“Since such [scientific] arguments are based upon the laws and theories of positive science, the arguments themselves can never achieve greater certitude than that of these laws and theories.  And . . . the scientists dispute among themselves as to the relative truth or value of their laws and theories.”

â€œSince the laws and theories of positive science are based upon sensible phenomena as in some way physically observable and measurable, they can never be used to transcend the phenomenal order. But God, as a term to be demonstrated, entirely transcends the phenomenal order. Thus any proof that is strictly and merely from positive science can never demonstrate His existence.”  - Maurice Holloway, Introduction to Natural Theology

Many think that science is the only domain that provides knowledge. This view is called ‘scientism’. Notice that the claim that “only science conveys knowledge” is a philosophical claim, not a claim demonstrated by natural science.

Chocolate proves the existence of God. With science.

Cocoa butter naturally melts at the temperature in your mouth, ~37 °C, and this gives it a very unique property.

Got that new grandbaby. She is healthy. As much as anyone could want for the holidays. And you too, have a blessed holiday season. She is a good baby, except for when @roamer_1 slips her one of his pickled eggs...

Cocoa butter is not chocolate, Gefn.
Nor does the melting point of cocoa butter "prove the existence of God," as your friend presumably attempts to mock Him.
Finally, your friend clearly doesn't even realize that unique is not qualifiable.  Things aren't "more or less" unique."  It is an absolute.  Either something is or is not unique.  He is so wrong, in so many ways.  That's what got him on my Ignore List.

Have you ever heard or read of Enoch? So full of knowledge. He never died. Taken by God. Translated. It is with such sadness I see another who has such insight, wisdom, and knowledge. Who missed the translation.

Merry Christmas, @DeerSlayer

I’m just grateful for this place and all who are in it. That is all I want for Christmas.

And for this cold which has travelled into my ear to go away. I feel icky.

In case no one has mentioned the obvious,it is the JOB of intellectuals to ask questions no one else asks. Even damn-fool questions.

Maybe even ESPECIALLY damn-fool questions.

After all,we learn nothing from the things that everyone else already knows.
