A former San Jacinto County judge was arrested and charged with allegedly impersonating a public servant when he bypassed Montgomery County courthouse security, flashing a government shield to a guard when he was no longer in office.

John Robert Lovett Jr., 52, of Shepherd, was charged with third-degree felony April 4. A male security guard at the Montgomery County courthouse wrote in a statement that on Feb. 19, Lovett bypassed a metal detector, showing him a “gold five-pointed star.” The guard stated the shield resembled a Harris County sheriff’s badge. Lovett was attending a hearing in the 9th state District Court for criminal charges against him, according to an affidavit from the Attorney General’s Office.
