(Newser) – Someone is upset about the Taraji P. Henson-starring Proud Mary, which opened in theaters Friday. (Well, someone besides 72% of critics and 44% of audience members.) Does Fogerty own the rights to the song?  If not, he needs to STFU.

And I'm a big CCR fan.

And I'm a big CCR fan.
His rights and royalties as the song's composer were restored to him after his longtime enemy Saul Zaentz sold Fantasy Records to the Concord Group, and
one of the first things they did was restore his rights as the composer---though they didn't offer him his publishing back, which is something different.

And since he did right the song, he has every right to object to the manner in which it was used in the film in question. There's still such a thing as
free speech.
