CNN's Kaitlan Collins boosts Luigi Mangione's legal defense fund—deletes post after backlash

CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins boosted the legal fund page for Luigi Mangion, the alleged assassin of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. After backlash ensued online, the news anchor promptly deleted the post from X.

Kaitlan Collins, the White House correspondent for CNN as well as anchor for the outlet, promoted the legal defense fund for Mangione, who has been accused of assassinating Thompson. Collins posted a link to the fund on X, writing, "Luigi Mangione's legal defense team has launched a new website today."

The post was deleted shortly after backlash ensued in reaction to her boosting the legal fund. ...

Collins is an embarrassment to the entire State of Alabama.  The journalism school in Tuscaloosa should be shut down because of her.

This is not true. I posted that his attorneys created a website, which is newsworthy and other outlets have also reported on. In no way did I share a fundraising link for him.

So you a) you didn’t do basic journalistic due diligence and check the link, b) didn’t disclose the link led to a fundraiser, c) deleted the post, and d) are lying about all of this.
