more and more insular "haves" side of things. All the flag-waving and rah-rah capitalism doesn't answer these questions in and of themselves. We need to have nuanced solutions that employ those tools, but not as crude measures.

We have really screwed our citizens with Free Trade, not fair trade. And those very people who struggle to keep a manufacturing job. Who struggle to pay the mortgage and the property tax increase every election due to increases in education and welfare. The people who struggle are the ones strapped with the burden placed on them by corporations and dirty politics.

There's another terrifying correlation out there: violence correlates not with poverty, but with wealth inequality. We either go down the sewer of socialist-style wealth redistribution, or we continue on the path of greater wealth inequality and the instability that fosters, or we find a smart solution. Why do I have low hopes for us?
Some of the cyberpunk speculations have come true; some seem laughable. But I can see "have nots" scrambling to survive and turning their desperation against a more and more insular "haves" side of things. All the flag-waving and rah-rah capitalism doesn't answer these questions in and of themselves. We need to have nuanced solutions that employ those tools, but not as crude measures.

It opens up a question, though. Our republic is founded to protect natural rights, but are there natural responsibilities, too? Are we our brother's keeper, if we're not Judeo-Christian? That is, does the state have a natural mandate to mandate responsibility?

You may not agree, but I think Obama did a lot to set in motion the "have-nots" wanting what the "haves" had/have. His free phones, etc., set the "have-nots" wanting government to make them equal to the "haves". They get free government services to feed them, house them, give them Obamacare, etc.. I agree that the systemic problems that create this dynamic must be addressed. But the President says that illegal immigrants "infest" this country and are "bad . . . like MS-13". That is condemning folks who are rationally responding to employers seeking their services. And yes, that is appealing to folks' racism, since most illegals are (let's be honest) nonwhite.
Yes, the laws should be enforced, but let's not use hard working folks as pawns in racist agendas (the Dems love to do that; I prefer as a Republican that we not imitate that crapola). Let's not forget the role played by employers in drawing them here, or the policies of government that make it uneconomic to hire "above-ground" workers in many occupations.
Those hard-working folks are already law breakers. That's what illegal means. Look it up.
But the employers who employ illegals need to be dealt with relentlessly. They should be warned, fined and then jailed, if necessary.

The other thing that gets lost in the discussion is there is dignity in work. If we can force people off the dole over time most of these people will begin to take pride in pulling their own weight and will feel better about themselves and their future.
I agree. @bilo There is something rewarding and fulfilling in even menial jobs. Do a days' work, get a days' pay. It's not good for grown men (or women) to sit around getting by on welfare.
It's demeaning and demoralizing. We need to cut the welfare roles for people who can work.

I can't imagine any staff separating a Down Syndrome child from a parent. And equally I think it would be apprehensible for a parent to put a Down Syndrome child at risk to cross the border illegally.

OK, so I really wanted to know about this Down Syndrome child. The Mexican officials say the father is a legal resident who lived 60 miles away. We say we are still evaluating the father and they should. The brother and sister are twins who crossed illegally with the mother.

But latinos already were voting overwhelming for Democrats long before Trump ran for office. So he didn't create those votes -- they were already voting that way. In fact, one of the unexpected storylines out of this last Presidential election was that Trump did better among Latinos than did Romney.

Proving intent on the part of employers is extremely difficult. Immigrant advocates assist illegals with bogus social security numbers, etc.. Employers rely on those documents -- as they must if they don't want to be sued for discrimination -- and it sometimes takes upwards of 6 months for information to be returned saying the numbers are bogus.
Now, your answer to this might be "changed the system so none of that happens -- eVerify, etc.. Add more immigration judges to process claims more quickly." And you're right -- there are solution that would prevent that. The problem is that Democrats oppose those solutions, because they don't want tighter border controls. They deliberately create problems like this so they can pressure the Administration into accepting mass legalization, and a still-unsecured border. That's why we don't get those solutions -- the Democrats don't want them.
So we either cave in to what amounts to open borders, or we enforce the laws as written to try to force a compromise. I support that 100 times out of 100, and if it imposes some hardships on immigrants...well, it must still be better than where they came from, right? If not, they are perfectly free to go right back home whenever they want.

The Rats have thrown all the old standards at Trump, "he's racist", "he's anti women", "he's anti children" and it doesn't stick except with their lunatic fringe. The Rats control the media and get an inordinate amount of air time promoting their vicious attacks of Trump and his family and he is still standing and his popularity is growing.
Trump is different in that he fights back as strongly, or more so, than those who attack him. Sen. Cruz has presented a bill that will keep families together, in custody, until their case is resolved. The Rats rejected it immediately. Watch Trump go on offense pointing this out. I'm in the real estate business and my experience with legal immigrants has been largely positive. The men I interact with are mostly in the trades and they see nothing but streets that are paved with gold. A lot of them have built businesses in the trades and have become very successful. I would love to hire Americans, but the few that are in the trades tend to work at the larger union jobs.
Controlling immigration and having people prioritized based on their skills makes so much sense. The illegals flowing in are disproportionately unskilled and don't speak the language so they end up in the most unskilled, lowest paying, jobs. Of course we aren't going to let children starve, or be on the streets, and next thing you know we have a new underclass that is indoctrinated with the belief that they are being taken advantage of. What a mess of our own making.

I'm pretty sure I am. obama was constantly praised, adored and supported by the media, entertainment, pundits, etc., but the Rats lost the House, Senate, and State govts. hillary was propped up by the same cartel and lost to a brash, abrasive firebrand who is not even a good public speaker. That same attack dog is under constant attack from the same cartel and in most instances isn't fully supported by his own party, but yet his popularity grows. The body politic is changing and middle America (fly over country) is doing it.

I think you're right about that. Not sure he's got enough popularity, but he's definitely doing much better than the media is portraying.

I think this is the rational approach and in time those caught up in the emotion of the moment will see it.
One thing I never accounted for in looking at Trump was how he continues to get his message out despite the best efforts of the media cartel to stop him. He uses twitter. He gives speeches and hold rallies. What I'm coming to realize is he infuses phrases that he knows are going to make the media cartel's heads explode which in turn gets more of his message out.

Proving intent on the part of employers is extremely difficult. Immigrant advocates assist illegals with bogus social security numbers, etc.. Employers rely on those documents -- as they must if they don't want to be sued for discrimination -- and it sometimes takes upwards of 6 months for information to be returned saying the numbers are bogus.
Now, your answer to this might be "changed the system so none of that happens -- eVerify, etc.. Add more immigration judges to process claims more quickly." And you're right -- there are solution that would prevent that. The problem is that Democrats oppose those solutions, because they don't want tighter border controls. They deliberately create problems like this so they can pressure the Administration into accepting mass legalization, and a still-unsecured border. That's why we don't get those solutions -- the Democrats don't want them.
So we either cave in to what amounts to open borders, or we enforce the laws as written to try to force a compromise. I support that 100 times out of 100, and if it imposes some hardships on immigrants...well, it must still be better than where they came from, right? If not, they are perfectly free to go right back home whenever they want.
All true ... BUT if we make a big effort to discourage the employment of illegals, it would help. I doubt if most of them have the valid documents that you suggest, but we could put the fear of God (or Trump) into the employers that they might be fined or sanctioned if caught, then the hiring of illegals to save a little money might lose much of its appeal.
It's worth trying.
