Asian American 'randomly' stabbed to death while walking her dogs. Police don't suspect race was a motive.

Ke Chieh Meng was spending her Saturday morning as the animal-loving Californian often did: Walking her two small dogs through her suburban Riverside neighborhood.
Suddenly, surveillance footage from a neighboring house shows, a stranger approached on the otherwise empty street. Moments later, Meng, 64, lay dying on the sidewalk, fatally stabbed in the stomach.
Police soon arrested Stephanie Montoya, a 23-year-old homeless woman who had been charged days earlier in another attack and then released from jail under the county's covid-19 protocols.
Although the attack comes during an upswell of racist assaults and threats against Asian Americans, police said their early investigation didn't suggest race was a factor in Meng's killing.
"The suspect is homeless from L.A. County and is obviously experiencing mental health and substance abuse issues," said Riverside Police officer Ryan Railsback, Patch.com reported. "The attack could have happened to anyone."
A Covid Death of a different kind. That the killer has a drug/mental problem does not mean she did not single out Meng because she was Asian.

Further investigation by the police produced an initial conclusion that this was not, in fact, an anti-Asian hate crime and there was no racist motivation. The reason they were able to determine this was that Montoya had been charged with assault with a deadly weapon in another incident barely a month earlier. The victim in that attack, another woman, was white. Also, Montoya had a history of mental disorders and was pumped up on a controlled substance during the most recent attack. Both attacks were classified by the police as “random.â€
The next question that should occur to any reasonable person is an obvious one. If this maniac had already tried to randomly kill someone weeks before Ke Chieh Mang’s (sic) death and was known to be a disturbed drug addict, what was she doing out on the streets? Following the previous attack, Montoya had been charged but was released without bail “due to COVID-19 restrictions.â€

These people held their ground during the Watts riots. Most everyone has gotten soft with the constant media barrage.

I think that was the Rodney King riots, but yeah. When the police can't/won't protect people then people will protect themselves.
