LAKELAND, Fla. — A Lakeland husband and wife face aggravated manslaughter charges after the Polk County Sheriff's Office said an 18-month-old was left strapped in a car seat overnight in extreme heat.

Sheriff Grady Judd said the couple went to a Fourth of July celebration in Lakeland with three children, including the toddler, and didn't return home until about 3 a.m. Tuesday.
"The pair consumed alcohol and smoked marijuana while at the party," the sheriff's office said in a news release.
When they returned home, according to Judd, Jazmine told Joel to bring the female toddler inside while she brought the two other children inside. He saw the doors to their car closed and assumed Jazmine had taken the toddler inside, Judd said.
At about 11 a.m. the father asked one of his children to check on the toddler, and realized then that the child was still strapped inside the vehicle.

“Seventeen hours after arriving home from the party, Jazmine tests positive for alcohol and marijuana. Joel tests positive for alcohol, marijuana, and methamphetamines,” Judd noted. “Seventeen hours later — So you can imagine what kind of shape they were in when they arrived from this party and left this child harnessed in the baby seat.”
This was one thing that struck me when I saw the OP article. They arrived at home at 2 AM after shopping (I doubt they drank and toked while in whatever store), discovered their cooked kid 9 hours later at 11 AM, and however many hours after emergency vehicles were called, arrived, and the child's egg- and sperm-donors were arrested, they still tested positive for alcohol and drugs.
I have three, now grown, munchkins. They were never forgotten and left in our car for hours and hours - not in the somewhat temperate South SF Bay Area, not when we visited my parents in the hot-summer Central Valley. Cooked Kid incidents like are 9999hair out0000 !

Just the thought of it makes me sick. They should be treated to the same horrors they inflicted on that poor child.
