Joe Biden Warns of ‘Potentially Deadlier’ Delta Variant of Coronavirus

President Joe Biden on Friday issued a warning regarding the “potentially deadlier” delta coronavirus variant as part of a plea to Americans to receive the coronavirus vaccine as soon as possible.
“Even while we’re making incredible progress it remains a serious and deadly threat,” Biden said in a White House speech on the virus.
“It’s a variant that is more easily transmissible, potentially deadlier and particularly dangerous for young people, but the good news is we have the solution,” the president continued, before adding that vaccines are the most effective protection against the illness.
“We’re heading into, God willing, the summer of joy, the summer of freedom,” he added. “On July 4, we are going to celebrate our independence from the virus as we celebrate our independence of our nation. We want everyone to be able to do that.”

Well, I for one don't believe a word that the CDC says, nor trust them, and we'll soon find out if the vaccines are indeed effective against this variant.
If the vaccines aren't effective against this variant, then the ONLY answer is then herd immunity??

That's because there is no election this year. Think about it. If they locked down over the current virus, then wouldn't they lock down over a virus even more dangerous?

Indeed. The AZ vaccine is the only one that is showing any concerning decline in efficacy with this variant compared to the others. Pfizer, Moderna and even J&J respond pretty much the same to this one as the other variants.
Of course, the AZ shot isn't approved here, so we have little to worry about.

On a semi-related note... both the UK and Canada not only have used the AZ vaccine as a major portion of its shots, but they've also delayed the second shot for months for most of its citizens, hence why much of Canada is still in lockdown. Even though AZ uses the same technology as J&J, it is far less effective with the single shot than J&J: by some estimates, AZ is only 30% effective with one shot (compared to 60-70% with J&J or the first shot of either Pfizer or Moderna).
So that's why we're seeing issues with the UK still seeing an increase in cases despite as much vaccination as they've done.
