Trump Kids’ Aspen Ski Trip Will Require 100 Secret Service Agents: Report
By Stephanie Petit
Posted on March 21, 2017 at 12:26pm EDT
The cost of President Donald Trump‘s grown children’s Aspen ski trip is enraging taxpayers following reports that about 100 Secret Service agents will be brought to protect Donald Jr., Eric and Ivanka Trump and their families.
Quoting anonymous local law enforcement sources, The Aspen Times reported that roughly 100 Secret Service personnel would accompany the first family when they arrived in the ski town over the weekend.
Secret Service agents had communicated with local authorities ahead of the group’s arrival, according to the outlet, though they did not ask for the Aspen Police Department’s assistance during the vacation.
Another source told The Aspen Times that the number of agents would likely be much fewer than 100.
A Secret Service source tells PEOPLE that a total of 100 Secret Service personnel to staff the trip is “reasonable,” given that each of the President’s children plus their spouses and children have security details that must be manned in three daily shifts to provide 24-hour security.
But the organization itself would not confirm or deny the number of agents assigned to the Trump children in Aspen.

No, what I will say is this is the same media that refused to report on the extravagance of the previous president.
One day you guys will get back to turning your fire on the left.
-
I see this has now become important to the media again.
-
Why does it require 100?

I find it interesting that Trump fans don't seem bothered by the tax money paying for all these trips. True, they may have objected when it was Obama it, but they have nothing to say when their hero Trump and his family are doing it.
Of course, the media was silent when it was Obama pillaging the Treasury and yes, we objected to it. But the media bias is a distraction from the real issue. No president of either party should be ripping off the taxpayers to this extent. If Trump fans think it's ok for the royal family to squander the taxpayers' hard earned money, then they are hypocrites. Do they perhaps have plenty of money themselves that they have no objection to a president spending their tax dollars to such an extent? If so, I wish they would share some of their money with the rest of us. I'm doing ok, but I know a number of hard-pressed taxpayers who could use the money.

Well I don't consider myself a Trumpfan, but I'm all ears.
What would you like me to do? Would wringing my hands be enough?
-
8 hr. shifts for each individual. That includes the children and their children.
24/7 protection
-

And you just watch. Next they'll suddenly start to care "again" about US military deaths.
Funny how they haven't given a crap for the past eight years, though. About any of it.

Heavens no. Nothing short of gnashing of teeth and rolling fits on the floor will satisfy them when it concerns The Don. You know.... it's a special kind of "concern" now.

Well, I'm just happy and relieved the Trump family will be protected @Applewood They are, after all, our First Family --- ^-^

I think you are too optimistic

I agree.

But having Malia go to Mejico was no problem, right? How many SS agents to Hawaii? Martha's Vineyard? How about the Africa trip?
Shut up already...damned hypocrites and scum in the media.

I can't state this as a fact, but I suspect there is one fundamental difference between 0 and DT. DT and family are probably just living their lives the way they did before, though now requiring SS protection at the cost of the taxpayers (well, the taxpayers' great great grandchildren). I seriously doubt 0's family took 47 vacations a year before they had the ability to pay for it with other people's money.
Maybe it's hypoctrical of me to treat two people differently for doing basically the same thing, but I think their intent matters.

These are wealthy grown ups. Sasha and Malia were minors.
-
They are going to have 100 agents in Aspen but they can't find one or two dudes to keep an eye on the fence at the WH? If I were Donny, I would be hanging out at Mar a Lago with a private security team till the Secret Service gets their act together.
-
They're not the President. They're not even government officials. The Secret Service has no business giving them personal protection, free or otherwise.
-
The Odumbos are in several places at any given time. Malia inNYC, Hussein in Tahiti, the Mooch, mom and Sasha presumably in DC, and we're paying for &%×# all of it.

Whether or not the taxpayers should be paying for this family, or any other president's family, leisure time is a fair question.
However, the left & media are drumming up an intense and unprecedented hatred for the man and his family. And as we know, when enough pressure is applied the left is inclined to commit acts of violence. I believe there is a real danger of that now that did not exist during Obama's term.
-
Part of my issue with DT's security is the fact that up until he ran for president he paid for his own security. Bragged non stop about how rich he was, etc ,etc. and now he is asking us to provide security for him, his three wives, his many children and their children.

So part of being Conservative now is only electing Presidential candidates with small families to save a couple bucks on protection. Gotcha.

What he's going to do is saddle republicans with the "most expensive presidency ever" label and the democrats will happily try to top it because Trump did it.

Well since you are in the know, can you tell us how much Donny's Presidency has cost us so far in comparison to the last 6 Presidents?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I agree with Restored above (reply 4).
Yes, some SS protection is required.
But... 100 of 'em?
Surely, the Trumps have their own security as well (bodyguards, etc.).
Aside:
Then again, there's probably a lot of TDS on the expensive ski slopes of Colorado...

My impression of Aspen was that the former silver mining town went pretty hard left when it became trendy.
When security has to cover everything from the kitchen to any vantage points that could provide a line of fire they have a lot to keep an eye on, while any 'bad guy' only has to get it right once.

If you are comparing to the previous management, http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2866299/President-Obama-charges-taxpayers-1-7-MILLION-one-night-hotel-stay-G20-summit-Australia.html (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2866299/President-Obama-charges-taxpayers-1-7-MILLION-one-night-hotel-stay-G20-summit-Australia.html)
$1.7 million (one night in Brisbane)
2.9 million one night in Brussels (just hotels and rental cars, not full cost)
Consider vehicles are flown in or stripped down and inspected, rooms are stripped down and inspected, swept for bugs, etc. There is a lot more to this than a couple of guys with 18 inch necks and earwigs in dark suits, and the most serious aspects will not end up on TV, especially if they are effective.

This is the reality of the job. There are any number of people that would like to take out Trump and/or his family as a result of Trump's service to the country. Securing people traveling outside of fixed secured locations is very difficult and only getting more so with modern communications, drones, etc.
My only issue is that those being protected need to understand that they cannot go wherever they like and they need to limit their travels to what is practical and not outrageously expensive to secure. There are limits. They also need to limit how often they take these sort of trips. This compromise comes with the job their father sought and won and that should be understood as one of the consequences of it.
So thinking about it, what should really happen is an overall 4 year budget should be setup by congress for this purpose and the people being secured need to live within it when used for recreational purposes. If they want to travel more than the budget allows then they can kick in what goes over the budget.
