A life-threatening severe weather outbreak is unfolding in the Midwest on Thursday afternoon, the FOX Forecast Center said as meteorologists track tornado-warned storms marching across the region.

Destructive winds of 100-plus mph have been reported with the storms blasting Missouri, Illinois and Iowa on Thursday morning.

A spotter reported a gust of 90 mph in Adrian, Illinois, just after 11 a.m. CDT from their home weather station, with an estimated gust of 100 mph, according to a National Weather Service storm report. Nearby, another spotter in Adrian reported a full-size barn was destroyed, and full-size trees were blown to the east.

Millions of Americans could be impacted by severe thunderstorms that could produce large hail, damaging wind gusts and possible tornadoes. Chicago is one of the cities that could be slammed with severe weather, and the threat comes just after the Windy City was deemed to have the worst air quality in the world. Air quality alerts have again been posted for more than 100 million Americans because of wildfire smoke filtering into the U.S. from Canada.

Wasn't bad here in the Florida of Iowa, but it always seems to blow up when it crosses the Mississippi.

The damage reports are extensive.  Generally 60-90 mph gusts with the squall, although I suspect the surveys will find more.  https://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/reports/today.html

It's bearing down on Terre Haute now, and Bloomington in maybe an hour.
