Senate Democrats to meet with Obama

Senate Democrats will stop by the White House on Wednesday to visit with President Barack Obama, Democratic sources said.

It will be one of the last chances for the party to coordinate ahead of Obama’s State of the Union Address on Jan. 28, as lawmakers will likely head home on Thursday or Friday for a week off scheduled around Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The visit comes as congressional Democrats and the White House press forward on an economic agenda heavy on restoring expired unemployment benefits and raising the minimum wage. Senate Democrats are pursuing an emergency unemployment extension this week and are hoping to vote on a proposal to raise the minimum wage in late January or early February.
