US Congressman Proposes Bill To Put Trump On New $250 Bill In Celebration Of America’s 250th Birthday, & The Internet Has Some Thoughts

Hailey Minn·CULTURE·March 1, 2025

I’ll take my next paycheck in 250s, please!

Congressman Joe Wilson from South Carolina is the guy best known for shouting “You lie!” at Barack Obama back in 2009, and now his name is back out there for another hilarious statement, this time in the form of proposing the $250 bill featuring the face of our fearless leader, Donald J. Trump.

If a $250 bill doesn’t seem familiar to you, that’s because it doesn’t exist. So not only would it be a brand new US Currency value, it would be featuring Trump’s mug that we all know and love. Well, maybe not all love… but enough people love to secure him a landslide victory over Kamala Harris in last the presidential election.

His reasoning for this idea was to commemorate America’s 250th birthday coming up in 2026, and I have to say, I think it is just a fabulous way to celebrate.

IIRC, there are no living presidents (or others, in the case of Franklin) on coins or currency.

One historical exception, with an obvious asterisk attached

I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

Well, He's not living now...

Arguably, not United States' Money.

But worth 4X face value or more...

Put Biden on it.  He's the only one who could make 500 dollars worth $250 again

I believe Trump is deserving -- as long as he mails us each a couple of new $250's.  Otherwise, likely I'll never have my hands on one.

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are. Hamilton was never president and he is on a ten dollar bill. I have a $2 bill and that has Jefferson on it.

Congress, how's that FY2025 Budget coming along?  We're only 5 months in.

Congress, you're lucky you don't have my teachers.  My teachers would never let me pass in a FY Budget 5 months overdue, and they would never accept a Continuing Resolution in lieu of a FY Budget.

Maybe we need to send Congress to Catholic parochial school to learn timeliness and responsibility ...

Fun fact:  There is no record of a living individual on a standard US bill or coin

However, there are a few examples of sanctioned mint commemorative coinage that have had  living people ,,, (1) the  one live at the time Apollo Astronaut (Aldrin), and (2) a few of the remaining living Tuskegee Airmen

What if GOP Congress declared Trump a living god?

Then, they'd have to put Trump's engraven image upon currency and coinage.  Because, 'In God We Trust' is already written on all of them.

No, but I'd kinda like to see Pete Buttigieg's picture on a $3 bill.

Although I'd be afraid to have one in my pocket.

Not true.

Abraham Lincoln was on currency during the Civil War.  So was Salmon P. Chase.  It was when Spencer Clark, who ran the Bureau of Printing & Engraving,  put his mug on a 5 cent note that Congress passed a law that no living person could appear on US currency.
