@Kamaji Looks just like a female I caught today that had been abandoned behind a local shopping center a couple of weeks ago. Took her to the vet this afternoon and had her spayed and given all the necessary shots, and then took her home and let her out in my workshop. Someone told me later today that they knew someone who might be interested in taking her.
I used to do this without question, but after seeing one of the rescue cats I took to the vet laying ran over in the highway VERY close to that person's house,I have now decided to either let them lose where I caught them after they heal so they can rejoin the clan of cats they know,or get at least 200 bucks back out of the 280 bucks I had to spend on her today.
It isn't even about the money. It's about making the new owner protect their "investment" by keeping the "new" cat inside. The truth of the matter is that in the long run,it is cheaper to provide a litter box and kitty litter than it is to keep making vet visits to get any fighting or accident damage treated. It's just too easy for them to be "casual" about it if they have no money invested in the animal.
I see finding a new home for them as being cheaper in the long run than feeding a whole horde of them every day,so the money I spend is no big deal.
The truth of the matter is I feed them because it gives me an excuse to get dressed and get out of the house every day. Hell,I probably benefit from this more than the cats do.
