These Counties Could Determine Control of the House
Four types of American counties could play an outsize role in whether Democrats regain power in the lower chamber.
Priscilla Alvarez Frankie Dintino Caitlyn Hampton
Oct 31, 2018
This November, the Republican Party’s control of Congress is on the line. Democrats need to net 23 seats in the House to flip that chamber for the first time in eight years, and two seats in the Senate to wrest control from the GOP. Victory will be harder to reach in the latter body, where 10 of the seats Democrats are defending are in states Donald Trump carried in 2016. But recent shifts among the electorate have given Democrats a greater chance at seizing power in the House.
Four groups of voters could play an outsize role in both the outcome of the election and the potential realignment of the two parties’ coalitions in the years to come. They’re voters who live in counties with distinct demographic and voting profiles: majority-minorities counties, majority-white suburban counties, pro-Trump counties with a manufacturing base, and counties that voted for former President Barack Obama in 2012 and then for Trump in 2016. Some of these areas saw shifts in the last election that helped Trump win the White House. Their votes this year could be particularly instructive for Republicans and Democrats alike who are trying to plan their party’s future.
Using data from three sources—the 2017 American Community Survey (ACS), an annual sampling of the U.S. population; the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ employment data for 2017; and the Associated Press’s election results—we’ve tracked how voting preferences for House candidates in those four groups of counties have changed over time, beginning with the 2012 election. (Figures also include uncontested and noncompetitive races.)

Florida is the state to watch. If Florida goes blue it is going to be a bad night for the republicans.
Goes Blue how? Senate? Gov? Select House seats?
Gov and Senate, but mostly watch the gov race. The democrat is an out and out socalist, it's bad
news if he wins.
I haven't voted yet -- I'm waiting another hour so I can take two of my millennial sons with me -- but I did drive past the polling location on my way to the store for printer ink to print out sample ballots with the appropriate choices marked for my boys. It looked like our location was fairly busy for this time of day on a midterm election.
If you are printing out sample ballots and marking them up with the proper choices you most defiantly have Millennial kids.
Will vote straight GOP here, except for our moron governor who is a soulless hack. Definitely will not vote for Pocahontas.

I won't be able to sleep until I know. Just heard that DEM Gillum wants to implement a State Tax!! OMG!! How oh how can people be voting for this clown?? He will destroy this state! He'll be worse that Chiles (in office when we moved here over 27 years ago). Nelson, I can deal with though I'd love to see Scott take it. It's the governor's seat I'm extremely worried about.
I'm also worried about TX.

Yup, I voted and took two friends with me one of whom was not going to vote we all voted red. Ted needs every vote he can get.

What do you say to a Christian Conservative neighbor that says she isn't going to vote.... (and didn't even know the name of the Conservative guy running against O'Rourke)? I mean... what do you say that won't end the friendship? Nothing. She lost her only son earlier in the year so ..... I just keep my mouth shut. But it bugs me.
You guys wrote in Flake didn't you?
No...Meghan McCain. But then, if I want a large-chested bimbo for a Senator I could just vote for Sinema.
Listen. I would have voted for Noxzima if I was out there as soon as I heard about her bi/lesbian exploits.

Texas judge orders some polling locations to stay open due to long lines@corbe
A judge in Harris County, Texas, ordered nine polling locations to stay open an extra hour to accommodate long lines. The locations will have to stay open until 8 p.m. local time, according to the court order.
I think this is SOP in Harris County but I could be wrong @Victoria33 would know for sure.
@corbe
Sounds like the judge doesn't know Texas Election Law. The law is, at the official closing time, the election judge goes to the end of the line and those people can vote even if the line is out the door. They are brought inside if possible, but the last one in line at closing time, is the last person who can vote.

I think St. Louis ends up having polling places help open until 10PM every election. Forgot to say those extra votes will be taken out after the judge's order is receded. A "regular" judge cannot run an election according to what he/she wants it to be; these judges are not connected to running an election. This judge we are speaking of is a judge outside of an election. There is an "election judge" at this polling precinct who knows the line is stopped when the time has run out to vote. The Secretary of State will likely be the one to tell the county to remove these votes.

I'm talking individual precincts, not the redistricting.

