CNBC reporter Steve Liesman erupted in full TDS mode over Trump's tariff's on Canada. Unfortunately for Liesman, just a little after his condemnation of those tariffs, they WORKED.

Wish there was a meme of that South West Airline ad, where the performers of the concert yell out "Hello Detroit", while in Cincinnati.

Politics is sometimes just like comedy.  Timing is everything.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

Our trading partners need access to America's markets more than America needs their goods and services.

This is why diversified supply chains are critical to national security.  Imported goods need to be multisourced across multiple nations so no single nation can have dominance or leverage in supplying the US with critical goods, like medicines.

I fully agree.  Except that we have been the world's whipping dog for decades around trade.  So like in this case, Tariffs and Trade wars, if used in a negotiative way may have some long term benefits.  They also are a high stakes game of chicken, and right now in most cases it is a Bull Dozer vs Mini-Cooper duel.

I have all my life been a unapologetic capitalist....  But in this case, I think and hope we give Trump a little leeway in working this out.   Ask me again in 6 months though, and I might give another answer if Trump screws this up.

America deserves to have the same access to our trading partners' market as we have given to them.

Good trade agreements are reciprocal and benefit all parties.

This issue with China is that they are not an open, capitalist economy.  They are a Communist regime exploiting capitalist greed to steal technology and intellectual property from the West.  We have been selling the Chinese Communist Party the rope with which they will hang us.

That's what gets lost in the tide is that these nations bleating about free trade and Smoot-Hawley seem to forget that it is they that started and maintained tariffs and other protectionist policies on our goods, and are now whining about reciprocity and equality while being happy to bleed us to death.
The Republic is lost.
