Bill Clinton will campaign for Alison Lundergan Grimes in Kentucky
By Rebecca Berg | FEBRUARY 7, 2014 AT 1:39 PM

Former President Bill Clinton will hit the campaign trail in Kentucky later this month for Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes, who is challenging Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican, in one of the marquee races of the 2014 midterm election cycle.

Clinton "called and said he wanted to make this race his top priority,” Grimes said in an interview with the Courier-Journal confirming Clinton's plans.

The appearance on the stump, at an event in Louisville on Feb. 25, will be the first for Clinton during the midterm election cycle. He plans to be active supporting other Democratic candidates, including Sen. Mark Pryor, of Arkansas.

For Clinton, however, the Kentucky Senate race and Grimes have a unique, personal pull. He is longtime, close friends with Grimes' father, Jerry Lundergan, a former Kentucky Democratic Party chairman.

The news that Clinton will travel to Kentucky is just the latest good news for Grimes this week. A Herald-Leader/WKYT Bluegrass Poll released Thursday showed Grimes leading McConnell in a head-to-head match-up, 46 percent to 42 percent.

More often than not, Bill Clinton proved either toxic or a non-factor whenever he stumped with and/or endorsed a candidate.

It will be interesting to see just how much he's resurrected his star power.

If anybody can distance himself from the White House, it's him.

Well, he did help McAuliff and he does have that southern going for him and the fact Kentucky voters are tired of McConnell.