That FoxNews call before polls in CA were even closed should result in some sort of fine.
I am so relieved that Cruz won. I am utterly exhausted.
I know. Is that a more conservative area of AZ?
Turned off by "Trump and conservatism", where was the conservatism? It wasn't in the huge deficit spending. It wasn't in paying lip service to building the wall. It wasn't in failing to repeal Obamacare.

Looks like a red wave in the Senate, and a normal midterm in the House.
Yes, redistricting is important, but this is more than that. This is (populous) Philly suburban Republicans turning their backs and voting Democrat.
Yep. Democrats started downplaying the blue wave a few weeks ago. They could see winning the House, but they would not hold it by much. But watch.. If Republicans gains seats in the Senate, and Dems only hold Congress by a couple of seats, they will claim it a huge victory.

I think this was a wonderful house cleaning of genuine filth.
Some key developments in this election that will definitely benefit Trump's 2020 election is that gone is the POS that was Gov of Ohio, replaced by hopefully someone that will overtly support Pres Trump, and it appears DeSantis will win in Florida, which will also impact the 2020 election.
Sadly, the idiots of PA voted for Wolf, a typical tax increasing Democommie. Also, the Gov of Iowa will be a Republican, as well as the Gov of Arizona. Walker loses in Wisconsin, but I am not surprised.
Overall, despite the projected lose in the House, I think the GOP emerges stronger in the Senate, and the stage is set for the president to eviscerate the Dems in the House. If the Democrats think they are going to waste Taxpayer Money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, and much else, at the Senate level. Two can play that game!
Pelosi may not be the next Speaker, there were close to a dozen that said they would not vote for Pelosi. Of course, when it comes to the exercise of raw political power, the old bulls and cows in DC have no peers.
Abrams refuses to concede.
I'd call this one a draw.
The Dems took the House, made big gains in the midwest and tightened their grip on the Northeast. They've shown that, by and large, their approach is personal attacks against high-profile conservatives, and in many cases it worked: socons like Kim Davis got thrown out, reformers like Scott Walker got thrown out, and Beto came uncomfortably close to an upset.
The GOP clawed back Senate seats they lost in 2012 and held on to seats the Dems desperately wanted. Ted Cruz surviving is a huge relief. The good news for the Republicans is that the personal attack strategy they used to get in probably won't be enough to keep them there next time around.
socons like Kim Davis got thrown out, reformers like Scott Walker got thrown out, and Beto came uncomfortably close to an upset.
The GOP has history on its side for 2020. Infighting among the Dems could help them.
As of now, Reuters has the Dems down one Senate seat with 40 and the Pubs up one Senate seat with 50.
The left really is divided right now. The right has an incredible opportunity to do serious damage to them in the years to come if they can stop making the same mistakes.
Yes, this was a relative win for the Pubs. And they have hopefully lost some dogs.
I read that, but that usually doesn't stop the media from calling races before a concession speech.
Also from what gathered from some of their local reads , it sounds like she might be trying to pull some Franken tactics. With Ophra's money, I'll be she tries.
Reuters is wrong.
CNN is showing 45 Dem and 51 GOP.
The GOP has history on its side for 2020. Infighting among the Dems could help them.
I'd call this one a draw.
Pretty much. For all the red wave - blue wave hype this summer, it essentially settled into what we saw predicted last week: Red gains in the Senate, Blue control of the House by a small majority, and closely contested races for governor.
When we have deadlocked government......... The taxpayers win.I suppose it's too much to ask that the Democrats will be so all-consumed with impeaching everyone connected to the Trump administration, they'll forget about raising taxes, gun seizures and the like?

No, they're already talking about it. If you visit Reddit you'll see a bunch of top page threads talking about the house going after Trump etc. A lot of young people on the left truly, honestly believe that they're going to see Donald Trump put in handcuffs.Exactly. They all have impeachment on their tiny minds. I'm just hopeful it's distracting enough to them.

GOOD NEWS is Nutter🤪Democrats will almost certainly overreach with investigations b/c their base will demand it — like with Kavanaugh.
This will turn-off Independents.
Trump will rack up more wins on trade, personnel, foreign policy and the economy. All bode well for 2020!

