San Francisco (CNN Business)Come Friday, many low-wage workers across the US are getting a pay bump.

Twenty states are raising their minimum wage rates — some by pennies, others by a dollar or more — as part of previously-scheduled efforts to adjust for cost-of-living gains or to ratchet up toward goals like $15-an-hour minimum pay.

In New Mexico, the minimum wage will increase to $10.50, up $1.50 from the current $9 wage. And in California, the rate for employers with 26 workers or more will rise from $13 to $14 an hour, the highest state-wide baseline in the country. In Minnesota, the gain is just 8 cents, to a $10.08 hourly rate for large employers.

On top of that expect unemployment to rise and small businesses to disappear and while this is occurring the socialists will scream about greedy capitalist business owners taking advantage of their workers. While my wife and I rarely ate out previous years due to finances it will be an exceptionally cold day in hell before we do again, it is cheaper and almost better to make our own meals. I am willing to bet that despite it all I will continue to see the poor downtrodden Hispanics I am supposed to fell sorry for eating out in droves while they and their children play on expensive iPhones and iPads, no doubt courtesy of us taxpayers.

Good Lord, states that are forcing employers to pay $14 or close to it for unskilled labor and of course none of them care about the consequences of their action. All the wages that will have to be increased because of a whopping $1 increase in California and the corresponding increase in prices across the board(the little elves must have been really busy with all those mark ups). But hey Social Security recipients got a whopping 1.3 percent increase and all that is left after the increase in insurance will leave me a whole $26 to deal with my coming rent increase along with everything else that is going up. And I am sure that Noisome and his socialist bros and hoes will find a way to rip even more dollars out of the pockets of taxpayers so they can gift it to the friggin illegals.

Have a little faith.

Soon to be announced by the demo-communists in Congress:
The "National Tennant Protection and Rent Control Act".

It will set the rates of apartment rentals for all 50 states, and prevent evictions as well...   ;)

While I get no joy out of rent increases I do understand that the property owner has rising costs, here in CA they raise property taxes 2% a year unless it's a new sale than they wack ya big. Also Water and sewer are included in my lease so I get that the owners rates will rise with that. I don't believe the government should be setting rents, if it wants to do that it can build more public housing and put up with the destruction by tenants who aren't invested in any way to take care of their units.

It's really insane how much support the $15 proposal has.  Basically all it does is reduce the standard of living for anyone who makes more than ~$13 per hour.  The lower middle class is harmed the most.

Just wait until all those, at least most of them, who got their minimum wage increase see what their new tax level is along with how much their food bill increases. I remember well the discussions I had with employees after their first payday with a big minimum increase.

Already has to some extent.
