Authorities in Maine are investigating two active shooter events and a suspect remains at large, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office said in a post on Facebook.
“We are encouraging all businesses to lock down and or close while we investigate,” the sheriff’s office said.
Maine State Police also said they are responding to an active shooter situation in Lewiston in a post on Facebook.
“Please stay inside your home with the doors locked,” state police said. “If you see any suspicious activity or individuals please call 911.”
Lewiston is about 36 miles north of Portland.

Active shooter situation with multiple injuries at multiple locations in Lewiston, Maine
Police in Lewiston, Maine are responding to an active shooter and have issued a photo of the suspect brandishing a long rifle entering a bowling alley
Police audio suggested two locations were affected: Schemengee's bar and grill, and Sparetime bowling alley
It is unclear how many people have been injured, if any

Police are hunting for a gunman who reportedly opened fire at three separate locations in Lewiston, Maine, and are warning local residents to remain in their homes.
A photo issued by sheriffs showed a white man entering the Sparetime recreation center with a long rifle, wearing black combat trousers and a brown top. His face is clearly visible.
'There is an active shooter situation in the city of Lewiston,' said Maine state police.
'Law enforcement is asking people to shelter in place. Please stay inside your home with the doors locked.'
Police audio said the two locations were Schemengee's bar and grill, and Sparetime recreation center. The two sites are around four miles apart, in Maine's second-largest city.
Police were then called to a third location, a Walmart distribution center, said Derrick St. Laurent, a Lewiston spokesman.

Just horrible. Husband told me in the last hour.
My uncle lived there a good while till moving 20 years ago permanently north about half hour.
Lots of Somali Moslems now. My aunt apologizes for them being a Canadian liberal.
But, I fear this may be an anti-Moslem atrocity, due to the high % and the Pali support being pushed all over the country.
So, this could be a long and bumpy ride once again for conservatives.

Maine has Constitutional carry, folks.
They issue permits for reciprocity purposes.
It IS illegal for someone not an employee or an on-duty LEO to carry in a bar there.
Don't know if Sparetime Recreation serves beer, some bowling alleys do in a facility adjacent to or part of the bowling area, but if so, that would likely come under the same prohibitions as any bar..
Not sure about WalMart policies.

Card, who is twice divorced and a father of three children, has a history of arrests for domestic violence and other crimes. One of his ex-wives obtained a restraining order against him.
While Card identifies as an independent politically, reports suggest he may have voted for Barack Obama in the past.

CNN is starting the spin for a possible narrative ....
And though Maine is the whitest state in the nation, according to the 2020 census, immigrant communities have grown in size recently, as well as in other states including Minnesota, Ohio, and Washington.
Between 2017 and 2021, more than 7% of Lewiston residents were foreign-born, according to the census — still lower than the national average of nearly 14%. And in those years, 19% of Lewiston residents spoke a language other than English at home.

Anyone who goes on a killing spree like this in a civilian context has mental health issues. It would be difficult to come up with a scenario where that would not be the case.

I know it's not a popular position on this board, but cases like this are why properly drafted red flag laws, which allow the person being flagged due process to challenge the claim that mental illness, a history of domestic violence, or the like make it appropriate to forbid his or her possession of firearms, should be on the books in each of the several states.
The abominations, rightly decried on this board, in which a mere accusation allows the police to seize a person's firearms have no place in our Constitutional order, but we have many laws that provide for people to be deprived of rights on the basis of an adversarial process in which they can defend themselves against claims against them (whether criminal or civil). A properly drafted red flag law would simply be one more (think of it as regulating the militia by keeping people who should have place in it because they are insane or are violent toward their family out of it).

I’d have so many questions about it.
Starting with, by what right does the government simply confiscate firearms or anything else based on “red flag”?
Will it be compensated?

