Dallas says goodbye to 'gentle giant' Senior Cpl. Lorne Ahrens
Hundreds of officers from across the country attended the funeral of Dallas police Senior Cpl. Lorne Ahrens on Wednesday at Prestonwood Baptist Church.

Friends from the Dallas Police Department described him as a powerful presence on the force: a man who could easily rip burglar bars off windows with his bare hands as police raided drug houses. A compassionate servant who eased the cries of a scared child. A "gentle giant" so unaware of his own strength he left a string of beat-up squad cars.
Friends recalled how the 6-foot-5-inch Californian "got to Texas as soon as he could." But he kept that West Coast casual attitude, wanting to be buried in a T-shirt, shorts and no shoes.
Hundreds of officers from across the country -- including departments in Arizona, Florida, Minnesota and Ahrens' hometown of Simi Valley, Calif. -- attended Ahrens' funeral today at Prestonwood Baptist Church.
They also came from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, where Ahrens began his law enforcement career as a dispatcher. One deputy who played football with him wore the team's jersey under his suit jacket.

Not sure of the photo's date, there was another large turnout for a murdered Dallas cop in 2018 too.