I do think if Republicans had won it all yesterday, 2020 could have been catastrophic. Trump does well as a fighter. He will now be able to energize his base against Pelosi, Waters, Schiff, Nadler - all perfect liberal “villains†for Republicans to attack on the campaign trail.

I used to think that...then 2006 happened. The Dems will claim the "will of the people" to go forward with their radical agenda. And IMO they can pick off enough GOPe in the Senate to get some of it pushed through.
Glad I got most of the guns I wanted when I did...
Bullshit. Last week we had the Rats flipping 10 or 15 more seats in the House. That never got close.

Am I the only one who remembers Obama's "I'm still relevant" at his "we took a shellacking" press conference after his first midterms?

Amazing...both Gillum and Nelson looked stunned already.
E.V.E.R.Y.O.N.E. who Obama campaigned for...had their ass handed to them.
I'd love to hear from some Ted Cruz fans here tell us how President Trump wasn't responsible for pushing Ted over the finish line.
Not looking for any food fights....just honest acknowledgment of the POTUS' drawing power.
I'm a little more optimistic. McCain is dead, Corker and Flake are gone, and the overall GOP side of the senate is more conservative
Nelson looks more like he belongs in a Ripley's Wax Museum.
On top of that, you’ve got a president that has already said he’d sign an immigration deal, even if it doesn’t have things he lived in it. Plus, we have people here that will move the goalposts and hail it as some sort of great political move. We saw that, after the omnibus signing.
I suppose it's too much to ask that the Democrats will be so all-consumed with impeaching everyone connected to the Trump administration, they'll forget about raising taxes, gun seizures and the like?
@DCPatriot, not looking for a food fight either, but we don't know whether Trump's visit helped or didn't. For all we know, it caused some voters to show up to vote against Cruz. I just don't know.
More important, Paul Ryan is gone.

Yeah. We do know. All 5 candidates Donny flew in and rallied for won. That's impressive in a first term Midterm where the GOP candidates were getting outspent by huge margins. Cruz was getting outspent around 5:1 and now we find out the Rats were getting Wetbacks to vote in TX. Donny pulled Teds ass out of the fire.

UpDATE: Also found that she does't have to buck a full 2 1/2 point lead. All she has to do is cheat and generate enough votes to force a runoff.

My observations:
1) GOP losses in the House are in line w the historical average. R gains in the Senate were unusual.
2) If Rs had held the House, the margin would have been so small, nothing of substance would have passed anyway. Senate continues to give R judges.
3) D control of House presents peril and promise for Trump. The peril is subpoenas and investigations. The promise is Trump has a liberal foil to run against.
4) Turnout surged, but not to Presidential levels. In last 3 POTUS elections, roughly 130 million voted. In last 3 mid-terms, roughly 85 million voted. Looks like some 100 million voted yesterday.
5) The share of white voters is declining, but Ds are increasingly losing whites. White voters were 79% of all voters in 2006; 77% in 2010; 75% in 2014 and 72% yesterday. In ‘06, last time Ds took House, they lost white voters by 4 points. Ystrdy, Ds lost white voters by 10.
6) The GOP’s problem with women has grown. In ‘06, Rs lost women by 12. Ystrdy, GOP lost women by 19.
7) Turnout by voters 65+ surged yesterday, probably thanks to Trump nationalizing the election. Seniors yesterday were 26% of the electorate. In last 3 mid-terms, they were 19, 21, and 22%.
8) The youth vote was not up much. 18-29 yr. olds were 13% of the electorate yesterday. In last 3 mid-terms they were 12, 12, and 13%.
9)The education gap has grown wider. In 2006 (last time Ds won the House) college grads were +7 for the Ds. Yesterday they were +30 for the Ds. In 2006, non-college grads were +8 for the Ds. Yesterday, they were evenly split.
When you look at the places the POTUS visited/rallied?
Claire McCaskill "...missed it by this much". The rally where Rush Limbaugh introduced him just the day before?
I don't believe Ted Cruz would have automatically won without the President help. It's no slam on Ted.
Nelson looks more like he belongs in a Ripley's Wax Museum.
In theory maybe, but first they have to "pick off" the leadership to get anything to a vote. Although if you think about it, it might be a good move to hand Trump a few wacko bills to gleefully veto...
O'Rourke had about as much an advantage over an incumbent as is possible to have. Nearly twice the war chest, nonstop worshipful coverage in the media and Jim Carrey.