Unlike most of our mass murders, this is clearly a “mental case”.
But again I will say conservatives need to stop countering the “guns!” Argument with “mental illness” reasoning.
As with most ills, this is a systemic cultural problem. Most of these killers aren’t likely “mental” but morally depraved and spoiled. Such narcissism has become the way we raise and handle people, especially if the protected classes. (And libs should know that their celebration of groups while denigrating 1 group will likely lead to resentment and retaliation, eventually.)

Mayor orders residents to ‘stay home, keep your doors locked’
By Olivia Land
Auburn Mayor Jason Levesque urged all residents to “stay home" and "keep your doors locked” as the manhunt continued Thursday for the mass shooter.
"We're telling all of our residents just to shelter in place," Levesque told the "Today" show.
“We’ve canceled all the schools in the area, so there will be no school today,” he said.
Auburn is located just across the river from Lewiston, where person of interest Robert Card is suspected of opening fire at a bowling alley and nearby bar. Police have yet to give an exact tally of the dead, with reports ranging from 16 to 22.
“Stay vigilant, report anything that seems out of the ordinary at this point,” Levesque told residents.
Shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday, Maine State Police extended the shelter-in-place advisory and school closings to Bowdoin, about 25 minutes from the scene of the shooting.

My heart grieves for the victims and their families in Maine.
But before we start talking about taking everyone's guns away - especially when pro-Hamas groups are marching in our streets - let's answer some basic questions:
1) What psychological medications was this insane person on?
2) What was he saying when he was INSTITUTIONALIZED just a few months ago?
3) Who determined he was ready to be released?
4) What existing laws went unenforced to enable him to go on his killing spree?

Suspect Robert Card ‘truly believed he was hearing people say things’ about him at bowling alley, bar murder sites, family says
By Olivia Land and
Kaydi Pelletier
Updated Oct. 26, 2023, 12:10 p.m. ET
Eighteen people were killed in Lewiston, Maine, when a gunman opened fire in a bowling alley and a nearby bar Wednesday night, local police officials and Gov. Janet Mills said during a news briefing Thursday morning.
Robert Card, 40, has now been named a suspect in the deadly shooting, and is still on the loose as cops have 8 murder warrants out for his arrest.
At least 13 others were injured in the carnage that began around 7 p.m. Wednesday, officials said at the press conference — though earlier reports had the injured number around 50.
Card, originally of Bowdoin, Maine, should be considered “armed and dangerous,” officials reiterated Thursday, urging anyone who thinks they’ve spotted him not to approach, and to contact police immediately.
Card is a trained firearms instructor in the Army Reserve, law enforcement sources in the state said Wednesday night. He was stationed out of a National Guard base in Saco, Maine, which he had threatened to shoot up the sources said.
Card had reported “hearing voices” recently, and was reportedly committed to a mental health facility over the summer but was released after a two-week stay.

Maine gun laws: The state does not require background checks on all firearm sales
By Olivia Land
Maine’s gun laws are under scrutiny after a gunman opened fire at a bowling alley and a bar in Lewiston Wednesday night, killing at least 18 and injuring 60 more.
Maine does not require background checks for all gun purchases, “making it easy for prohibited purchasers to access guns, no questions asked,” according to Everytown for Gun Safety, the gun violence prevention organization that aims to "end gun violence" "by introducing evidence-based solutions." It keeps records of current gun laws in each U.S. state.
The Pine Tree State also does not have an Extreme Risk or “red flag” law, which allows family or police to petition the court to temporarily prevent an individual from buying a gun on the grounds that they are a risk to themselves and others, Everytown says.
Robert Card, the person of interest in the Lewiston rampage, is an Army Reservist firearms instructor who had reportedly been under psychiatric care in the months before the massacre.
Maine has not banned high-capacity magazines, and does not require domestic abusers to relinquish their firearms even if they are under a restraining order, according to Everytown.

So the Federal background check for firearm purchases doesn't exist in Maine? Is individual gun sales between Maine residents allowed without Federal Background checks or is this just more inane gunshow rhetoric from anti gunners trying to push their agenda using a tragedy?

