MSNBC Chief Plans Evening Shake-Up, Replacing Joy Reid, Alex Wagner
 
MSNBC's evening line-up may soon look quite different from what die-hard viewers have come to expect.

The NBCUniversal-backed cable network is expected to move the trio of Symone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Melendez and Michael Steele to its 7 p.m. weekday slot Tuesday through Friday, according to two people familiar with the matter, and the group on Mondays will lead two hours, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The move will have direct implications for Joy Reid, the anchor who currently fills 7 p.m. She is expected to host her last show on MSNBC this week.
 
What's more, Alex Wagner, who has hosted weeknights at 9 p.m. save for a Monday night led by Rachel Maddow, is expected to be named a contributor, according to three people with knowledge of current talks. Wagner, who has been working as a correspondent across the U.S. during the first 100 days of the new Trump presidency while Rachel Maddow anchors each day at 9, is unlikely to return to her weeknight slot, these people indicated. Jen Psaki is expected to take over at least one of the hours, according to one of these people. MSNBC is also in talks with Eugene Daniels of Politico and Melissa Murray, a law professor at New York University who specializes in the regulation of sex, marriage, caregiving and reproductive rights that would have them join the network in unspecified capacities, according to one of these people.

You thought MSNBC was totally in the tank for Dem leadership, but you didn’t realize they could get even MORE in the tank.

They just canceled Joy Reid, a reliable Dem supporter but who was willing to criticize Israel and sometimes the party. She’s being replaced by a Biden spokesperson, Michael Steele (former RNC chair), and Alicia Menendez (daughter of Sen. Bob Menendez and brother of Rep Menendez, but that’s not her fault).

Alex Wagner, also willing to criticize Israel and Dems sometimes, is being replaced by…Jen Psaki.

Amazing.

MSNBC Holds 'Tense' Joy Reid Staff Meeting After Firing Leaks: 'Pointed Questions, Raw Emotions'
 
Joy Reid's firing from MSNBC leaked to the press before her staff was notified, forcing network chief Rebecca Kutler to call an impromptu meeting filled with "pointed questions" and "raw emotions," media journalist Oliver Darcy reported Sunday.

According to Darcy's Status newsletter, staffers "expressed frustration and disbelief, outraged that they had learned of their show's fate from reports in the press rather than from leadership. Others demanded answers about the reasoning behind the cancellation of 'The ReidOut' and what it meant for their futures at the network."
 
They got their answer: "The meeting, which lasted nearly 30 minutes, featured pointed questions, raw emotions, and a discussion of the changes ahead" -- including the revelation that the entire staff would be laid off, Darcy writes. Kutler said she hoped the staff would produce the 7 p.m. rotation until the changes take effect in April.

Status also reported that Kutler held a similar meeting with Alex Wagner's show staff, which also "quickly grew tense and emotional," according to audio of the meeting Darcy obtained. Kutler told both meetings that more than 100 new roles at MSNBC will be posted this week and that impacted staffers are encouraged to apply for them, Status reported.

Yep. And I'd bet the JCS bunch are just a part of the problem...
If the agency money can be followed to their doorstep, get as much as possible back. We have been wondering how these networks have kept going, given their lack of viewership. It would take more than Pharma ads (and there are a lot of those), and that might even be the route for the laundry truck...
