Title: UN Struggles with Data Suggesting No Global Warming
Post by: happyg on August 21, 2013, 02:13:26 pm
The United Nations, ever eager to embrace global warming, has a new climate report to be released that claims scientists are more certain than ever that global warming is real, but now there is hard evidence that global surface temperatures have stabilized over the last 15 years according to the U.K.’s weather-watching Met Office.

In June, David Whitehouse of the Global Warming Policy Foundation wrote, "The absence of any significant change in the global annual average temperature over the past 16 years has become one of the most discussed topics in climate science. It has certainly focused the debate about the relative importance of greenhouse gas forcing of the climate versus natural variability."

Of course, climate change advocates are trying their best to offer an explanation for the lack of global warming; a draft of the AR5 report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is due to be published in Oct. 2014, tries its best to address the situation. As Reuters environment correspondent Alister Doyle cited from the report:

Scientists believe causes could include: greater-than-expected quantities of ash from volcanoes, which dims sunlight; a decline in heat from the sun during a current 11-year solar cycle; more heat being absorbed by the deep oceans; or the possibility that the climate may be less sensitive than expected to a build-up of carbon dioxide.

The draft hedges its bets, stating that it has “medium confidence: that the global warming halt is due “in roughly equal measure” to the aforementioned factors.

The U.N. hurriedly tried to hedge its bets, too, saying of the draft:

The text is likely to change in response to comments from governments received in recent weeks and will also be considered by governments and scientists at a four-day approval session at the end of September. It is therefore premature and could be misleading to attempt to draw conclusions from it.

But just as the report stated that 95% of scientists believe that man’s actions cause global warming, climate change advocates quickly reasserted their belief in their omniscience; climate scientist Michael Mann wrote, “The report is simply an exclamation mark on what we already knew: Climate change is real and it continues unabated, the primary cause is fossil fuel burning, and if we don’t do something to reduce carbon emissions we can expect far more dangerous and potentially irreversible impacts on us.”

"But we've already decided globull warming is true!  How else to control people and demonstrate the need for a one-world government?"

(don worry.  they'll think of sumting.)

The data not only suggest no global warming, they strongly hint at a cooling trend. Antarctic ice is at a record high continues to expand. The Arctic melt this year was significantly lower than average in recent years and ended several weeks earlier than normal (see historical data graph, below). Further, there has been no measurable rise in global surface or atmospheric temperatures for 17 years, which predates the current solar cycle.

CO2 levels continue to rise, but one must consider that CO2 comprises only 0.038% of the Earth's atmosphere, the human contribution to which is less than 4%, and the US/Canadian component of which is less than 17%. Even shutting down all American industry and banning petroleum-based transportation would not have a noticeable effect on the climate, not to mention that a portion of the already-miniscule American contribution to atmospheric CO2 comes not from industry, but from land use (agriculture).

Charlatans like Michael Mann know all this, or have reason to know, but persist in their false alarmism in pursuit of money and power.

There you go again, using facts. Communists will have none of that. It's a matter of faith to them.

And, sadly, the American people will be fooled by the media.

If you're on Facebook, there's a group you can join which offers a lot of good information debunking the manmade climate change myth: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2374404880/

Well, there is also the issue of where they are taking their measurements. The observatory most commonly referenced in models and literature as the reference for the CO2/AGW link is on Mauna Loa.

Mauna Loa is an active volcano-- not only that, but it is one that has thin magma, meaning it is constantly spewing gas and lava into the atmosphere. (This is opposed to thick-magma volcanoes, which lay dormant for decades, then spontaneously explode with great force; those are the more famous ones, since they tend to cause catastrophe.) Mauna Loa is also known to be approaching a Pacific hot spot, meaning its output has been rising. If you wanted to select any site in the world to generate CO2 readings higher than reality, a thin-magma volcano like Mauna Loa is practically perfect. Note that despite global CO2 output typically varying widely depending on the economy, Mauna Loa shows no such variation, just a steady upward march.

Every climate model that is predicting massive warming in the next couple of centuries is assuming that the Mauna Loa numbers are accurate and that CO2 is on an uncontrollable upward trend.

Garbage in, garbage out.

And the EPA measures auto emission levels at the local bus garage. Nothing new there!

GIGO is one of the most prevalent problems, period.

I was a kid living in Louisville in the late 60's.  You didn't go outside because the air was so thick w/ auto exhaust that it made your eyes water.

Now that was  pollution...