Literally impossible outside of complete lockdown. And even in that I would bet you I could buy guns... With ease. All these stupid laws do is take guns away from the law-abiding.
Being reasonably street-wise and street connected, you could not prevent me from re-arming... with a vengeance. And I ain't all that.
Give me 500 bucks and put me in any city in the US and I will be able to buy a piece in a day or two... A week on the outside. More laws will never cure that.

Red flag laws are actually irrelevant in this instance. The alleged perpetrator had a record of domestic violence, which is a disqualifier for firearms ownership.

(And libs should know that their celebration of groups while denigrating 1 group will likely lead to resentment and retaliation, eventually.)
You have a valid point. Catering to mental illnesses (or at least 'conditions which were formerly officially recognized as such) is a large part of the problem When their condition meets with resistance to being 'celebrated' (i.e. getting special treatment because of that condition), then the problem all too often becomes violent.
Feeding that by making the patient into a 'victim',definitely feeds the mindset, and the entire apocalyptic approach of late, of "It's us or them", "You're part of the solution or part of the problem", They are out to commit genocide against US", system of false dichotomous thinking that of late passes for logic and is heavily entrenched in the rhetoric of today's politics could readily lead to violent incidents.
Everything is seen as some battle, with failure to prevail leading to an apocalyptic outcome, which, incidentally, is one of the prime characteristics of doomsday cult mentality.
It is time to tone down the rhetoric if we are to remain civilized, especially in Media, but that is something that I do not see as forthcoming. Instead, the divisions are emphasized, along racial, religious, cultural, down to even sexual preference barriers, and all are pitted against the other, with the assurance that anyone not in complete agreement is an existential enemy who is out to 'get them'. Under those circumstances, regardless of means or methodology, violence is practically assured. Firearms are just one tool, mobs are another, and all the various means of inflicting life threatening or lethal trauma are somehow justified by hurt feelings.
This has been developing for decades, and it's going to take a generation or two to back it down, short of decisive action against perpetrators that will make those particular crimes an unviable option.

Federal law:
The Lautenberg Amendment makes it a felony for anyone convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence such as an assault or attempted assault on a family member, to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
This was covered by law, regardless of what Maine Laws are.

It sure seems like the latter.
Just what we need is another Federal Law that will be ignored, because other Federal laws were ignored.
Enough, already.

Thank the ACLU and democrats for that, rather than eliminate facilities that actually were snake pits they pretty much eliminated almost every facility because it was violating the rights of the mentally ill to give them the care they needed and dumping them on the streets was sooo much better....and cheaper.

Law enforcement yells 'You are under arrest. Hands in the air' at residence connected to Robert Card
Law enforcement officers yelled over a bullhorn "You are under arrest. Hands in the air" at a residence connected to Robert Card.
“We would like to speak to you. Walk to the front of the truck with nothing in your hands. We want to do this safely for you and everyone else," a law enforcement officer could be heard yelling.
"Come out with your hands in the air and walk to the front of driveway. Again, you are under arrest. Please come out of the house now," the law enforcement officer can be heard saying.
Officers specifically shouted Robert's name.
The Maine State Police put out a Facebook post shortly after, stating that they don't know if Card is inside the residence.
"Law enforcement officials are currently on Meadow Road in the town of Bowdoin to execute several search warrants. The announcements that are being heard over a loud speaker are standard search warrant announcements when executing a warrant to ensure the safety of all involved. It is unknown whether Robert Card is in any of the homes law enforcement will search. Law enforcement officials are simply doing their due diligence by tracking down every lead in an effort to locate and apprehend Card," the Maine State Police wrote.
The incident happened at a property connected to Card in Bowdoin, Maine.
A police helicopter is circling the residence.
Officers previously left the area before coming back a short time later.
Card is a suspect in Wednesday's mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, which left 18 individuals dead and another 13 injured.