"Leadership" in the house will be interesting to watch, since they have such a slender lead. A lot of Rat House candidates promised to not support Pelosi for Speaker. She is sure to twist arms to get Speaker, so how many of the freshman Rats will start their House careers by breaking that promise on their very first vote?
My feeble prediction: She'll twist enough arms and get Speaker, and then she'll overplay her hand as we've never seen before. Trump wins in 2020, bringing a House majority back. Meanwhile, gridlock will wet in in the House, and the Senate will pick up the pace on confirmations, including a new AG.
How quickly people forget: Obama lost 63 seats in the house in 2010 and 6 senate seats; Clinton lost 54 house seats in 1994 and 9 senate seats.
Stock markets opened on a high note.
Liberal white guilt millenials indoctrinated by gov't schools, college educated suburban women voters, hispanics and blacks will control the future votes because they have the numbers

Last nights results show conservatism/Republicans is on the death bed. The death rattle will be next.
Beto and Cruz was basically a 50 50 split in Texas of all places. Should have been 80/20 favoring Cruz. Stacy Abrams who is basically a communist was not that far behind Kemp in conservative Georgia. Conservative/Republican Florida basically a 50 50 split with Nelson and Gillum.
Once the white WWII generation is gone we are gone. What happened to the 40% of blacks supposedly voting for Republicans?. Never happened. Tribalism wins out.

Not enough rural conservative voters to make a difference once the gray hairs are gone.

Yeah, the rats have policy carte blanc thanks to their cozy relationship with the media. They just plow straight ahead with their dangerous agenda while even the most mildly conservative proposal provokes howls from the newsreaders.

We have a very different Senate come 2019. The Flakes are gone, replaced by supporters of the President and his agenda. Plus we have better numbers.
I don't think the Democrats recognize the strength of the red wall awaiting them ... and of course, they will continue to underestimate the President.
Look at the vote map. It is 90% red, and yet somehow we still lose. There is something not right about that.

But Abbott won by 13 points ... so conservatives/republicans ARE alive and well in Texas. ... just not voting for Cruz. I never thought Cruz's reelection was seriously in doubt and last night I had some doubts. It might be best for Ted to stay close to home for a while and rebuild his popularity there.
In Texas, Cruz is an anomaly. Abbott won reelection by 13 points. Cruz's campaign was in trouble for months. It may, in hindsight, come down to the candidate.

Don’t get fooled by reports that 99% of precincts are in in AZ. That’s only Election Day votes that have been tallied. There’s a huge tranche of early votes that, ironically, still have not been counted. As much as 1/4 of the total vote. May not know #AZSen for days.

Somehow with Trump loosing is winning. I wonder what is going to happen to all the people who filled the stadiums cheering the end of illegal immigration? When they realize that it is stalled for another 2 years and caravan after caravan of illegals make their way to America. All those people who had hope waking up this morning wondering what kind of miracle Donald has up his sleeve now?
And seeing his congratulatory twitter for Nancy Pelosi this morning it is easy to see why he hires liberals. As I said the other day I don't vote for liberals but people Trump hires do. And I wouldn't be surprised if Ivanka and Jared have never changed their party either.
Now that makes sense why AZ hasn't been called. Lot's of chances for dim fraudulence.
The State of Maryland is a Socialist State. If you look at the county maps, it's the D.C. suburbs and Baltimore City that are blue. Everything else is red.

I think this is a bit premature. We turned a blue wave into a trickle.
It has gotten to the point in Texas where you are no longer guaranteed to win Statewide races just because you have an "R" next to your name.
You are going to have to campaign and be a good candidate. If you are, you'll do fine. If not, it's going to be real dicey from here on out.
And that goes for a lot of States. The bottom line is, the GOP needs to up their game, bigly.
And, Trump came out for Cruz, but not for Abbott.
Same here in Il..the state is mostly red except for Chicago area and East St Louis which have enough votes to turn us blue..remember most of Il is rural and farmland
As Abbott's victory margin shows, a Republican with less baggage than Cruz still wins easily statewide.
Look at the vote map. It is 90% red, and yet somehow we still lose. There is something not right about that.
As far as what the future holds, that is not for me. I won't be around for it. I am blessed to have lived in my time, before all this weirdness happened. When I was young, I could never understand how old people were at ease with dying. The older I get, the more I understand it.

