David Hogg Got Rejected By Some Major Colleges, Now He’s Dissing Them

David Hogg is racking up college rejections faster than Hillary can rack up excuses for losing the presidency. But, he is not upset because he says “Amazing people don’t get into college.â€
Might I suggest he apply to the Bozo Clown College? He’d be a cinch for valedictorian. He has been turned down by UCLA and UC San Diego. He has been accepted by South Florida Barber College and the University of Phoenix, whose campus is in the alley in back of the local deli. The university is on the second floor.

Kind of hard to learn anything when you're out showing your mug on tv and protesting.
He's a product of a public school education that indoctrinates, not teaches. And his parents apparently don't care if he learns anything either. Otherwise, they would tell him to stop this protesting nonsense and hit the books.
I said elsewhere about the only job he might be suited for is community organizer. Don't even need a high school education for that. He can learn the art of fleecing the wealthy and major corporations from Obama.

I'm thinking it's probably one of those schools where no one gets a failing grade because an F lowers self-esteem. Or something.

He's been playing hooky ever since the shooting (even if he actually was at school on Feb. 14), busily making contacts like Val Jarrett, appearing on television, "organizing" protest marches and burnishing his tough-guy image. He even tweeted, laughing, that he had skipped a test at school. This punk shouldn't even receive his high school diploma, let alone get admitted to college.

That's only slightly about average (the SAT) and only 75% correct answers. And, remember current SAT scores have been adjusted by ~100 points to make up for a less educated test taking population.

As for other schools -- most of them are heavily into "diversity." As a white male, he might be passed over for admission in favor of, say, a black, female LGBT with a lower score.

You can now get above a 4.0 GPA based on the Advanced Placement courses you take in high school. The average GPA for high school students getting into my alma mater (University of Virginia) is reported to be 4.2.

I think it has to do with his attitude and the attention he brings and I don't think any university wants the headache that this a**hole is going to bring, or it could be they have fill some kind of diversity quota and he did go against White privilege.

Highest SAT score when I was in HS (1970s) was 1,600, but I'm pretty sure the test is a lot different now. Back then, 1,200 was a very good score. If it's true the nearly illiterate Mr. Hogg really got a 1,200, then that's probably like a 900 in olden days. I thought most kids took the ACT now, anyway. As for GPA, it's meaningless. "A" grades are handed out like participation medals in most public schools now.

They added a third section (a writing section) that could bring a total score as high as 2400. That writing section isn't universally recognized, though. Most of the time when you cite an SAT score, it's just the verbal and math, which still maxes out at 1600.

AP classes affect GPA as well — regular classes usually weight an A in a class as a 4.0. But many high schools and colleges give AP classes an additional point. So it's possible to have a 5.0 GPA credit from an AP class. Or, a student could get a B in an AP class but still have a 4.0 GPA. Schools often weight honors classes higher than regular classes as well.

Most schools add a point now for taking an honors or gifted/talented level class. So a B in an honors class equals an A in the average class.
I wish my high school had done this. Our class valedictorian was a girl who avoided all the hard classes. All of us taking college prep level classes occasionally got a B. She didn't.
So still a 4.0 scale, but 5 points awarded for an A in honors english and the like.

Depending on how you scored on the exam at the end, you can also get college credits for those AP classes. My son went into college as a sophomore because he had taken several of those classes.

After my high school calculus course in 1977/78, I took the AP Exam that was administered by the College Board. By getting a 3 or above on it, I placed out of college calculus, but that AP Exam was administered separately from my high school. My "A" in that high school calculus course only got me a 4.0 on my GPA, but as mentioned, that's all changed now.

I aced all my AP classes but took most of them in college because they were easy A's.
Also, I did not get into my first choice in college, even though I was a legacy. I got into my second choice and it was the best thing I could have done. Better fit, happier, and I was able to audit courses after I graduated at my first choice and I have a pass to use their library.

In the 70's, my high school couldn't figure out how to fit AP classes into the budget, so they simply axed them. No Calculus or advanced Chem for me. At least they kept the Honors English class. Since I had blocked out my whole four years in preparation for those classes, I ended up with a 4-hour class schedule. They wanted me to take extra Phys-Ed classes but I told them to piss up a rope, a Community College wanted me.

You placed out of college calculus by taking an AP exam in high school? Wow! I wish I could have done that. When I took Calculus IV it was with a new book. No books in either bookstore. The library didn't even have any copies. Try taking a math course with no book. Pre-internet and all. I withdrew from all classes before the deadline and joined the Navy. When I went back to school, I changed my major. No more calculus, Yea!