Mysterious note found at home of Maine shooting suspect Robert Card
By Jorge Fitz-Gibbon
Published Oct. 26, 2023, 6:39 p.m. ET
Investigators uncovered a mysterious note at the home of suspected Maine mass shooter Robert Card — as the US Coast Guard joins the massive manhunt for the fugitive.
The discovery was made as authorities executed a search warrant at Card’s disheveled house in Bowdoin Thursday, according to NBC News — one day after police said the unhinged US Army Reservist killed 18 people and wounded 13 others in two mass shootings in Lewiston.
Investigators are trying to determine if the note, the contents of which were not revealed, provides any answers to the motive behind the Wednesday night bloodbath, the outlet said.
Meanwhile, the Coast Guard has launched a surveillance plane and boats out of Boothbay to join the manhunt for the accused mass killer that already includes local, county, state and federal agents, Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Third-Class Diolanda Caballero told NBC.
Card’s car was found near a boat launch in Lisbon nearly 8 miles from the shootings, authorities said.

Alleged Maine Attacker Used a ‘Legally’ Purchased Sniper Rifle
AWR Hawkins 27 Oct 2023
The alleged attacker who killed 18 and wounded 13 Wednesday night in Lewiston, Maine, used a “legally” purchased sniper rifle chambered in .308.
A .308 is an extremely popular hunting round used for large game. By contrast, an AR-15 uses 5.56 rounds–or .223–both of which are much smaller than a .308.
During live programming, FOX News reported, “The gun used was [a] sniper rifle purchased legally this year.”
The New York Post likewise noted that police indicated shooting suspect Robert Card “legally purchased a sniper rifle with .308 caliber bullets, the weapons [sic] believed to have been used in the attack.”
When law enforcement speaks of “legally” purchasing a gun the reference normally indicates that a background check was passed.
This immediately raises two questions: 1) Did Card’s mental evaluation at a West Point hospital in mid-July 2023 not reach the level of an involuntary commitment? or 2) Did someone drop the ball in reporting an involuntary commitment to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) to prevent passage of a background check?
A NICS background check begins with the would-be gun buyer filling out ATF transaction record form 4473. Question G on the form asks, “Have you ever been adjudicated as a mental defective OR have you ever been committed to a mental institution?” If the would-be buyer answers “yes” to this question he is barred from purchasing the firearm.

'sniper' rifle...
Look if it can't be a scary 'black' AR15 than thank God for the media's sake we can use a scary term like 'sniper rifle' AKA any accurate rifle with a scope  Hell a competent shooter can use any caliber rifle as a sniper rifle. But OOOH! SCARY! 'SNIPER RIFLE'.
Once again neither Biden or any other democrat is talking about the real issue, not guns, mental health. Someone that flips their lid and decides to start killing people doesn't need a gun to do it, like suicide there are many ways to achieve the goal.

A .308... Probably still (though at least erstwhile) the most popular deer rifle on the planet...
Deer hunters are now all snipers.
What does that make Bighorn or mountain goat hunters? Elk hunters? and everyone else that can operate in excess of 150 yards?

"Real" Snipers use .50 BMG or .338 Lapua or 6.5 Creedmor or some such. Yes, 'designated shooters' and snipers use .308, too, but the real long range guys use more.
I think just because it was a larger round than the 5.56/.223 the media ran with more disinformation. You don't need a sniper rifle to shoot up a bar, and only a few have been semi-automatic (Barrett, Dragunov, Arsenal reworked M1 Garands and M-14s)

Well that was the best ending one could hope for. Hate to say that, but that is what I thought.
Why did they ban hunting, they had his suicide note and his 308 rifle was left in his truck. Seems unconstitutional to stop hunting. I mean I sorta understand not wanting "false alarms" with hunting sounds, but would think that it wasn't something that could be dealt with other than asking to not hunt locally.

Lewiston, Maine mass shooting suspect Robert Card has been found dead, law enforcement sources tell the Associated Press.
A law enforcement source tells Fox News Digital that Card was found dead as a result of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound near a dumpster at a recycling plant where he worked at one point point in Lisbon, Maine.
Card is the primary suspect in Wednesday's mass shooting in Lewiston at Schemengees Bar and Grille and the Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley which left 18 people dead and another 13 injured.
A press conference is scheduled for 10 p.m.
Fox News' Jacqui Heinrich, CB Cotton and the Associated Press contributed to this report.