Like to give a shout out of Michael Avenatti for motivating the GOP base this cycle. Can't wait till he runs for President....
It’s like saying you dodged a blizzard every time it snows.More like saying you dodged a blizzard when the weather forecasters all predicted snowmageddon - and all we got was 3". The left was predicting a blue wave. It turned out to be a trickle or a puddle, at best.

You may not like this but Cruz is a wooden and stiff dud. He has no charisma and he speeches are lackluster. He's no Abbott.

For starters there was that bit during the primaries where he lied to Carson voters, saying he had already dropped out so they would vote for him. He's self interested. I don't sense one iota of integrity from that man.

I've always had good intuition with people, and I sense something deeply sinister in Ted Cruz. Maybe I'm wrong.

There are a lot of people on both sides that give me the creeps. Ted Cruz is just one of the Republicans. I don't think he actually cares about anything but himself, sorry.

I don't care, as long as he votes correctly. It's not up to me anyway, it's up to Texans.
My mild rebuke has more to do with accepting stories without proof, or in the face of opposing evidence. Folks need to educate themselves because we have a press that won't.
Ben Carson himself was complaining about it in the primaries if memory serves, and then Trump brought it up. I never heard that it was disproven. I'm always willing to accept reality once I'm faced with it, but reality is not always clear.
In the face of uncertainty, the moral person assumes innocence until guilt is proven.
And with the Dims controlling the House, look for legislation to use the popular vote to determine election wins. Also, look for more states to vote in laws allowing people to vote by just showing up and giving a name and address that have no ID to prove who they are. That's how dead people vote in the 21st Century.
In the face of uncertainty, the moral person assumes innocence until guilt is proven.
You are very astute. Not only is there the issue of his families involvement in the JFK assassination there is also the small matter of Ted being the Zodiac Killer.

You jest but there is a reason people call him the Zodiac Killer.
He's creepy dude.
At the time, Cruz was looking like the eventual Nominee....
@Dexter
You have finally posted something I agree with. I don't know exactly what it is,but there is something about Cruz that really creeps me out.
It sounds to me like the teachers' unions are to thank for these stats, which would also explain Walker's loss.
No, that's not thinking, that's feeling. You need to learn to tell the difference.
Total bullshit. There was no time ever when Cruz was ahead of Trump in the delegate count.
Feelings can't be relied on for everything, but they're certainly not useless either. My intuition has served me well in my life. I accept that I could be wrong about Ted Cruz. For what it's worth Hillary Clinton is about three times as creepy in my opinion. That's why I refused to fall in line and vote for her. I try to use my heart and my brain.
BFD.
They’ll need to amend the constitution to change the popular vote threshold. That’s not happening.
I disagree that your feelings have served you well. Didn't you say that you are a leftist?
He's the one establishment Republicans were hoping would be the nominee.
Still waiting for you to tell me when "Eventual Nominee" Cruz was ahead in the delegate count against Trump?
Disappointed Scott Walker couldn't squeak out a win...Very disappointing. He's worked wonders in that state. Darn Madison/Milwaukee leftists!

Ted Cruz is the ONLY politician I have encountered in my considerably long life to do in office EXACTLY what he said he would do while campaigning for office. He has my vote for as long as he wants it.
Scott Walker campaign eyes Milwaukee's damaged absentee ballots in deciding on recount
The City of Milwaukee reconstructed 2,000 of 47,500 absentee ballots cast in Tuesday's general election and the validity of those ballots will play a role in whether Gov. Scott Walker demands a recount in his loss against Democrat Tony Evers.
The Milwaukee Election Commission on Wednesday acknowledged the small number of damaged and reconstructed absentee ballots while defending its handling of all 47,500 absentee ballots.
The city's late-night tally of its absentee ballots pushed Evers ahead of Walker for good.

