@Kamaji

Squirrels LOVE to tease predators.

My mean-ass female cat that ALLOWED a full-grown doberman to follow her into the house one day was so fierce she had the neighbors German Shepherd afraid of her to the point that he was so desperate to escape from her one day while we were still living in Denver,that he missed the open hole in the neighbors house,and knocked himself out trying to run from her,was terrorized by a freaking squirrel that lived in a tree on the border of our yard. She made the mistake of chasing the squirrel up a tree one day,and then following it out on a branch so thin it wouldn't support her weight,so she jumped up on the neighbors roof. During a blizzard in Denver.

I got home from school around 11 or so that night,and there were at least a half-dozen neighbors trying to figure out a way to get her off the roof outwith having to grab her.  By this time they all knew her,and NOBODY wanted to grab her.

When I got home I gave them permission to use a water hose to blast her off the roof,and that did the trick.

After that,you could not GET her to even glance at that squirrel. Not even when he would come down out of the tree and run around in circles in the leafs at the base of it to get her attention. She would hear the leaves,start to turn her head,and then remember it was that damn squirrel setting a trap for her again,and snap back around to stare at me laughing at her. She would attack a full-grown German Shepherd,but run from a squirrel.

Which meant she was super smart for a cat. Hell,for most humans. We ALL need to know our limitations,and not write checks with our asses that we can't cover.

I still had a lot of fun "messing" with her about it,though.

"That damn cat" just followed me into the house one day before I could close the door,and moved in. We were probably living together for 6 months before I could even try to pick her up without getting snarled at.

When I moved back home from Denver,my father,who never did like cats,was scared to death of her because she always snarled and did one of those sideways "tippy nails" dances if he got close to her.

Then one night,after she had been living in his house for maybe a year,she jumped up in his lap,turned a couple of circles,and laid down to take a nap. He turned as rigid as a stone and as white as a sheet,then told me "Boy,come get this damn cat" after he had tried to grab her a couple of times and gotten snarled at.

I laughed and made fun of him a little before I went over to pick her up and distract her,but the truth is I wasn't real sure I wasn't going to get bitten or scratched,but I got away with it.

His friends who were over visiting,seemed to enjoy this little drama immensely. Especially since I had warned them when they first came over to leave THAT cat the hell alone if they knew what was good for them.

Then,to make things even funnier,I came home early from work one day a couple of weeks later,and caught him cooking fish for her. No,I DID NOT give him TOO much offal over THAT one. I still laugh when I think about it.

He wouldn't admit he liked "that damn cat" until the morning he died. The last words he spoke as he lay dying were "Boy,you take good care of that damned cat!"

Miss the HELL out of that cranky old bitch. Not the father,the cat.