Public safety commissioner reveals details of note left by Lewiston, Maine, gunman
By WBZ-News (https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/lewiston-maine-gunman-robert-card-left-note/)Staff
October 28, 2023 / 2:30 PM / CBS Boston
LEWISTON, Maine - While authorities say Robert Card didn't leave an "explicit suicide note," he did leave a "a paper-style note."
The 40-year-old gunman in the mass shootings that killed 18 people and injured 13 others in Lewiston, Maine, was found in a trailer near a recycling plant in Lisbon on Friday night. Authorities said Card died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police searched for Card for two days before he was found.
Earlier that day, authorities found a note in Card's Bowdoin home, I-Team sources reported. The note, said Maine Department of Public Safety Commissioner Mike Sauschuck, was to a loved one and left bank account numbers and the password to his phone.
"I wouldn't describe it as an explicit suicide note, but the tone and tenor was that the individual was not going to be around and wanted to make sure that this loved one had access to his phone and whatever was in his phone."
Sauschuck said authorities were working on getting into Card's phone as part of the investigation. Police said 820 tips have come in, and police have completed a dozen search warrants.

Report: Police Alerted in Mid-September that Alleged Maine Shooter Could ‘Snap’
AWR Hawkins 30 Oct 2023
A report from CNN indicates the Maine National Guard asked police to check on Robert Card in mid-September out of concerns that he could “snap and commit a mass shooting.”
Personnel from “the Sagadahoc County and Kennebec County Sheriff’s Offices” responded to the Maine National Guard request by trying to make contact with Card on September 16, 2023.
A sergeant from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office was alerted, “When [he] answers the door at his trailer, in the past he usually does so with a handgun in hand out of view from the person outside.”
The personnel from the sheriff’s offices were not successful in making contact. CNN notes that a document filed with the welfare check paperwork makes clear that at least one of Card’s fellow guardsman was “concerned that [the reservist] is going to snap and commit a mass shooting.”
Breitbart News noted on October 26, 2023, that police in New York took Card to a West Point hospital for an evaluation in mid-July 2023.
Card had caught the attention of military officials after “acting erratically in mid-July” while taking part in training at West Point, the Associated Press reported. Police in New York were called and Card was taken to West Point’s Keller Army Community Hospital.
The involvement of police in the West Point incident raised questions as to why Maine’s yellow flag law did not come into play.
Breitbart News noted that Maine has a yellow flag law that allows police to petition for temporary confiscation of a person’s firearms. And Maine Public Radio (MPR) explained that the state’s yellow flag law had been used 22 times to take away guns during the time frame of 2020 thru June of 2022. MPR suggested the yellow flag law “could be a model for gun control.”
The news of sheriffs’ offices being alerted that Card could “snap and commit a mass shooting” in mid-September only brings up the question again: How is it that Maine’s yellow flag law was not triggered?
Card is suspected of shooting a total of 18 people to death on October 25, 2023, in Lewiston, Maine. He was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound two days later.

Especially when the "mass shooter" is of pale skin tone. Then it's really acceptable.

Right. The more mainstream they can make the guy appear in the press, the more they can build the PSYOP case that ordinary people should not have "assault weapons".
This guy was far from ordinary (considering that ordinary (as in "normal") folks don't go on homicidal rampages), and had tripped a bunch of flags that they let go, but that won't stop them from building a false narrative, partly to continue the anti-gun PSYOP, and partly to cover their asses.
The only thing that can stop that is the persistent revelation of the truth, through whatever means available.

The Maine National Guard reportedly asked local police to check on Robert Card, the suspect in the Lewiston mass shooting that left 18 people dead, after a soldier became concerned that he would “snap and commit a mass shooting,” according to a report from CNN.