The truth is who the Party Pod People wanted is named "Anybody BUT Trump". Trump was the one candidate the RNC and DNC knew they couldn't control.
Yes, I find that somewhat shocking. You would think they would have appreciated what he did.
If someone wants to start a Cruz vs. Trump thread, please do so. No more rehashing of old, moldy arguments on this thread, please.
I know..that's what I thought would guarantee a win for him...
I find it highly ironic that almost all this Cruz bashing is coming from non- Texans. I find it doubly ironic that some are calling him creepty, when the POTUS is King of that category.
Let no one fool anyone, the Cruz campaign had their own set of dirty tricks which happened in virtually ever competitive state.
Said a candidate was dropping out, oh, yes, we know that is Ben Carson in Iowa, but wait, the same thing happened with Rubio in Hawaii.
Said Governor John Kasich received Soros money.
Cruz campaign claimed Senator Rubio said things about the Bible, this was a falsehood, the Cruz campaign lied about this and the campaign worker was fired. However, these tricks happened in one state after another.

Cruz lost the Bible belt because voters thought he mocked the Bible.
Cruz-ers come up with a lame excuse about the National Enquirer, time to throw it back at them.
True, I agree, and I will repeat this line from my last post, "Why people think he's any creepier than any other politician is beyond me."
I agree. Why people think he's any creepier than any other politician is beyond me.
Well.... I must confess.... I'm in a state of shock (not Texas). That Twitchy could get 'that many' votes here in Texas. I guess I was (then) in a state (not Texas) of Denial.
It's a bit scary to realize, now, that there are so many damned leftist idiots here in Texas. Should have anticipated it though. Leftists have been streaming into Texas (after fouling their own nests) for decades. Couple that with the 'no telling how many' illegals that voted for "Beto" (ask O'Keefe)....
and I shouldn't be surprised at all.
If someone wants to start a Cruz vs. Trump thread, please do so. No more rehashing of old, moldy arguments on this thread, please.
"Rehashing of old, moldy arguments" is the single most important reason that political forums exist.

Joseph Farah has a couple of good articles on WND. I think there was massive voting by illegals--and not just in Texas. It's the only reasonable explanation for the record-breaking "turnout" by Dems.
If that was disproven I didn't hear about it. There's still that weird stuff he was sending people in the mail. I don't know. I've always had good intuition with people, and I sense something deeply sinister in Ted Cruz. Maybe I'm wrong. You are wrong. Cruz is a brilliant constitutional conservative that has argued before the Supreme Court. In Iowa, it was his staff that passed on the speculation from the MSM about why Carson was leaving the state. Cruz had nothing to do with it. Cruz is a deeply honorable man.
I'm still shocked (and saddened) that my whole county went left in every race but one.
Harris County went 100% left, where there was Ed Emmett, who was a popular county judge.
"Hunker Down" Ed, from all the past storms.

My county, Bandera, went 80-20 Cruz. All GOP all the way. Still, I'm disappointed we have 20% morons/leeches.That's great news.
I agree. I just re-watched the video by Project Veritas. I guess I just underestimated (fatal mistake) our opponents' ability, willingness and penchant for CHEATING. I broke Rule #1. 8888crybaby
It was DACA people voting. The Big 0 gave them legal status, as in the ability to get an SSN and a driver's license. So, even though they are not citizens, they were able to game the system.
Just some observations. Take 'em for what you paid for 'em.
Texas is in trouble when a guy like O'Rourke comes within swinging distance of topplin' Ted Cruz.
It may still be "a red state"... for now... but the "color temperature of the red" is starting to shift "towards the purple" of the spectrum. We all know what that portends for the future.
And... look at TX demographics. Of the newborns in Texas, what percentage are being born to Anglos and what percentage to Hispanics? And of those Hispanics, how many of the newborns are "anchor babies" born to illegals?
Arizona, as well. McSally looks like she'll win, but the Sinema gal go too close for comfort (considering her whacky roots). Arizona is purple now, no longer to be considered a red state. And, it's still tipping leftward. No longer a place to go for traditionalist/conservatives looking to get out of California. You'd better start lookin' for that refuge elsewhere.
Florida is in trouble, as well. Gillium lost -- THIS time. But I sense he'll be back.
And what's up with Georgia? That Abrams woman got within spittin' distance of the Republican in the final tally. Will Atlanta soon turn GA blue, in a "Sherman's march" for the 21st century?