CNN host Alisyn Camerota expressed surprise during a Friday interview that any colleges turned down David Hogg, the Parkland, Fla., high school student who has become a major figure in the nation's gun violence debate.
Fox News host Laura Ingraham apologized to Hogg and lost advertisers after she mocked him on Twitter for being rejected by four colleges.
“I am stunned that four colleges rejected you,†Camerota said on Friday. “What kind of dumbass colleges don’t want you?! You have taken the country by storm. How do you explain this? Did they reject you before the Parkland massacre?â€
Hogg said that his rejection letters came after the Feb. 14 school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

This is why no one should expect actual news reporting from CNN. As a smalltown newspaper reporter (who has tried mightily to be completely objective in my stories), I am embarrassed that this is what passes for news coverage - loaded vulgar words, thinly-veiled criticism of the schools and gushing praise for the interview subject. Shameful.

I agree. He and a lot of other kids need some real parenting -- the way most of us were brought up. I know my parents would never have tolerated behavior like Hogg's. They sure as hell would not allow me to roam the countryside spreading nonsense instead of hitting the books.

I just found that working a forty hour week and insane professors resulted real anger issues, then I got married at nineteen and just never worked up the desire to go back. Something must have been right about the decision because I'm still married forty two years later.

One unknown (or barely known) item about the film is that Redden never played the banjo. They used a real banjo player, and special clothes and camera angles to make it seem like Redden was really playing. He was picked for the part because the director, John Boorman, wanted an actor who looked like the stereotype inbred hillbilly. Redden fit the part. How would you like to get a role like that? Sort of a slam against Southerners or hill people.
Another aside, Redden said he didn't much like Burt Reynolds. He liked Tim Burton (who chose him to play a cameo as the banjo player in one of his films) a lot more.

My son, in high school, which is in the NASA area, south of Houston, took advanced math, chemistry and English, graduating in the early 1970s, was admitted early to Rice University in Houston, and they only take 500 new students a year. His SAT score was so high, he was automatically made a member of MENSA at Rice. In the summer before Rice started, he took two "place out" tests in English and History and placed out of both, and was put in advanced Chemistry and Math then. He could start his degree choice courses instead of having to take regular Freshmen classes. His major was Space Physics/Astronomy.
I graduated from high school in 1951. There were no school counselors then; no one to advise you. Took courses in the summer at Kilgore Jr. College, then went to East Texas University in the fall (now is A&M at Commerce), and had to take tests. I wouldn't be surprised if Princeton or Yale University offered Hogg a place. His scores are good and he has "excelled" in leading an outcry about weapons. Universities look for more than grades; they want grades and something else the person excels in, and he has done that. He would put a university in the news.

I worked at NASA for 31 yrs. I was also able to get into Mensa with my SAT scores(took in 71) but I cheated(don't tell). I was on mind altering drugs at the time.
No Rice for me. Cougar High on the GI Bill.

Here's why he got rejected from UCLA.
The 25th percentile New SAT score is 1250, and the 75th percentile SAT score is 1500.
In other words, a 1250 places you below average, while a 1500 will move you up to above average.

He scored 1270 on the SAT. Schools are probably seeing his GPA and SAT score doesn't jibe. When you have a GPA above 4.0, you're taking advanced courses. He's either getting some padded grades or he's not really retaining knowledge of what he learns. Seems like the kid is pretty consistent - at being a fraud.

I had a 15 on the ACT. 940 on the SAQT. Solid 1.9 GPA. 888high58888 I was going places.
My HS counselor said The Army might be an option. I told him I wanted to fly. He said he wanted to marry a super model. Some dreams are not meant to be.

I agree. He and a lot of other kids need some real parenting -- the way most of us were brought up. I know my parents would never have tolerated behavior like Hogg's. They sure as hell would not allow me to roam the countryside spreading nonsense instead of hitting the books.
I had to show my homework every night to either mom or dad. I was expected to do it. No Tv. I toOk extra curricular courses so I could get into college and mom or dad checked those too. If my grades weren't honor roll from 6th grade throughout college I was in trouble. And I put myself through college and graduate school without any monitory help from my folks.

That might explain all the attention-seeking: because he sees no hope getting into the job market (and I can relate to that), he's currying fame with progressives and leftists in an effort to make himself famous and secure more lucrative work reserved for the well-known and well-connected.

Some people have test anxiety, but it's more likely his GPA is not an accurate measure of his real intellect. He's very unimpressive, when he's not allowed to fully rehearse what he supposed to say.

I went to your link, and from the article I drilled down to the Reddit account to look at some of the entries. After reading some of it, I'm surprised he wasn't the kid shooting up the school.
