For the past couple of years, the BBC and the rest of the media have banging the drum about Mediterranean wildfires, claiming that they are now much worse than ever before thanks to climate change.

The full data has now been published by the EU, and it proves you have been lied to!

Last year the burnt area was only average, and the year before was nothing exceptional either:

Wind turbines could steal as much as 38% of the power off turbines downwind and even from ones 50 kilometers away

By Jo Nova

The more wind turbines we have the more useless they are
There goes those plans to cover the continental shelf with talismen to the Wind Gods.

New research shows wind turbines off the East Coast of the US could end up stealing as much as a third of the energy from other wind turbines downstream. And in some conditions, the turbulent wake they leave might stretch out 55 kilometers behind them. This effect is worst on turbines in the same “farm” but could even affect other wind farms a long way off.

The wake effect will be strongest in summer. We’ll just have to ask everyone to turn off their air conditioners then?

Scientific civilizations do this sort of research before they commit $10 trillion dollars, set up a trading scheme, and blow up the coal plants. Imagine if building a coal plant near another plant made it 30% less efficient on hot days…

Hillary Clinton Group Wired $500K To Radical Climate Activists Behind Destructive Protests
by Gabe Kaminsky  5 hours ago in News, Protests Reading Time: 3 mins read

A progressive group founded by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton cut a large check recently to a climate change activist hub [that finances] organizations behind disruptive anti-oil protests, bringing the total cash transfers to at least $500,000, records show.

Onward Together, which Clinton launched after losing the 2016 election, says it’s “committed to lifting up emerging organizations and leaders who are fighting for our shared progressive values and defending our democracy.”

That pledge apparently includes funding the Climate Emergency Fund, a charity backing groups leading demonstrations to bring awareness to climate change by vandalizing fine art, blocking major roads, gluing themselves to sports cars, and engaging in other extremist forms of protest.

Biden’s Green Housing Mandates Are Pushing Americans Deeper Into The Red
by E.J. Antoni  5 hours ago

Home prices across the nation are back up near a record high.

That makes this a particularly bad time for the Biden administration to have rolled out its new “green” energy mandates, which will add $31,000 to the cost of a new home. [emphasis, links added]

The mandates are being pushed through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and while they technically won’t apply to all homes, all home builders will effectively be forced to comply with them.

The Biden administration doesn’t deny this higher upfront cost. It simply claims it’ll pay for itself via lower energy bills. Unfortunately, the breakeven point is 90 years.

Nearly three years after a former Texas deputy was fired for posting photos at the deadly Jan. 6, 2021 riots at the Capitol, she’s receiving a nearly $400,000 settlement from her former employer, according to officials.

Former Bexar County Lt. Roxanne Mathai sued the county and Sheriff Javier Salazar for violating her First and 14th amendment rights, according to court documents.

Mathai had been a county jailer for the last nine years, earning a lieutenant rank in 2020.

She was also a “passionate supporter” of former President Donald Trump and had “repeatedly made public statements in support of him and MAGA (Make America Great Again) on social media platforms such as Facebook,” according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit said she was “wrongfully” fired months after attending the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection in Washington, D.C.

Despite settling the case, Salazar stands by her termination, according to KSAT.

“The termination in this case was done within policy and was upheld by an arbitrator. The decision to issue a settlement was made outside the BCSO. There was no wrongdoing on the part of the administration, and I stand by our actions,” the sheriff said in a statement to the outlet.

’Documenting history’

With permission from an assistant chief deputy, Mathai jetted off to the nation’s capital on Jan. 5, 2021 to join friends in support of Trump, according to the complaint.

She arrived at Ellipse Park donning a Trump flag as a cape around 7 a.m. to attend the “Save America Rally” where Trump infamously told supporters to “stop the steal” ahead of Congress’ certification of the 2024 election.

Mathai “eagerly” watched the former president speak before following the large crowds toward the Capitol building, according to court documents.

EVs: The Reckoning Begins

Irina Slav on energy Substack is described as “All things energy. Challenging the dominant narrative because facts matter”.   Her latest article “Post Ridiculous” describes the possible last straw for EV adoption.

Slav introduces her post with an extraordinary quote admitting that all is not right for EVs:

“We can’t push EVs into the market against demand.” Thus spoke the head of Ford’s European operations this week, commenting on the company’s plans to start diverting ICE car deliveries from the UK to the continent. Why? Because the UK has EV sales goals and if carmakers don’t align their business with these goals, they face substantial penalties.

“We are not going to sell EVs at huge losses just to buy compliance. The only alternative is to take our shipments of [engine] vehicles to the UK down and sell these vehicles somewhere else,” the brave man, by the name of Martin Sander, said, speaking at the FT’s Future of the Car conference in London.

Wall Street Journal: Companies are Balking at the High Cost of Running Electric Trucks.
6 hours ago Charles Rotter 20 Comments

The Wall Street Journal recently published an incisive analysis regarding the economic and operational challenges of adopting electric trucks in the logistics sector. The report, based on a study by Ryder Systems, casts doubt on the prevailing enthusiasm for zero-emission vehicles in the freight industry and presents a detailed critique of the assumptions underpinning this shift.

Evaluating the Economic Feasibility
Electric trucks, especially the heavier models, present a substantial economic challenge compared to traditional diesel vehicles. Robert Sanchez, CEO of Ryder, highlights a significant disparity in the cost-effectiveness of these vehicles: “The economics just don’t work for most companies”. This statement reflects the broader industry reluctance to invest in electric trucks, which, despite their potential environmental benefits, fail to offer a viable economic case under current conditions.

The WSJ article points out that even with the promise of cleaner operations, the actual numbers tell a different story:

“As trucks get heavier the difference in operating costs between battery-electric vehicles and diesel trucks grows more pronounced,”

The Cost of EPA’s Senseless CO2 Capture
2 hours ago Guest Blogger 6 Comments

In April 24, 2024, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) passed a new rule that would require coal power plants that plan to continue operating after January 1, 2039, and new natural gas power plants that plan to begin operation on or after 2035 to capture at least 90% of their CO2 emissions.

How much would this cost? And is it worth it?

Well, as they say, we ran the numbers. Thankfully, researchers from the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) have provided the cost and performance estimates for retrofitting an existing coal power plant with Shell’s CANSOLV CO2 capture system.

For the performance and cost estimates, I will use the NETL estimates for 90% carbon capture. (Here, I am using the term “carbon capture,” rather than “CO2 capture,” because NETL uses the mass of carbon, rather than the mass of CO2, in its calculations.)