Or it was just a typical midterm election, the party out of power were way, way more motivated to vote than the party in power. And yes, the Kavanaugh episode probably helped things, but only just a bit.
The Rats actually under performed in that "First Off-Year Election." The norm is a loss of 30 or so seats in the House, and it doesn't look like the Rats are going to pick that many up. The Senate was a loss for the Rats, no matter how it's painted.
We did OK. Well enough to laugh off all that blather about a "blue wave."
Tester just took the lead.... 9999hair out0000
Five of the nine Congressional seats in AZ went Rat. AZ has struggled to send a good Congressional delegation to the House since the last redistricting.
I decided to move after my retirement, and I intend to stay in AZ. That said, I am leaving the urban part of the state that's lost its Commie head, for a county on the West side of the state that is the most conservative county in the state. Refugees from Cali don't like it there.
Re the Senate: The fact that McSally is still standing is actually better than I expected. In August she survived an ugly Primary and the Rat did not have to. I had decided this seat was probably going to be a Rat pick-up, and that it may not is better news than I expected.
The Dems will be busy placating their lunatic base with subpoenas and investigations, while we can appoint judges galore.
Who really won?

Future refugee from Cali here. Every one of my issues lost yesterday - apparently Californians cannot pay enough in taxes. I won't pay to live here much longer.
The wife and I are debating on where we'll eventually land. I can promise you one thing though. Wherever that ends up being I will have the reddest neck in town.

Democrat Mike Levin wins in California 49th, turning Darrell Issa’s old seat blue

I saw where Sanders got 67%+ in VT. What kind people ( 2 in 3 no less) want to live in a socialist state?

I would NOT choose Arizona, Nevada, or New Mexico. They're all "tilting blue", and even if they're not actually there yet, the writing is on that wall.
Can you say "future Atzlan"? I knew you could.
Even the once-solid ship of Texas -- though still above the water line right now -- is showin' signs of leaks. The bilge pumps can't keep up with the inflow.
Of course, Colorado is out for conservatives.
Even Montana ain't particularly great no mo'.
I'd be looking at:
Utah -- probably going to stay "the reddest for the longest" cuz of all the LDS folks.
Idaho -- especially the northern end
Wyoming
West end of Nebraska
Very southwest corner of South Dakota
To the east:
Kentucky (wasn't a slave state, so low minority demographics compared to TN)
West Virginia -- the reddest state in the east (even though they re-elected Manchin)
If you can put up with the lefties, Vermont (yes, Vermont!) -- it's going to remain the most beautiful, for the longest time, before the changing tides rise high enough to sink us all. The Northeast Kingdom is one of the most beautiful places in America.
Or, just to the east... New Hampshire.
Seems CA has turned into a blue plague of leeches.
Have mercy on the 40% of us carrying the parasites on our backs.

Evers Declares Victory, Walker Camp Says The ‘Fight Is Not Over’
By Matt Kittle - November 7, 2018
...
But the razor-thin result, allegations of thousands of damaged ballots, and a late-night surprise from Democrat stronghold Milwaukee County promised that Wisconsin’s dead-heat gubernatorial race was far from over.

We just moved out of California June 1st. This last election is just more conformation why. Not a single state wide Republican won anything. Most of the bond measures passed and they are deeply in debt, like it is free money... And then to top it off the idiot city dwellers are going to tell farmers and ranchers how they have to raise animals with all the bureaucratic strings and costs attached. The cities have decided they don't want those dirty farmers and ranchers in their state. That they don't need them. They also want to take their water rights. We need to build a wall all right....right around Texas.
California is doomed.

Come to the Texas Hill Country. Bandera County voted 4:1 for Cruz.

Sounds like a possibility. And I've almost got enough guns. :patriot:
I have plenty of sympathy for your plight.
My wife came to Phoenix from OC, and though much of her family has already fled, she has a very close sister still in OC. Her whole family, along with a few of her in-laws are also there. We have a wedding to attend, and there are some rels we haven't seen in years. Every one of them are angry about the cost, and they all vote blue. Maybe I better throw a copy of my old ECON101 textbook in the suitcase....
888mouth
And, it's beautiful out there!
Doesn't the town of Bandera bill itself as "The Cowboy Capital of the World"?
I hear the same thing over and over - discussing issues with friends, cost of living, crime, illegals, we agree on nearly everything. When the subject of how to vote comes up I'm suddenly a leper.
I wonder who they blame for the high COL? Ronald Reagan because he was a Governor once?
:banghead:
That was a taunt by Trump. He wants Pelosi to be speaker because she's dotty.
I don't recall what was said to be the party breakdown of the early vote and I'm too lazy to look for it.
Anybody know what's holding up the AZ call? Looks like the Green party saved us there...
Crap ton of Early Balloting. 600K or so votes, and those are harder to count than the ones that go into machines. Green (of the Green Party) got 2.5%, so yes, they helped a lot.
I saw where Sanders got 67%+ in VT. What kind people ( 2 in 3 no less) want to live in a socialist state?

There is a rumor that U-haul is calling in a lot of trailers and trucks from all over the country to come to Illinois to handle all of the families that is moving out..
So right now RCP has 856848-839775 with 99.53% reporting which suggests less than 10k uncounted, but there could actually be thousands more still floating around? To be "counted" by hand? That's a scary thought...
Any word on how Roy Moore did yesterday?
Any word on how Roy Moore did yesterday?
He lost.In other news, Generalissimo Franco is . . . still dead.
He lost.
He lost.
Shit. I'm almost afraid to ask about how Joe Arpaio made out.
Looks like he made out carefully - in a hospital bed.

Well since I am batting 0 for 2 I may as well ask.......how did Christine O'Donnell do in Delaware?
He lost.
According to this guy, things apparently ‘went south.’

Well the good news is that now Sessions is free to get his Senate seat back.
Geez. I thought we had a good night but with all these GOP losses I'm not so sure. No worries though. I'm sure Scott Brown picked up that Senate seat in New Hampshire.
This morning count in the McSally/Sinema election, from the AZ Secretary of State website:
McSally 856,848, or 49.37%
Enema 839,775 or 48.39%
I still can't find how many ballots remain to be counted from the SoS web page. McSally is slowly pulling away, she was <16,000 votes ahead yesterday and about 0.8%, and it's now almost 1%. It would appear the mail-in and early ballots were more GOP than the press expected.
The automatic recount threshold in AZ is 0.5%.
The totals for Superintendent of Public Education flipped in the count, and now all state-wide offices on the ballot are showing GOP sweep. It would appear the mail-in and early ballots are primarily GOP. Continue prayers for AZ, please!
Comal (New Braunfels) stayed Red, Hayes (San Marcos) went blue, we are surrounded.
Move West (Texas) young Man.
LOL, yes you are.
I am now in a blue county.
LOL, yes you are.
I am now in a blue county.
Dallas is now firmly blue, and that includes suburbs that were crimson just one election ago.
Correct. That is the price we are paying for dealing with the devil.
Yeah. I guess it doesn't have anything to do with all the Cali people moving there.
Yeah. I guess it doesn't have anything to do with all the Cali people moving there.
How can Cali people be omnipresent destroying the country while maintaining their voting destruction of California?
I understand that in 2020, we here in Texas will no longer have straight ticket voting.
I've also heard that we have to register for a party affiliation if we want to vote in the primaries.
Does anyone know about that part?
Add to that all the money poured into just that one senate race, more than ever before.
Beto didn't win, but in the counties that he did win in, it had some serious coattail effects.
The last time something went this haywire was when Bill Clinton took Harris county, a LaRouche Democrat got some kind of office, just for having a "D" by his name on the ballot.

This just past election was the last time anyone could vote for every candidate of a party with a single mark on the ballot. One election too late IMHO.
All primary voters in Texas register a party affiliation when they vote in one. You cannot vote in the democrat primary and then vote in any republican runoff and that isn't changing.
Still waiting for you to tell me when "Eventual Nominee" Cruz was ahead in the delegate count against Trump?
Feb 2, 2016
Be careful, it's something of a trick question.
Well sure, if you want to get technical. Since the fix was already in at the Convention, Iowa's Cruz delegates saw their votes get reversed in the finest Democrat Party tradition. Trump delegates, handpicked by the RNC, worked feverishly to block any chance of reforming the Party. The GOP Swamp Establishment won out BIG TIME, thanks to Trump.
